I liked Ally Sheedy better because she was so cute but smart. Ringwald always came off as shrill and whiny at times and that prom dress in Pretty in Pink was unforgivable.
Generation X was born, by broadest definition, between 1961 and 1981, the greatest anti-child cycle in modern history. Nevertheless, we grew up to become the world's most devoted parents: the "workhorse of America." I always idolized Ally Sheedy in the 80s, she was unique. She had a Girl Next Door vibe but so pretty and charismatic. Spunky without being too in your face and a natural beauty.
I also thought she was very talented and should have been the ONE to build a respectable career after the 80s when the Brat Pack fame decreased. Aside from HIGH ART, she never got another juicy part to bring her back to the limelight.
But I love everything she did in the 80s, including the flops like MAID TO ORDER which I found charming and cute and Sheedy showed she had the means to be a romcom queen if Hollywood really wanted to bet on her.
Molly Ringwald was more popular but I always felt Ally was better.
