[–][deleted] 81 points82 points  (0 children)

r/popheads finally has taste

[–]Arybeck67 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Jon Caramanica is a r/popheads user confirmed.

[–]DlSTANTDREAMER 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Someone forgot to put /s on their post

[–]cashewconstellationI live for the fire and the rain and the drama, too 15 points16 points  (0 children)

one point too much

[–]Mudkip1 83 points84 points  (2 children)

lianne la havas going from #108 on the mid-year to #24 on the year-end is so iconic. we have to stan

[–]thunderbird_14 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was released on July , I think some - including me - put it in their top ten when it was technically ineligible back then 😅

[–]BlueMetalWave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's what she deserves! It would be dissapointing for such a great album to go unnoticed

[–]waluigiest 182 points183 points  (1 child)

Rina Sawayama beating folklore and Future Nostalgia is a level of taste I didn’t know Popheads was capable of!!! XS is gonna go #1 this year I’m manifesting it.

Fiona Apple just out of the top 10 is sad, but I’m happy that her album has enough crossover appeal that it was still highly represented.

[–]queenmeme2 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It’s really interesting. Folklore was either your number 1 or number 2 of the year or likely not on your list, while SAWAYAMA was spread out pretty equally across all positions. So if you didn’t love Folklore, there’s a high chance it didn’t even register but basically everyone loved Sawayama

[–]thunderbird_14 102 points103 points  (1 child)

Rina with SOTY and AOTY?! Yessss pls

[–]yatcho 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I believe in Sawayama supremacy, and I'm glad this sub does too..now everyone stream Dynasty for clear skin

[–]ReallyCreative 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Rina overcoming 30 more people putting folklore at #1... Ranked choice voting has never looked sexier tbh

[–]smc218 21 points22 points  (0 children)

positions over Cape God??? Make it make sense

[–]goodbyesindisguise 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes to whoever else said FLETCHER 😍 the taste

A lot of these top results were definitely expected but I’m happy to see Heartbreak Weather made the top 25 👀

[–]Misentro 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Popheads: We want disco-inspired dance pop!

Kylie: *DISCO*

Popheads: 🙈

[–]oscarbrierley1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In hindsight I should've done some more tactical votes because I was the only voter for like half my list

[–]cashewconstellationI live for the fire and the rain and the drama, too 9 points10 points  (0 children)

High Road deserved better

[–]rebecca_now 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congratulations Rina!!!! Who is gonna tell her?

I feel like she specifically made this album for this sub so I'm super duper happy for her haha

[–]walman93 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly...these results look pretty damn good!

Very happy to see Folklore, SAWAYAMA and What’s Your Pleasure? In the top 5

Also love seeing Chromatica getting some end of year love ❤️

[–]jayydee92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yasss Sawayama. Also glad to see Manic did well, it seemed to get lost in the shuffle a bit as the year went on. RTJ4 making the cut is nice too, it's in my top 3.

[–]nelson64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Allie X erasure

[–]buddhacharm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lianne's surge from the mid-year to the end-of-year list...a moment most pleasing to me in my career (and yes I'm aware of its release date idc idc!)

SAWAYAMA, What's Your Pleasure, Women In Music Pt. III, Lianne self-titled, Punisher and SMHOFI getting their due yup

[–]fweakywhore 75 points76 points  (14 children)

Chromatica .... above Plastic Hearts??? above Ungodly Hour???? above I Disagree??? Damn the economy really is damaged

[–]wellgroomedmcpoyle:carly-2: 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was happy to see Poppy at least crack the top ten but that was in my top 3 this year. Such an experience of an album from start to finish.

[–]walman93 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I put Chromatica above both tbh

All three were in my top 10 though

[–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (7 children)

But Chromatica is good

[–]saltystir 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Its good dance music with a cool aesthetic, but it isnt going to be a long remembered album

[–]fweakywhore 23 points24 points  (5 children)

it’s okay at best, no real stand out tracks aside from maybe alice, sour candy and replay. definitely wouldn’t have said it was in the top 10 🧍🏻‍♂️

[–]team_kockroach 8 points9 points  (4 children)

you're forgetting 911, Babylon and Enigma

[–]jayhawksfan0965 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Plastic Doll and Free Woman are my faves 😅🙈

So I think this speaks well to Chromatica??

