Javno podijeljeno -After spending 6 days creating 62 albums with 1,883 images and then having to move them all over to Maxgalleria (thank goodness for the import tool), this is how I feel:

Javno podijeljeno -I'm thinking of spending $80 to transfer my mediawiki at http://www.knitting-and.com/wiki to a wordpress installation that is themed to match the rest of my site.
My reasoning is that
a: it's not a wiki any more. I'm the only editor since spam became such a huge problem I had to shut out anyone else.
b: It's not connected to the rest of the site. I could learn how to make a mediawiki skin but I've already made a wordpress theme so I wouldn't have to double up.
c: I could let trusted editors in if anyone shows interest in working on anything, adding photos, corrections etc.
This site is 18 years old and trying to keep updating and switching software that becomes redundant is too time consuming.
Are there any good reasons not to do it? It just isn't functioning the way I want as it is.
Edited to add: I was thinking of using CMS2CMS to move my wiki to wordpress but the test did not go well at all. All of the images were broken, it created posts but I wanted pages (no option to choose pages was presented), viewing posts returned 404 errors and when I went looking for reviews I found that they habitually created fake accounts to give themselves good reviews and generally spammed people everywhere. It looks like I'll be moving the articles by hand.

Javno podijeljeno -Sometimes when you're convinced there's something wrong with the way your webhost set up your new server (and they deny it), it's a good idea to keep asking questions.
About 2 years ago my web host moved my site to a new server, which they set up incorrectly. This caused tens of thousands of faux 404 errors caused by search engines being able to read files as directories and attempting to follow the links. It also caused massive headaches with all sorts of other things, including overloading the server with masses of search engine requests, not allowing me to write to new directories and other things.
My web hosts solution was for me to change all my links to point to the domain, instead of being relative (yes, I can hear all you site developers out there going ???).
Someone finally found and fixed the error and the 404's have been dropping by about 1,000 every day. Almost none have registered after the server set up was fixed. Another week and I'll finally be able to find out what my real 404 errors are. And spend 20 hours changing my links back to relative links so I can style my site properly and stop local links printing...

Javno podijeljeno -Wordpress users, don't make the same mistake I did and try to use NextGen Gallery! Even with a fresh install I couldn't get anything to show properly. The css is totally messed up, I couldn't make thumbnails half the time and the system resources required to remake thumbnails is ridiculous.
I was unfortunate enough to be reading old reviews of versions 1.9x when I was choosing a gallery plugin. Version 2.x is just too damn faulty.
I'm currently importing the 63 galleries I set up into maxgalleria. So far so good, only 1 album is failing on import, and it's a small one so I can replace the images manually. Thumbnails look good straight off the bat and the design looks pretty good, even for the free version.

Javno podijeljeno -Penguin FAQ update. I just received an email from an employee at Phillip Island with corrections. It seems that the rule of three - four sources for your information isn't enough when it comes to the internet, even if they do come from bird and wildlife experts!
