I want your thoughts about Amélie, also known as Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain

Well, where should I start… First let me just say, I have never seen a movie like this, it truly is something original and that is something new for me after all the movies I have seen. It is a beautiful masterpiece, with most astonishing camera work, most beautiful music ( I will come to that later ), intriguing dialog, and very professional acting. The atmosphere in the movie that is brought by camera movement is beautiful, and the actors bring a lot to the atmosphere also, because I think that the cast is just perfect. I cannot imagine someone else playing the role of Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz), Raymond (Serge Merlin) and all the small parts like Mr. Collignon (Michel Robin) and others and of course, the role of Amelie (Audrey Tautou)… she is just perfect for the role. The way she portrays the life of Amelie, her feelings, her view of the world is just so on point that I really doubt that anyone else would be able to do that in the way she did. Yann Tiersen… best choice in the entire movie. All the emotions that he puts us through and all the details in his pieces are just breath taking, and even more breath taking is the fact that he composed nineteen, yes nineteen pieces in two weeks, and that all of them are masterpieces. Don’t get me wrong Michael Nyman is a great composer too with a lot of great songs ( Jack, Nadia, Franklyn,…..) but I do not think that he would be able to paint a picture as well as Yann did. One song truly stuck with me and I spent 15 minutes searching for it (comptine d'un autre). And the mix of accordion, piano, even bicycle wheels is perfect in all of the songs. Now to the story of the film. In few parts, I can really see why you said that you see yourself in her, from what I know you and from what you told me you are like. Her view of the world is something not many people understand I think and the way she feels around other people is so well written and portrayed. My favourite scene in the whole movie is when she finally gives the man his box back and a whole new world opens for her... When she sees the look on his face when he remembers his childhood. And after that when she helps the blind man, and describes the world to him, his look when he imagines it.. ohh… usually when writing reviews I don’t really impose my own emotions but this film just brings them out. One of the best thing that could happen for this movie is that it is in French language. I cannot imagine the story being presented to me in English or any other language. Don’t get me wrong I don’t speak a word French but still the mood that it sets is special.

So for conclusion, I think that this movie is a masterpiece and  I am very grateful that someone pointed me in its direction, because I don’t think I will ever forget it. And this is only the first time I watched it, I can’t wait for next times I watch it because I just know that I probably missed a thing or two and cant wait to get all of the little details. I LOVED IT.

Where to watch? Amélie (2001)

Ever since discovering Jean-Pierre Jeunet with “The City of Lost Children”, “Delicatessen”, and even “Mimacs” I’ve been hooked! Because of this sub I have read that Amélie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet is also an amazing flick and is worth the watch. Unfortunately, on all of my streaming services (paid and unpaid) I’ve been unable to find this movie available in the U.S. to watch. I have Prime, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Starz, Peacock, and XFinity. I know this is technically a French film, but I’m surprised with how highly it’s rated that it’s been such a trouble to find. Does anyone know where I can find this movie? Do I need a European VPN to be able to watch it somewhere? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Also I’m curious to everyone’s thoughts about this movie and also Jeunet’s movies as a whole.

Thanks in advance!

This is my favorite movie of all time, and I want to hear what other people who’ve seen it think of it. And get people who haven’t to watch it immediately. (It’s on Netflix!) Audrey Tautou might be the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen (in a weird way, but she couldn’t have been otherwise for the role, and to think she almost was passed over for Emily Watson), and the movie captures such wonder and childlikeness and joy, not to mention the magical sound track and sound in general (Jeunet used ASMR almost 20 years before YouTube caught on). Thoughts?
