RYA Day Skipper yacht sailing training course from Brighton and Solent

The RYA Day Skipper qualification confirms that the successful candidate has the knowledge needed to skipper a yacht on shorter, coastal cruises during daylight. At the end of this course you will be licensed to skipper your own boat and charter a boat both in the UK or abroad. Before taking the Day Skipper practical course you should make sure you have completed Day Skipper Theory & Competent Crew courses or have equivalent experience. Day Skipper - 5 Continuous Days

On the RYA Day Skipper practical course you will gain further experience through planning and completing passages, including a night sail. You will also gain your ICC (International Certificate of Competence). You will also practice lots of close quarter handling skills and mooring in a range of marinas - offering more interesting ways to tie up for the night!

Day Skipper Weekend Course - Part 1

On this RYA Day Skipper practical course you will gain further experience through planning and completing passages, including a night sail. You will also gain your ICC (International Certificate of Competence). The course also involves lots of close quarter handling skills and mooring in a range of marinas.

During the first weekend,  you will be sailing out of Brighton and returning to Brighton. Part 2, the second weekend (Friday night till Monday afternoon), will be spent in the Solent from Gosport where you will spend three nights aboard the yacht. 


The Part 1 RYA Day Skipper Course Includes:

Day Skipper Weekend Course - Part 2

Part 2 of the practical Day Skipper course, the second weekend (Friday night till Monday afternoon), will be spent in the Solent from Gosport where you will spend three nights aboard the yacht. 

The Part 2 RYA Day Skipper Course Includes:

  • Taking and plotting visual fixes
  • Use of GPS Use of waypoints
  • Working up DR and EP
  • Estimating tidal heights and streams
  • Course to Steer Anchoring,
  • Mooring alongside and picking up a mooring under sail
  • Buoyage

Day Skipper Theory and Practical Combined

The Day Skipper Yacht Training Package Combined includes RYA Day Skipper Theory and RYA Day Skipper Practical. This a consecutive 9 day course. The first 2 days will involve Day Skipper Theory, the next 5 days will involve Day Skipper Practical and the final 2 days will involve Day Skipper Theory.

The Day Skipper Theory course is a comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers and is an essential preparation for our RYA Day Skipper Practical course.
