Relocating to JC - Help

Can you recommend a chill park to take my toddler and my elderly parents? Can you recommend a chill park to take my toddler and my elderly parents?

First off I think your No Gentrification Posts rule is awesome and hope this doesn't come across as a gentrification post. I'm not trying to move to JC!

I live in Asheville and my folks are in Marion, VA. They're having a lot of trouble making the 2-hour drive to Asheville to visit me and my toddler.

My dad has Alzheimers pretty bad, and while my mom can drive safely she's starting to lose it too and big excursions have become really daunting to her. They keep cancelling at the last minute and haven't seen the kid since September! It breaks my heart. But my kid absolutely loathes long car rides, I'm too squeezed for time to do the round trip to Marion, and staying there overnight isn't really an option.

So I'm looking at my map and thinking I might try to meet up with my folks somewhere in Johnson City, since it's halfway to Marion, but I've never spent time there.

Hanging out in a park tends to be easy and fun for all of us. I'd be grateful if anyone has any park recommendations, especially somewhere with a playground, animals, water, and/or shade. Bonus points if I there's decent food nearby we can eat on a patio :)

Thanks for any pointers!!!
