agora hills is an INSTANT classic. i’m floored

[–]LakeBlithely 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I’m listening to it on repeat on my headphones while lying in bed and it is everything I’ve ever wanted.

[–]BlurrOfTheStars679 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Best one on the album!!!

[–]lazynbroke 292 points293 points  (8 children)

did she add two more songs to the album?

[–]praxass 187 points188 points  (6 children)

Yup. There's rumours of a deluxe coming out in the next few days too

[–]lazynbroke 75 points76 points  (1 child)

if there's a deluxe she better add that song she teased at coachella last year, it was good and i think it would fit this album sonically

[–]Commonjac 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That shots one? I hope so too!!

[–]AAAFMB 154 points155 points  (1 child)

Begging for a deluxe just so she can give the album a good cover

[–]yourfacesucksasshaha hehe haha ho 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Three spiders!

[–]artsychimichanga 23 points24 points  (1 child)

I thought maybe this was the deluxe? I see two versions on Apple Music. One with 15 tracks, the other with 17

[–]praxass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Possible

[–]fuoricontestofolklore 24 points25 points  (0 children)

yeah i was so confused lol i don't think the last one and shutcho were part of the tracklist? also the album i see on her profile has 15 not 17

[–]glamaz0n_bitch 125 points126 points  (1 child)

Her flow on “Go Off” reminds me so much of Lil Wayne! It’s such a basic song, but I’m obsessed.

[–]Far-Neck3117 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was thinking she sounds so similar to lil Wayne too! ◡̈

[–]ttydk 135 points136 points  (11 children)

ouchies sounds very missy elliot/nick minaj inspired

[–]jrsmusicman 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Def giving Missy / Foxy Brown vibes for me. "Fuck The Girls" feels like Doja's version of "She's a Bitch"

Agora Hills feels more Nicki to me.

[–]calebb2108my single “my single is dropping” is dropping 125 points126 points  (3 children)

“like fortnite imma need your skin” what 😭😭

[–]Jorge_Santos69 57 points58 points  (2 children)

She knows her audience lol

[–]blk222 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lol I thought the same thing. I'm a huge gamer myself, not much Fortnite but I love that she is always making game references

[–]gibbbehh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She streams on twitch sometimes too haha

[–]upsteph 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Wym freestyle is unironically top 5 on the album walk wit me..

[–]augggie 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Halfway through, im very very impressed. It’s digestible but also fresh and different. Way more cohesive than the singles had me thinking it’d be.

[–]zuluuaeb 92 points93 points  (6 children)

"Can't wait" is soooooo good. My favourite from the album easily.

Also enjoy how there is distinctly two halves to this album. And they have very different vibes.

[–]sfatz27 19 points20 points  (4 children)

Where would you say the split is in the halves? Not trying to be sassy but genuinely curious since I keep seeing it said on here.

I just hear a lot of different styles, but like Attention seems like it’d belong more towards the front. Just curious what your take on the track order is.

[–]zuluuaeb 32 points33 points  (2 children)

For me it was the shutcho >>> agora hills transition which was quite jarring and made me view the first and second parts between that transition as seperate. There could be some switching of the order I guess but I think agora hills definitely needs to be just before can't wait

[–]armin_vladimir 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Attention would've been a perfect album opener imo.

[–]happygoluckyourself 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Can’t Wait, too! I loved Angora Hills and then it came on and I was like “damn, it gets better!” Lol. I love Doja’s singing voice so I’m sure I’m biased but it’s great

[–]Nightstar14 311 points312 points  (0 children)

okay as much as she annoyed me during the promo for this album she can fucking rap and this album is crazy

[–]Nice-Difference8641 63 points64 points  (1 child)

Skull and bones is DIVINE holy shit

No one does it like her

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right! I’m not seeing enough love for skull and bones

[–]praxass 302 points303 points  (19 children)

Agora Hills is perfect

[–]gogodboss 73 points74 points  (0 children)

So perfect giving it a music video so it can shine even more

[–]blaertes 100 points101 points  (5 children)

I really love the weird gen z-pop feel to the vocals she does in the first half it’s fun

[–]praxass 102 points103 points  (1 child)

Valley girl voice. So funny

[–]-ynnoj- 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Valley Girl becoming “Gen Z vocals” makes me feel old and I’m not even old!!😭 I’m Gen Z!

