Alperen Sengun could break the single season offensive rebound record

Last season FVV and Dillon Brooks combined to miss a total of 1,275 shots. Both of them will have even more of a green light on the Rockets this year, so I expect thins number to go up significantly.

Even if Sengun grabs less than half of their previous missed shots, he still comfortably beats the all time record set by Moses Malone of 587 offensive rebounds in a single season.

Small sample size but so far Sengun has been the best player on the Rockets who are 5-3. He is anchoring a top 10 defense and is the engine of a top 10 offense. He has 19 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists to only 2.0 turnovers and has 63.7% TS. Additionally, his advanced stats have been off the rails including WS/48 of .252 and 7.2 BPM which are both top 10 in the NBA. His on/off +/-numbers are insane as well on offense and defense.

Nikola Jokic has always been a beast statistically on both sides of the ball even before his MVP seasons and Sengun has matched it so far. Compare Nikola Jokics stats at 24 years old to a 21 year old Sengun's stats and they are pretty neck and neck. Jokic has better FT%, 3%, rebounding but Sengun has better TS%, and assist/TO ratio.

Jokic will likely be a top 15 nba player when it is all said or done and the chances of Sengun being that just aren't likely. Jokic was pretty stagnant for 4 years before he suddenly took a leap his MVP season and there is no guarantee that Sengun will hit that leap either. There is no guarantee that Sengun keeps playing as good as he has either for the whole year but even if he doesn't he should still get credit for the fact that he played so good so far.

Sengun doesn't have the height of Jokic but Sengun is much more athletic. I have never seen Jokic nearly his head on the backboard while doing a chase down block 2 feet out of the restricted area. Sengun had 77 dunks last year, Jokic had 21. Sengun had 70 blocks last year, Jokic had 47. There is no numbers that prove one player is more athletic than another but these numbers suggest Sengun is the more explosive athlete.

I was conflicted as whether or not I should talk about Sabonis in this thread but I will, I think preMVP Jokic is better than Sabonis. There should be a new meme were preMVP Jokic is Charizard and MVP Jokic is mega Charizard while both Sengun are Sabonis are Charmeleon instead of this

His 2ND CAREER #TRIPLE DOUBLE

This guy has just been on a tear. It’s insane that it took this long for the team to play through him. He’s only 20 and he played some great defense tonight

Let’s not overreact over last game, sengun is still the face of the franchise, but he’s only 21. He’s going to have bad games, and to be honest, I don’t blame him for missing the free throw. Sengun is the type of player who needs to get going, and once he gets going, he’s on a crazy hot streak. He sat on the bench for 15 mins, and he was clearly not in it to make those shots. This upcoming game is important for Sengun, if he can drop 30 and get the win, it improves his all star chances. He’s lucky his bad performance is overshadowed by karl anthony towns (kat) missing two game winners and luka dropping 70. I’ve seen tons of rocket fans though in the last thread mad at Sengun when jasean tate took a step back 3 with 20 seconds left on the shot clock earlier and multiple absent minded mistakes. I think we should appreciate that 15 and 11 with subpar defense is a bad game for Sengun, most other young stars bad games are usually below 10 point performances in a loss. Even jayson Tatum had a bad game vs the bucks where he had only 7.

Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr stats when Christian Wood doesn’t play.

Kevin Porter Jr: 25 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 6.7 APG on 61 TS% (10 games)

Jalen Green: 24.8 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 3.3 APG on 60 TS% (12 games)

Alperen Sengun: 13 PPG, 9 RPG, 3.5 APG on 55 TS% (12 games)

Christian Wood is a very talented basketball player but his style of play with the Rockets was actually holding the young guys back. Hopefully playing with Luka will set him straight.

Very surprised we traded him to Dallas of all places. His value must have been so low

Edit: At 20 years and 170 days old*

Alperen Sengun also becomes the Rockets youngest ever player to record a triple-double.

Alperen Sengun is the first Rockets Center since Hakeem Olajuwon (1997) to record a triple-double in game

Edit: Chuck Hayes was the last Rockets center to get a triple double back in 2011

Alperen Sengun tonight vs. Pacers: 30/16/5, 7 OREB, 4 STL in 37 minutes

Sengun followed a career-night vs. the Pelicans with another great game against the Pacers. His scoring, rebounding, and defensive hands played a major role in the game. He was the single-best Rocket tonight, with the other Rockets starters largely having bad games.

Despite being questionable after back pain, Sengun put up another great performance despite the loss against the Warriors. He was the Rockets’ leading scorer and only Steph had more in the whole game at 32. Also the game’s leading rebounder.

Sengun had also played through an ankle sprain early in another game, and returned the next game as well. Along with being the Rockets’ best player, he’s shown to have plenty of DAWG as well.

Edit: So far this season, this was his best scoring night. While being questionable due to back pain (probably from carrying the team). Some MJ flu game stuff right there.

“Me personally, I think they need to build around number 28 (Sengun), Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards told Rockets Wire after playing against Houston on Sunday. “Jalen (Green) and KPJ (Kevin Porter Jr.) are franchise players also, but that dude is something serious. We had to game plan for him.”

Three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert also acknowledged how much of a force Sengun is becoming in the league.

“He has been getting better and better,” said Gobert, a fellow European big man who watched Sengun play internationally before coming to the NBA. “I think he is very unique in the way that he plays. The way that he is finishing. Last year he was turning the ball over more, but this year he has gotten a lot better.”
