Charities

RNLI
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the charity that saves lives at sea. The RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews rescue an average of 23 people a day around the coasts and waterways of the UK and the Republic of Ireland. From 235 lifeboat stations, they are well trained and equipped to put to sea in the most fearsome conditions when the call comes. RNLI lifeguards patrol more than 200 beaches in the UK. As well as rescuing people from the water, they are also on hand for first aid and safety advice, making sure everyone can make the most of their day at the beach. Are you passionate about the water? Do you want to be part of a lifesaving team? Whatever the reason for your interest in our work, we’d love to have you onboard. The RNLI is an independent charity and receives no government funding. We rely on public support.
The Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a national organisation that gives young people between the ages of 8-18 who have suffered from cancer and leukaemia the opportunity to take part in the new and fantastic experience of sailing. The majority of our young people are off treatment and in recovery from cancer and leukaemia. These young people are recruited by our contact (usually a nurse or social worker) at the hospital or group we work with, as they are more involved with the young people at the hospitals and so aware of who would benefit the most from the trip. The young people can continue to sail with the Trust up until their 18th birthday or remission date. Often the young people that sail with us have spent long periods of time in hospital and can be suffering from low self-esteem on top of missing out on large chunks of their childhood. Studies into the psychological effects of cancer in children highlight how important positive personal relationships with others are in facilitating coping with cancer. They also state how difficult it is for the children (especially teens) to establish independence and a sense of control over their lives and maintain a sense of personal worth. The emphasis of our trips is on teamwork and fun, with sailing as the perfect catalyst. Sailing offers a new experience in a small and intimate environment, which gives the young people the space to assert themselves without the chance of getting lost in the group. These independent studies into the psychological effects of cancer in children and the values of sail training for young people highlight the long term positive impact the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust trips can have on the challenges that children with cancer and leukaemia face. “Jay returned full of confidence, chat, and knowledge of sailing. Jay had ‘life’ back in his eyes. He enjoyed the whole experience"
RYA Foundation
The RYA Foundation has been formed with the objective of “the promotion of participation in boating by those who are disadvantaged by reason of youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances”.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

I have planed my toughest challenge to date and I cant wait to start! I am going to be doing lots of training over the next few months, walking practice and sailing. I sail my boat by  mouth as i have cerebral palsy  and I walk using a very specail walker . please look at my website www.missisle.com .

Sea And Summit Challenge

On the 24th July I will set off in my specailly adapted boat from Cowes, IOW and sail around the southwest coast of England, around Lands end and along the rugged north Devon/Cornwall coast, across the sea to Wales. Once in Wales I will swap my special boat for my special walker and head to the Brecon Beacons. Once there I am going to climb the highest mountain in the area! Pen y fan.

The journey will involve 430 miles of sailing and climbing almost 3000ft, stopping in 11 places along the way and it  will probably take approx 3-4 weeks depending on weather.

I am raisning money for 3 fantastic charities along the way, which all mean at lot to me, so I really hope you can follow my progress and sponsor me please.

The charities I am raising money for are ;

The RNLI, to help keep us all safe at sea, a vital service! as Cowes RNLI saved a friend of mine  a couple of years ago.

The Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust who help young people who have been very ill with cancer, to enjoy life again, inspiring them and changing lives through sailing,just as sailing has for me.

The RYA Foundation to help other disabled sailors get out on the water and sail.

I will be visiting RNLI stations and RYA Sailability centres along my journey to find out whats happening, update people and hopefully raise awareness and support!

So  PLEASE SPONSOR ME,   Thank you Tasha x