[–]nocturne_gemini 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Gen z? Wtf lol?

[–]blaertes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was stoned. No idea your guess is as good as mine

[–]doublepoly123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s just a socal valley girl accent. It comes naturally to her cause she’s from there

[–]newtoreddir 51 points52 points  (5 children)

I wonder what the name means. Agoura Hills is a far flung suburb of Los Angeles, and I know Doja grew up in the Valley. It’s an exclusive area but a bit second tier to your Pacific Palisades and Hidden Hills. The agora was the public meeting and gathering place in Ancient Greece. So maybe a commentary on being in the public eye, part of the public conversation?

[–]BoomYouLooking 34 points35 points  (2 children)

She grew up on in an ashram ran by Alice Coltrane just off of Agoura Hills. I believe the spelling difference is because of that Ancient Greece connection you mentioned.

[–]kasperco77x 32 points33 points  (1 child)

that and probably a reference to agoraphobia too? being anxiety from the public. hence her statements during the rollout?

[–]BoomYouLooking 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m poetry night snapping at y’all’s interpretations bc yeah, maybe. Hope she does a Zane Lowe interview to break this era down.

[–]SubatomicSquirrels 33 points34 points  (3 children)

looks like a video is coming tonight

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0c66ksfigtU

[–]the_blessed_unrest 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I wonder what this is going to lead to

[–]Catterson 7 points8 points  (1 child)

It says video private! What was this?! 😲

[–]Vast-Duty2793 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is her best album. Hot pink is probably second place but I love the sonic and lyrical growth she showed since planet her

[–]jicuhrabbitkimsupport smol bizneses 208 points209 points  (0 children)

Her best album. I feel like this is Doja at her most comfortable.

I remember her saying she want’s a double album with half rap and half pop and I think somewhat achieve it here. Obv it leans more rap but

[–]mackandcheez 112 points113 points  (8 children)

She said not only can she rap, she can do it in so many different styles. Throughout the album she gave Nicki, she gave Travis, she gave Kendrick, she gave Missy, she maybe even gave a lil Wayne. But it also still had some Doja flare to it. She really came with it and made a great album.

[–]blk222 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Let's not forget Kilo Kish on Agora Hills! Sis can do it all. She's so theatrical with her delivery

[–]TEXASJerome 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Can't Wait is a Tyler song and you can't convince me otherwise

[–]mackandcheez 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was getting some Lauryn Hill vibes

[–]wycie100 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Skull and bones is very much a Tyler the creator vibe

[–]SloppyDrunkCarrot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And Baby Keem on Demons

[–]jicuhrabbitkimsupport smol bizneses 252 points253 points  (14 children)

Agora Hills is up there as one of her best songs in her discography. So quintessential Doja.

[–]briskpoint 97 points98 points  (13 children)

What are y’all hearing that I’m not?

[–]MrSensical 68 points69 points  (5 children)

RIGHT? The song sounds so unremarkable to me but people are raving about it in this thread. It feels like filler to me idk what i'm missing

[–]whatfuckingever420 46 points47 points  (1 child)

It’s reminiscent of Amala. People missed old Doja sound

[–]Thin_Math5501 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love Amala and I definitely get the vibes but I’m not sure about the song. The best song in my opinion is Ouchies.

[–]MeerK4T 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I personally really like it, but they were always def going to say that was the best song because it's the poppiest song on the record

[–]acloudfullofrain 42 points43 points  (1 child)

She really shit on people for liking Hot Pink and Planet Her, then proceed to release this 💀 Gimme a break.

[–]m20geekarina 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Everyone else is babes, idk what to tell you. It's the quintessential doja sound

[–]ss2811 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Doja really did her thing with this album! You can tell she’s worked on her craft. Personally I would argue, on first listen, this is a very strong project. It feels authentically Doja and a natural progression from Planet Her, imo.

