Hannah Mills came through the ranks as one of Britain’s most promising juniors and is still the only Brit to have won the Optimist Girls’ World Championship in 2003, having been the first girl to win the British national title a year earlier. The same year Hannah was voted UK Young Sailor of the Year and BBC Wales Young Sports Personality of the Year.

The Cardiff-raised helm won 470 Junior (Under 22) World and European crowns with Katrina Hughes before in February 2011, following a period of trialling different partners for both, Mills teamed up with Beijing 2008 470 representative Saskia Clark. Their success was almost instant as they won silver at the 2011 Hyeres World Cup event, only their second regatta together, before achieving the same outcome at the 2011 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta in June. In August of 2011, just six months after pairing up, they won Olympic Test Event silver at the London 2012 venue in Weymouth and Portland.

Mills and Clark then went onto win a silver medal at the 2011 Perth World Championships before claiming their first 470 World title together in Barcelona in June 2012.
