Towing and roof racking boats in the UK and abroad 

The aim of this section is to provide those members towing boats, or roofracking dinghies, masts or other boat equipment, a summary of the road vehicle law that affects them.

The RYA has produced for its members a booklet called Trailing and Roofracking The Rules and Regulations.

This booklet details the general vehicle law relating to trailer sailors and roof-rackers and covers such points as the general duty to make loads and projections safe, insurance, length, width, height and weight restrictions, trailer fittings, lighting, and using a boat trailer on the road. At the back of the booklet is a summary of the trailer regulations applying in European countries, which has been supplied to the RYA by the Automobile Association.