If you’re not into rap music, you might struggle to love this album at first. But I think rap fans will really appreciate the sound of this album because it’s really good.

Agora Hills makes so much sense as the next single, that hook is so catchy!

[–]Consistent-Quantity3 330 points331 points  (38 children)

Starts like a typical Doja album, then suddenly everything from Agora Hills up to the end is legit awesome and her most adventurous stuff easily. I just know she has a perfect project in her but idk why she always manages to be a bit inconsistent. The closest she's come to a consistent project was Hot Pink but Scarlet has her best track stretch i think.

[–]BoomYouLooking 203 points204 points  (13 children)

I think she managed to strike a balance between being experimental while satisfying her old fans. There’s enough traditional bops in here to please her core.

[–]Consistent-Quantity3 71 points72 points  (10 children)

That's a great point and absolutely correct considering how things went with Attention and PTTR. Still i think she definitely has the capabilities to inject some more personality even on her traditional bops, though i get why she's still playing it safe in some tracks considering her core base and the extremely high chance of label pressure! (Btw hope she gets out of Kemosabe asap)

[–]BoomYouLooking 110 points111 points  (1 child)

Honestly I feel like this is the most creative freedom I’ve seen a newer pop star have, like, ever. I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the deal from the label was “fine, you can do what you want but throw us a few in there that we can service to radio”. I think some of the more radio stuff is good though. Gun is very much a Hot Pink song.

[–]Consistent-Quantity3 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah Gun is a nice one. I also like PTTR and 97 quite a bit fron the first half! And yeah the fact that she even managed to put that last track stretch in there is honestly amazing.

[–]Colten95 76 points77 points  (7 children)

why do you want her to leave the label? for her caliber I feel like she has an INSANE and I mean INSANE amount of freedom

[–]zuluuaeb 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Agreed - haven't seen anyone in pop/pop adjacent with a big label and media presence that has had this much creative freedom in recent memory. Also the freedom she is afforded is not just her album and projects but also her social media presence and public reception

[–]Consistent-Quantity3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly saying that because of her being forced to work with a certain producer in the past. But I see he has no credits on here so maybe they finally allowed her to lay him off. I wasn't thinking about success at all when writing that.

[–]shoestring-theory 24 points25 points  (1 child)

RCA hasn’t had an artist be this big and consistent in nearly a decade. Kind of crazy considering SZA’s huge now too.

[–]rediscoveredark 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tinashe would've been on that list if they weren't absolute idiots with her lol

[–]lavenderhoneychai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She’s been forced to work with Dr. Luke because it’s his label

[–]thebiggestwhiffer 81 points82 points  (20 children)

Starts like a typical Doja album

apart from paint the town red, no it doesn't. I'm not sure what you mean at all.

[–]Consistent-Quantity3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah like that user above me said i was mostly referring to accessibility. English is not my first language and the comment was basically some quick first impressions so i'm sorry if didn't communicate that accurately!

[–]Virtual_Leader9639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cmon gun agora hills paint the town red wet vagina can be in any album of hers.

[–]p0phead 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not the hugest Doja Stan but like I feel like a couple of the early songs don't sound like her older stuff. Sure Paint the Town Red does but that's like it

[–]SuchCondition 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m only on Go Off and have been impressed with how insane this album is so far. I can’t even imagine what’s to come after agora hills

[–]BoomYouLooking 74 points75 points  (2 children)

Fun Scarlet drinking game: take a shot every time she name drops or references the Kardashians. Your level of inebriation may surprise you.

[–]sfatz27 40 points41 points  (1 child)

or says “ice”

[–]BoomYouLooking 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You want people to die.

[–]cherryflavoursoda 35 points36 points  (0 children)

WYM freestyle was so fun and insane to end the album with!! so good!!

[–]megisbest 177 points178 points  (3 children)

So she really had every reason to be talking all that shit huh…

[–]ScienceNeverLies 71 points72 points  (2 children)

Right!?! After listening I shut my mouth and sat down. Love this for her!

