Kids & Youths learn to sail on the Sea from Brighton Marina

Youths age 12+ can learn to sail on the sea from our coastal RYA training centre at Brighton Marina. Kids under 12 should attend our kids learn to sail courses at Hove Lagoon

RYA kids sea sailing ourses are :

• Run by highly experienced and friendly RYA instructors
• All specialised equipment is provided
• Sailing take place in Laser Stratus sailing boats
• Group sizes are kept to a minimum 
• Brighton Marina is a perfect gateway to the sea

We recommend kids start sailing with the Kids RYA Coastal Dinghy stage 1 & 2 course (See tab above for dates, times, prices). For young sailors that have gianed the Stage 2, certificate can move on to more advanced Stage 3 and stage 4 courses, and evne the RYA race training. (See tab above for dates, times, prices)

Kids Coastal Dinghy Sailing Stage 1 & 2

RYA Youth Sailing Stage 1 & 2
We run a youth RYA level 1&2 Dinghy Course on the sea in our Laser Stratus’ from Brighton Marina for older children over 12. On this course children will learn rigging, tacking, gybing and sailing across, down and up wind as crew and as a helm.

 Course Content:

• Basic sailing practicing steering and handling the boat
• Learning parts of the boat
• Ropework
• Collision avoidance and turning

Youth Sailing at Lagoon Watersports

• Run by highly experienced and friendly RYA instructors
• All specialised equipment is provided
• Group sizes are kept to a minimum 
• Brighton Marina is a perfect gateway to the sea

Course objective: At the end of the course you will understand how to sail a boat and be able to tack and control the boat at some speed out at sea.

Prerequisites: None

Suitability: Age 12+

Kids Coastal Dinghy Sailing Stage 3

RYA  Youth Sailing Stage 3

The RYA Yourth Sailing Stage 3 course will get you sailing faster and more efficiently.

Course Content Includes:

• Rigging
• Launching and recovery
• Sailing techniques
• Capsize recovery
• Sailing theory

RYA Youth Sailing Stage 3 at Lagoon Watersports

• Run by highly experienced and friendly RYA instructors
• All specialised equipment is provided, including wetsuits
• Suitable for those with RYA Youth Sailing Stage 2 or similar experience
• This course is run from our coastal centre at Brighton Marina.

Course Objective: At the end of this course you will be able to competently launch and sail a dinghy round a triangle in suitable conditions.

Prerequisites: RYA Youth Sailing Level 2 and some sailing in between courses

Suitability: Age 8+

What to bring: All you need to bring is swimwear, towel and shoes suitable to wear in the water. We sell neoprene shoes in the office. Wetsuit, buoyancy aid and equipment hire is included.

Kids Coastal Dinghy Sailing Stage 4

RYA Youth Sailing Stage 4

The RYA Youth Sailing Stage 4 course will improve your sailing skills further so that you will not only be able to crew or helm a single or double handed boat.

Course Content Includes:

• Rigging, launching and recovery
• Sailing techniques and manoeuvres in crewed boats
• Recovering a man overboard

RYA Youth Sailing Stage 4 at Lagoon Watersports:

• Run by highly experienced and friendly RYA instructors
• All specialised equipment is provided, including wetsuits
• Suitable for those with RYA Youth Sailing Stage 3 or similar experience
• This course is run from our coastal centre at Brighton Marina.

Course Objectives: At the end of the course you will be able to competently launch and sail a dinghy round a triangle in suitable conditions to the level where we would allow children members to hire on the sea.


PLEASE NOTE: If the instructor decides that the client has not met the standards of RYA Dinghy Stage 4 they will not be signed off. We can then arrange for some extra tuition after the course.

Kids RYA Start Racing

All the skills required to start racing, including how to maximise boat speed and outwit your opponents. We highly recommend this course to keep your children's interest in sailing with racing being the best way to improve all those skills already leant on the Stage 3 and 4 courses. Our racing coach instructors are experienced in racing and will enthuse and pass on all those great skills

Kids Coastal Sailing Club

 Kids Coastal Sunday Sailing Skills

We are offering those kids who have completed their Stage 2, 3 or 4 (or have equivalent experience) the opportunity to sail out on the sea from Brighton Marina and practice their skills.  The sessions are instructor lead and will include coaching and some racing pointers, to really home in on those skills and get the most out of the boats!

Session Format:

• Meeting at Brighton Marina at 15:45 on a Sunday afternoon
• Sailing out on the sea from Brighton Marina, finishing at 18:00
• Sessions are instructor led
• Sessions will include coaching
• Sessions will cover some racing pointers

 Youth Sailing from Brighton Marina

• Run by highly experienced and friendly RYA instructors
• All specialised equipment is provided
• Sailing is in our Laser Statos dinghies – these boats have a keel so do not capsize.  Therefore no need to wear a wetsuit.
• Suitable for Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4 sailors, or those with similar experience
• Perfect for young sailors looking to progress from Hove Lagoon - challenging and exciting, yet always with instructor close by in safety boat.

Course Objective:  Meet and sail with kids their own age.  Make friends and continue to learn in a fun and super friendly environment.

Prerequisites: Stage 2, 3 or 4

Suitability: Age 10+

What to bring: All you will need to bring is warm clothes, sun-cream, hat, snacks, a towel and some shoes to wear out on the water. Buoyancy aid and equipment hire is included.
