The main competition rule changes for the 2014 season are:
- Point system divided by 4 so that 1 point = 1 second, meaning it is easier to see handicap start time
- Relay consists of 2 athletes same gender instead of 3, increased number of teams to 24 for Relay World Championships, allows participation by more nations
- Clearer rules for tie breaks
- Elimination for false start in swimming
- Penalty for knock down in ride reduced
- Biathle Rules updated following some years of practice Introduction of Triathle Rules Masters Rules brought into line with UIPM Competition Rules
- Masters to start combined event from 2015