[–]megisbest 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Just sat on my floor and listened for an hour like 😯

[–]chillwithpurpose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yuppp I woke up early today and just listened to the whole thing before I got out of bed. Nice way to start the day.

[–]kreiosvasu 57 points58 points  (1 child)

cheers to the album that has made me into a full blown doja stan. wow.

[–]KEMI_IS_WlNNlNG 29 points30 points  (0 children)

ouchies is my fav

[–]alt_sauce124 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The R&B girlies who grew up on quite storm will instantly know the sample in Agora Hills— love this song.

There is a nice undercurrent of vintage R&B from this album you wouldn’t expect

[–]HuhThatsWeird432 94 points95 points  (0 children)

One thing you cannot say is that she doesnt have is star power. Insane production and she did exactly what she set out to do: piss yall off and then drop an amazing album so no one can deny her talent lmao

[–]dhruvlrao 49 points50 points  (5 children)

I think 97 is the only grower for me, but other than that, hit after hit really. Easily her most consistent album, in terms of quality and overall themes.

As everyone said, Agora Hills is definitely a highlight, especially with the spoken interludes. "It's so lonely in my mansion" hahahaha

[–]Savings_Visual8372 38 points39 points  (0 children)

“baby you’re literally capping to me right now! like why are you capping me?” 😭😭😭😭

[–]thebiggestwhiffer 22 points23 points  (2 children)

wild because 97 is my immediate favourite

[–]dhruvlrao 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair I was listening to the album during my morning commute to work & 97 was when someone pissed me off on the road so I couldn't enjoy the song as much.

I'll probably relisten to it & it'll click for me.

[–]its_panda-- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. Like immediately I heard it I knew it was the one. She ate that

[–]sweetnsoursauce11 77 points78 points  (6 children)

after two listen the front half till Agora Hills is the stronger half for me bc i love more upbeat Doja. this will definitely be a grower album however as the second listen made me like the album alot more.

Ouches and Agora Hills are my standouts. Can't Wait and Often are forgettable imo and couldn't been cut. i always find 2-3 tracks in a doja album i could do without.

Fuck The Girls! about to start more online fighting lol.

[–]gogodboss 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Can't Wait is one of my favorites

[–]jwC731 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ntm on Often! She was in her Erykah Badu bag

[–]raingurlxx__ 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Can’t Wait is the first song I clicked with on this new album. Did you dislike all the Pharrell produced tracks on Sweetener? Lmao tf

[–]sweetnsoursauce11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LMAO i love the pharrell sweetener tracks, they are some of her best work.

it probably just needs time to grow on me like i've had two listens lmao calm down

[–]MeerK4T 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't Wait and Often should not be cut. If anything was cut, I think it should have been a weaker song before Agora Hills in the tracklist

[–]CRXL4TRQ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Holy fuck this is good… like… VERY good.

[–]skyppie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Skull and Bones is the best song IMO.

Ain't it funny she referenced Helga Pataki and Cardi used that to diss Nicki just a couple days ago.

[–]auntyshrew 60 points61 points  (15 children)

Really enjoyed this, definitely going to be in rotation for the year. Great production and solid writing. Got a good amount of rap Doja which is my personal favourite Doja, with some branching out and experimentation that works well imo. She could potentially have tightened it to 13/14 songs instead of 17 considering that would make a potential deluxe 19+ songs. But there aren't any bad songs so I'm not mad.

The one thing I will say is I partly wish there had been a few features. I understand having an album with no features can be a statement (especially in this case since she literally says, "Don't need a big feature or a new side kick"). But at this point she's so big she could get anyone, and I heard a few songs on there that have perfect feature potential. Having said that though, I didn't find any of the songs to be lacking, so she does pull it off.

[–]BoomYouLooking 98 points99 points  (14 children)

I think she didn’t do features because she wanted this album to be entirely self-written. The second female rapper to ever do so, behind Missy Elliott.

[–]auntyshrew 75 points76 points  (10 children)

I completely understand the vision and I'm very impressed that she's pulled it off successfully.

