Have we ever successfully locked it down on defence and saw the game through?

We can’t change our play off a 1 goal lead. We’re not that team.

[–]kf_stats 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I agree. We were playing the best when we focused on keeping possession

[–]Kyle6969 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We act like we have the Italian National back line 🙄

[–]EnzoScifoTownsend 36 points37 points  (2 children)

The last 10 mins I was wondering what the fuck we were doing.

PV has this team playing well going forward, but that retreat at the end was clearly an instruction and it backfired again.

[–]squedaZaha 23 points24 points  (1 child)

He subbed on Tomkins and went with a back 5. It was 100% on him imo

[–]OreganoJeffersonBolasie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing is, going to a back 5 isn't a terrible idea. I'm more upset with the sub. If you want to go to a back 5 I would argue that the way to do it at the time we did would've been to sub off Ward for Clyne and drop Kouyate to CB. That way you don't have to take edouard off so we still would have had a little more of a threat going forward. Edouard looked fairly comfortable on the left and iirc wasn't losing the ball or making terrible passes so I can't think of a reason to take him off unless PV thought he was getting tired. If that was the case then schlupp could've replaced Edouard and I still think we would have been better off defensively than we were.

Thats another game that’s going to leave a bad taste in my mouth. That’s why you can’t just throw more defenders on and let the other team attack you for 10 minutes straight, especially if you’re not leaving anybody up top to relieve pressure

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (2 children)

ATTACKING WAS WORKING THE WHOLE GAME WHY CHANGE STRATEGIES

[–]Abush9527Crystal Palace USA:Palace_US: 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I understand playing more defensive, but if you want to bring Tomkins on, bring off a defender. You have to have some threat going the other way or else they can just send 8 or 9 players forward and not worry about the counter.

But in general, yes, I would have preferred to continue attacking

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea I’m pissed and in a terrible mood. Will probably continue to be for a few days. But it’s already fading a little. We’re legit. I know Arsenal isn’t great but I have no thoughts of being in relegation territory towards the end of the year. We’ve found our guy in Vieira. He just needs to close out games. This stings but watching Arsenal celebrate grabbing a point from Palace at home is a slight comfort.

[–]BionicPopsicleEze 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Obviously brutal, but I was very pleased to see us be able to attack without Wilf. Edouard was great, also thought TM was good too

[–]el1iot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact we got this result without Zaha has to be a positive, regardless of the equaliser. The tactics for defending a lead and stopping us from going behind early on clearly need work, but those are minor things considering how early on it is for Viera. And yet all the other things he has tried seem to have worked first time.

Classic

Gunners celebrating like it’s a win and not saving a point at home against palace though. What has happened to that club.

[–]JoshyPolarBearGuaita 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We did a Brighton… we need to stop bottling these matches

[–]Quill_HYPE 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't park the bus against Brighton, give up a late goal.

Park the bus against Arsenal, give up a late goal.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (1 child)

I don't know how they manage to do this every other week but it's fucking incredible. So many dropped points this season. Something needs to change to finish games out. Getting one point every other week isn't going to be enough to keep us up this season.

That said, the bright spots are incredibly bright. I hope Vieira can figure it out because this team could be so good if they can just see a game out.

[–]el1iot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s early days, Viera has only had 8 games and most of those against the top sides in the league. Honestly, I was previously worried about the start of the season and we could’ve easily been 17th+ by this point. Yes, we should’ve had more points based on the performances, but there are so many positives and improvements to be had that I am even quite hopeful for a top 10 this season. It’s definitely too early to be worrying about not picking up points at this stage.

[–]Lego_105Guaita 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We brought on a 5th defender and sat back after playing so well in the pressure based game taking it forward. It’s the exact same shit that lost us so many games last season, and it lost us 2 points here. We cannot play like that. I pray Vieira doesn’t do that again.

Other than that we played an absolutely cracking game. Yet again. Without the deserved result. It’s really getting to me now.

[–]SayNothingTillYa 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Just wish we had the confidence to play our possession football through to the end of a game. We’re so much better being positive; sitting back on a one goal lead just isn’t something we’re good enough defensively to do

[–]electroplankton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember Brighton though?