⁽ᴴᵒʷᵉᵛᵉʳ, ᶜᵒⁿˢᶦᵈᵉʳ ᵃ ᴿᶦᶜᵒ ᴺᵃˢᵗʸ ᶠᵉᵃᵗᵘʳᵉ ᵒⁿ ᴰᵉᵐᵒⁿˢ⁾

[–]BoomYouLooking 55 points56 points  (8 children)

Technically she can do whatever she wants for a remix. Maybe a whole remix album 👀

[–]auntyshrew 16 points17 points  (3 children)

I'd love that. I could also see her deciding to ride out the whole era without any features or remixes at all to drive the point home.

[–]BoomYouLooking 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Yes but, walk with me. Ice Spice on Gun.

[–]daignsam 7 points8 points  (1 child)

That make me wanna try an AI remix. I did a remix of Agora Hills with Nicki actually haha

[–]BoomYouLooking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pls send

[–]blaertes 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Please, feed usssssss

[–]tomservo88 18 points19 points  (2 children)

lemme get that Barack Obama feature on the second verse

[–]TheOriginalVampire_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who knows he might even get his third Grammy lol

[–]echoviolet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Or even doechii LIKE????

[–]thaarmin 12 points13 points  (2 children)

im confused, where is it self-written? i was looking through the credits on each song on spotify and there are other writers on the tracks so i was wondering where we are getting that from aha

[–]BoomYouLooking 55 points56 points  (1 child)

the CD pamphlet. on Spotify and other streaming services they put the producers along with any writers from a sample. the CD pamphlet has separate credits for producers, samples and songwriters. doja is the only songwriter for every song on the album.

[–]thaarmin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

oh damn! right i forgot they did that haha thanks for explaining!

[–]SubatomicSquirrels 141 points142 points  (12 children)

that album cover is still underwhelming

[–]zuluuaeb 87 points88 points  (2 children)

Idk - it matches her entire aesthetic this era and also the two spiders kind of representing the two very distinct halves/sounds of the album is cool imagery. I enjoy the album cover

[–]BlizzyLizzie 16 points17 points  (1 child)

This is a GREAT point on the imagery. I’m obsessed with with the second half of this album too. Haven’t seen many mentions of Love Life in this thread but it’s very reminiscent of old school hip hop.

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Omg ya’ll are MISSING the symbolism ITS A CLIT.

[–]xfrombelow 38 points39 points  (1 child)

I love spiders and i love simple album covers, so for me it is amazing lol

[–]newtoreddir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s nice when they’re not too fussed over. The album cover says that this is the aesthetic but worry more about what’s on the inside - the music.

[–]akanewasright 19 points20 points  (2 children)

I’m still waiting for her to change it at midnight EST

[–]sfatz27 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Normally Apple Music has an animated cover ready to go for big new releases, right now Scarlet’s is stationary, so maybe it’s not the final cover?

Idk probably not but I am underwhelmed by the current cover lol

[–]bloodshugababe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s by far her best album cover lol

[–]tigeralidance 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I really loved Balut and Attention, and liked the other singles too. Got big hopes for this album.

[–]sugasofficial 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love this album. She’s done amazing.

[–]aproperopinion 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My god Agora Hills is perfect

[–]satirisantitruthing on your living papa 🦄🎀✍️ 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I liked the album overall, my favorite tracks were demons and wet vagina outright, others might grow on me. Her controversies really line up with the messages conveyed in the album. It was a little more apologetic than expected and I could strongly hear the throwback rap influence. I’m so happy she really stuck to a sonically rappy rap album and not every song was so pop hook reliant. But her painting her imagery to be so satanic just to reject those claims in one of the later tracks was crazy. Digging the fact it was entirely self written with no collabs.

[–]SomethingNeatnClever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Those two songs are undoubtedly my favorite so far. And I like that she leaned into the rap cuz that’s how I prefer Doja.

[–]murraykate 28 points29 points  (0 children)

KANYE BEHAVIOUR !!!!!!!! (not in the current bad nazi way but like how before kanye would annoy everyone for a bit then drop a fire album and we would all have to stfu)

[–]lollykpops 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, she was talking all that shit for a reason. Sorry for doubting you queen.

Attention is still a strong favourite for me but I looooove ouchies 🔥 I hear that missy influence.

[–]lonelyvers 56 points57 points  (1 child)

Amazing album IMO. However it could be improved with some reordering and maybe removing the freestyle. Skull and bones feels like a closer and then it just abruptly cuts to attention which is a pretty jarring transition. That aside her lyricism, the melodies and the production makes this my favourite album of the year so far.

[–]BoomYouLooking 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hope she pulls a Rare and rearranges the track list on the deluxe.

[–]fuoricontestofolklore 41 points42 points  (0 children)

i'm not exactly a big doja fan, i don't like any of her previous albums fully but i did enjoy some tracks. this is definitely a standout to me! i like most of the tracks on here i think it's her best by far

[–]whyamiacpa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The run from 97 to Can’t Wait! Can’t wait to listen to this while driving. Agora Hills is just so smooth and sexy

[–]bostonbedlam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ouchies and Agora Hills are fucking 🔥🔥🔥

[–][deleted] 45 points46 points  (4 children)

i genuinely think this album will go down as a classic in female rap and rap in general…

[–]Amazing-Influence-16 10 points11 points  (2 children)

is demons mixed better here or am i tripping?

[–]blk222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My thoughts too! I feel like before with the initial pre-release PTTR into Demons was kinda messy, but now it flows way better

[–]amperx11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Possibly, I didn't love it before but this time around i enjoyed it way more

[–]PotatoPancake420:gaga-famemonster: 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I definitely think this is her best album with Hot Pink!

It’s cohesive, her lyricism is some of her best, and there’s a lot of different topics she plays with

[–]arobotbunnyhead 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ouchies 😮‍💨🔥😩

[–]katycat162534 :katy-perry-nro: 7 points8 points  (0 children)

WYM Freestyle was so good! That is what I expected with all the teasing she did over the year! Instantly my favorite off the album. I like the others too, Agora Hills and Fuck The Girls were the other standouts for me, Agora Hills reminds me so much of Nicki Minaj's earlier work. It's going to be on rotation for me for the rest of the year, I just know it!

[–]Midnights-evermore 24 points25 points  (13 children)

I only liked Paint The Town Red from the pre-released singles so I was worried but the album is so good? It’s actually different than the singles (in the best way) and it sounds so fresh and unique. Her flows are amazing, the beats are on point. Her lyricism didn’t do anything for me but the album is one of those records that are fun enough that I don’t harp too much on the lyrics.

Over all, surprised I liked it as much as I did. If you hated the singles, still give it a listen! It’s really different

[–]BoomYouLooking 35 points36 points  (10 children)

I think the lyrics will grow on you. She’s definitely being tongue-in-cheek but there’s some double or triple entendres hidden within the album that floored me as a rap fan.

[–]teleholic 4 points5 points  (9 children)

Could you share some? I feel like I’d love to get into rap more and I get excited when other people are excited about stuff!

[–]BoomYouLooking 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Way too many to put in one comment, especially bc I’m finishing up an album party with my friends and I’m a little wine drunk but here we go!

“The only thing I sold was a record” stood out, given the Satan allegations.

“Hundred billis, I’m the GOAT, no Eilish” is a fun, simple triple entendre.

“Rick Owens fork/fuck with brand new China” Rick Owens has a lot of stores in China but the fork/fuck wordplay works for China as in the cutlery (im tired, someone could probably break this one down better than I can)

“You full of Remy, now your face looked tired. Used to be the baby Ma, you Marten now.” simple double entendre aimed at Remy Ma who famously said that Doja Cat is not a rapper. (Edit: Remy Martin as well)

“Speeding through the city we medicated the horses.” most likely talking about a Mustang

“Don’t forget the cheetah print, come here, record it” Cheetahs are fast.

That’s all I have in me right now, I will update when I wake up sober.

You disliked attention and balut? I thought pttr was boring bc it sounds like planet her.

[–]LifeOfAWimpyKid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She came up the most fucked up rollout for this and she actually pulled it off 😮

[–]saske2k20 24 points25 points  (0 children)

All the amazing aesthetics for this shitty album cover? Damn!