[–]NevTheLad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm truly in awe about Kouyate coming on. He's shown he doesn't fit the viera system. If Schlup had come on we might have ended up with another goal. Olise = sauce

[–]CosmologyXParish 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Was hoping Mike Dean would have blown the whistle after the corner was cleared. Couldn't expect anything more than for him to make it his little Mike Dean show and let play continue. Regardless another annoying draw that we should have got a win from. Great performance, I'm not sure what we could have really done about Lacazette's goal

[–]FABBAWABBA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He was fucking wank then whole game and should have given a foul before the corner

Verge of greatness. All 8 of our games have come against top 12 teams and we've deserved more than 1 PPM. Now we need to start winning, especially in November

      [–]bigheyzeusCrystal Palace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its always the marathon of extra time that screws us. We can't just have 2 mins and a win eh? It's like the refs want to ensure the other team can tie it

      [–]iminsideabox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why can't we just close one out?! :(

      [–]lhance79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fuck sake that’s 6 points we’ve been robbed of already.

      [–]DustySalad9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The boys gotta learn how to close a game. Hopefully these dropped points won’t hurt us at the end of the season.... This team is refreshing to watch however compared to prior seasons. I feel like we could get a result against anyone.

      [–]ddottayCrystal Palace USA:Palace_US: 3 points4 points  (0 children)

      We deserved the whole 3

      [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man being a palace supporter is painful ;(

      [–]Willing_Difference63 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Arsenal were lucky to get a draw. I’m confident we’re showing the signs of a top-half side, just need to finish games and get a little more quality in the team. Disappointing to get a draw, but it speaks to how far we’ve come that we’re disappointed with a draw at the Emirates. We have a good team, Vieira has adapted well.

      [–]Glass-Pick-5843 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man Utd supporter here but loving what I'm seeing from Vieira. Thought it was a left field appointment based solely on his reputation as a player but he's already got you lot playing on the front foot. Completely dominated Arsenal and deserved all 3 points. My thoughts here in case any of you are interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSUISylTsSg Looking forward to catching more Palace games this season and can't wait to see the likes of Zaha and Eze fit and in the 11 again.

      [–]severi_erkko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

      Agony.

      [–]RealGrapefruit_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gallagher solid again. Industrious all over the pitch. Almost scored a worldie.

Olise did well in his limited time. Set up a goal really well.
Benteke disappointing at times but a goal is good confidence boosting

Eduoard held the ball up well. Scored a great finish. Looked a little hurt at the end of the game which is potentially scary.

Guaita made every save he has to make. Distribution could have been better. But did his job well. Unlucky to concede two.

Defenders kept them at bay. Andersen with some key tackles second half.

Tomkins on for an attacker was not the right sub. Will Hughes on would’ve been better. Dont know why he hasn’t gotten a chance. Or Schlupp on and have Ward move to more central defense. But a slow Tomkins was not the move.

Mitchel was a 7/10, He has had better performances but had a good 90.

Ward will need replacing next season. Great servant. But more pace and pressure is needed in RB. But can wait.

      [–]SurpriseBurritoGuaita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Goddammit. How?

      [–]lu13naCrystal Palace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know we have to trust the process (reference intended) but it doesn’t make this any less annoying. Sloppy goals against Brighton, Leicester and Arsenal have cost us 6 points. Promising, encouraging, potential, all those words explain us perfectly at the moment but we need to turn these into 3 points or we’ll be in trouble again come the end of the season.

      [–]shanannoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Clear your fucking lines

[–]etchgtownCrystal Palace USA 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Notice how good we were on the ball today at Arsenal without Zaha giving the ball away 10-15 times a match by dribbling straight at 3 opponents, creating one half-chance and finishing nothing but penalties.

      [–]JakeJeremy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There will be a time for this discussion, but for now we solemnly lament

      (LEAVE THE FUCKING PRINCE ALONE)

      [–]NevTheLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongbow may or may not have had an effect but I really want to cry hahaha. I'm so happy at how we played today and in previous matches but I'm just so sad at how we keep thrmowing away these arguably perfect games. I've got a smile on my face at the end of the day so

      [–]AdditionalCopy1248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rough result, but great to see the team being positive and playing well without Wilf for once.

Credit to Ayew setting up Benteke's goal, and nice to see Gallagher Olise and Edouard combining well for the second.