[–]COCKHAMPTON_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Doja Cat kind of sounds like Clairo on Agora Hills

[–]Colten95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

wow I expected amazing but this is just wow!! I'm obsessed and I think? this is my new favorite album of hers. highlight is obviously agora hills

[–]blk222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agora Hills had me thinking Doja had a secret Kilo Kish feature 😭

[–]International_Pen_11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

idk what to say but i fucking love this album from start to finish. i can tell my fav song is gonna be changing constantly. great album imo

[–]ogxheartthrob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

y’all why did I think coco & clair were on agora hills for a sec

[–]TahaymTheBigBrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gun goes so fucking hard

[–]Cautious_Slay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m really into this. It’s definitely more chill than her previous work, but i can see this album being on rotation for when i smoke’n chill

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Agora hills is so gen z era and I love it

[–]loveshart 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Angora Hills sounds like kitty (pryde) track

[–]solarlunaas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a different tempo to what she’s done previously, it’s more 90s RnB and slower paced. Agora Hills (Which I think just from the sounds of it samples All I Do Is Think Of You by Troop) & Wet Vagina are definitely stand outs to me.

Demons & Attention were definitely the best picks for singles as the rest of the album I found a bit meh- but that’s me personally because I prefer more uptempo songs. For someone who loves 90s RnB and rap songs it would be the perfect album.

[–]xfrombelow 16 points17 points  (2 children)

I know nothing about Doja’s music but i came across couple tracks, and I can’t stop listening to these 4 tracks (album not out yet where i live) and I cant wait to listen to the full thing. I am also a huge Kendrick fan (like everybody else); Balut and Demons gave me big Kendrick vibes. Hope the entire album is as solid!

[–]thebiggestwhiffer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

demons is closer to baby keem than it is to kendrick, which isnt too far considering the association

[–]BoomYouLooking 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes! I said in a recent thread that you can tell that Kendrick is one of Doja’s biggest inspirations.

[–]sio_22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ughh this is already my favourite body of work from her. Say what you wanna say about doja but the music is hitting. gonna be playing this on repeat for the rest of the year

[–]slappycider 20 points21 points  (1 child)

I have this complaint with a lot of "dark" pop girl eras but ugh, I wish the darkness of the visuals and what's been teased up to this record matched the vibe... I'm struggling to pinpoint a track except maybe Demons that is lining up with what was to be expected from the advertising.

[–]alt_sauce124 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happen with Planet Her— I think Anthony Fanto made the same comment. The initial concept isn’t anywhere else on the album

[–]raingurlxx__ 22 points23 points  (2 children)

HOW MY DEMONS LOOK?! (Not me first texting my friends this morning, “WHERE MA DEMONS AT”.) This will be liked and disliked. Half of this album works. If you smoke weed, drink your water, like Jay Electronica and Noname, then this back half is for you. Heavily Erykah Badu inspired. I kept spamming the group chat with each succeeding song.

[–]rosecoloreds 12 points13 points  (3 children)

i have very mixed feelings about this album. i think it has a nice production, especially on the second half and none of the songs (with the exception of PTTR) sound like her previous releases which is good cause that was her main goal for the album. buuuut.... it's quite boring to me, even the more upbeat first half.

Ouchies is a stand out for me tbh, love the Missy inspiration on it and wish there were more songs like it on the album. Agora Hills is fine but i don't see it as an "instant classic" rn. Attention remains the best single.

also i'm upset her aesthetic this era doesn't match up the album at all. how are you going to pull all the demonic/satanic shit for months and then have only one song out of 17 match the exact aesthetic you were selling?

[–]blk222 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I don't think the music was ever meant to have that aesthetic actually. Some of the songs and eventually the visuals were a direct reply to what was going on in the media for her and they knew it would sell. All she did was shave her hair and get tattoos and people thrusted the whole "selling your soul" concept on her so they ran with it.

[–]Health_Own 5 points6 points  (0 children)

doesnt it feel like she didnt record half this album until after the controversies? like literally most of the album is her goin "lol hater mad, idc lolol im rich ur not"

her lyrics are so bland

[–]areyounotembarazzedd 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Going to listen to this at the gym! So excited!

[–]areyounotembarazzedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loved it! So good. I feel like pop music has been meh this year but doja and olivia really came through

[–]TypicalBiscotti629 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t come for me but Agora Hills is giving Kitty (formerly Pryde) vibes

[–]p0phead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the first half of rap bangers and the 2nd half of more experimental different sounds for Doja

[–]Global_Perspective_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo she is here at her most comfortable. This is what and who she truly is. I absolutely love it.

[–]sulivon88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this.

[–]coalmines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s so good!

[–]LifeOfAWimpyKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh she wasn't kidding when she called Planet Her a cash grab

[–]No-Organization-9137 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s okay and feels boring overall. Her songs start to sound the same.

[–]kuuzumine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wet Vagina is so good

[–]trashynoah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She fuckin did it man. This is her best work. The whole era is amazing! The drama, the promotion, the singles, the music videos, this is easily a career defining album for her, and I only see it going up from here!

[–]jhtt17 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Doja is giving coco & Clair Clair in agora hills

[–]monadrissa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agora Hills to me is reminiscent of Pretty by Coco and Clair Clair especially the valley girl accent part

[–]ilourdes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WYM freestyle is not getting enough love. Love the way her voice sounds and how into it she gets

[–]Heronyvesdior 35 points36 points  (2 children)

doja is a good rapper and got good raps but shes really losing the idgaf war hard on this album. i wish she would address the hate from a more honest place and with more introspection rather than being like "fuck the haters, you guys are the crazy ones". idk its seem more like a cope than anything else. like there a song with the chorus repeating "we dont give a shit"... sure you do. the love songs like agora hills are better imo because shes not trying to front.

the songs are cool and empowering by themselves but the whole album screams insecurity when you listen to them one after the other. it doesnt seem like shes above the situation at all and is letting people get to her more than she should allow to.

songs are kinda basic structurally but there are nice tunes you can throw in a playlist. i was kinda expecting something crazier or creative, especially when she hyped it up by shitting on her other albums, meanwhile it kinda falls in line with her other shit.

anyways, cool raps but energy is off. 6-7/10

[–]BoomYouLooking 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Skull and Bones (imo) addresses it from an apologetic place and so does Love Life

[–]LittleBlackQueen22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is my take on it so far. I like the second half much better than the first one so far (gonna finish it after I get out of class), and I think it’s partly because the “ha ha I don’t give a shit look at me” was getting so tiring. Like someone who doesn’t give a shit wouldn’t feel the need to repeat it 300 times🙄

Her antics before and during this era definitely are contributing to why I can’t get into this album as much tbh, and also the first few songs just….aren’t…..good to me? Lyrically they’re weak and repetitive and the beats are really basic. Everything from Gun onwards though is an absolute bop thus far, like I wish the whole album was just this second half😭

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't get what everyone is liking about Agora Hills lol. I was ready to skip it half way through..super boring song. Idk feeling the same way about most of these. Was hoping it would be way more like Paint the town red and demons.

[–]recklesswanderer__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she acted like she was switching it up big time, but as an old fan i can say that somehow it still aligns with everything i loved about her. there was more rapping involved but i still feel the core of doja cat from past albums is there. this album is just GREAT.

[–]dbwn87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a mild Doja Cat fan for a while, and was curious to see where she would go next while having pretty low expectations, but she absolutely killed it with Scarlet. Not a single track I wanted to skip; we've got classic her classic sound, some really good rapping, and some really interesting sounding stuff that's a bit different for her. Overall, this album has a lot going on for it, with a really fun overall vibe. I think Doja has really carved her place with this album.

My standouts after first listen, in addition to the singles which were all good, are Fvck the Girls (FTG), Agora Hills, Can't Wait, and ESPECIALLY Ouchies. Ouchies is really fvcking good!

[–]Alvin3792 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The album is a vibe.

I love Wet Vagina, Fuck the Girls, Gun, Go Off, Shutcho, Agora Hills, Balut, and WYM Freestyle