[–]fweakywhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like Free Woman melodically 😪

[–]fweakywhore 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I didn’t mention them for a reason

[–]jayhawksfan0965 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha just sayin 3 diff posters had 3 diff faves across the album, cant be a bad thing 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]hausofmiklaus 6 points7 points  (2 children)

This is not even a question. Oh at all. Clock the flair but I’d even put Chromatica above Future Nostalgia most days. Also have you read the critical reception for both records? Lmao

[–]fweakywhore 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I genuinely do not have the slightest care for what a critic thinks about music lmao, changes is literally up for a grammy

[–]hausofmiklaus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just had to mention more credible sources. Plus there’s a huge difference between the corrupt Recording Academy and thousands of writers and music critics who do this for a living.

[–]FerBaide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ehh Plastic Hearts ain’t that good, Chromatica is definitely better. It was pretty inconsistent and Hannah Montana-esque, at least too much for my liking.

[–]njne1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shout out to me and the four other Donna Missal stans on this sub!

[–]JJs33072 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sawayama at the top as she should 🥰

[–]negropolitan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chloe x Halla in the top ten I know that's right

[–]DaCoolNamesWereTaken 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll have to try Sawayama again

[–]givebackmysweatshirt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

rina at 1 and the weeknd making top 10 (deserves higher but still)

maybe i was too mean to some of you 👏🏻👏🏻

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thinking about how Charli could've been #5 if I placed Punisher lower on my list

Anyway, these are sone great picks, glad to see some love for Gaga as well!

[–]frogaranaman 18 points19 points  (3 children)

here's my submission + their results

  1. Bad Bunny - YHLQMDLG [35]
  2. The Avalanches - We Will Always Love You [58]
  3. Jessie Ware - What’s Your Pleasure? [04]
  4. Tkay Maidza - Last Year Was Weird Vol. 2 [34]
  5. clipping. - Visions Of Bodies Being Burned [63]
  6. Flo Milli - Ho, why is you here ? [54]
  7. Aminé - Limbo [156]
  8. Run The Jewels - RTJ4 [25]
  9. Mac Miller - Circles [40]   should be 39 with 80 points because Circles - Mac Miller has 3 points lol
  10. The Weeknd - After Hours [10]

super happy w these results!! glad some of my votes made the top 25🙇🏼

[–]Leixander[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

should be 39 with 80 points because Circles - Mac Miller has 3 points lol

Knew I forgot to fix something there lmao, I will fix that in a while.

Edit: Fixed.

[–]wellgroomedmcpoyle:carly-2: 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RTJ4 and Alfredo were the only two rap albums this year that would have cracked my top ten with Mac just outside.

[–]JJs33072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

limbo and circles were a few of my favs too, for sure my top 2 “rap” albums

[–]q-sizzzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You ALL are sleeping on Dagny’s Stangers / Lovers

[–]EatMyAssTeach 11 points12 points  (3 children)

The disrespect to after hours is sickening 😷

[–]wellgroomedmcpoyle:carly-2: 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I really don't get the hype behind it tbh. Blinding Lights is an incredible song and there are other highlights throughout the album but I wouldn't even say it stands out from his other albums. I'd definitely put it behind Trilogy and Kissland and maybe even My Dear Melancholy (as short as it is). Kinda falls in the Starboy/Beauty Behind the Madness territory for me.

[–]benevolent_llama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. It ranks low in his discography for me and low amongst most of the albums released this year. Besides the initial three singles, the rest of the album doesn’t standout to me.

[–]EatMyAssTeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

???, it's easily up their with kissland and trilogy. i will agree trilogy is better.

[–]__Avaritia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some.. choices at the bottom of this list (and Troye missing the top 25 just barely :( ) but I’m so glad Rina won, phenomenal record

These were my picks along with their final placements, I picked 2 electronic albums which (predictably) no one else picked, but other than that, most of them actually appeared here... lol

  1. Charli XCX - how i'm feeling now [7]
  2. Troye Sivan - In a Dream [28]
  3. Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA [1]
  4. BRONSON - BRONSON
  5. Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure? [4]
  6. Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher [6]
  7. Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia [3]
  8. Spencer Brown - Stream of Consciousness
  9. Lady Gaga - Chromatica [8]
  10. 5 Seconds of Summer - CALM [85]

[–]pheromenosflairs are important 5 points6 points  (0 children)

7 of my albums made the top 10...gotta love my basic taste. No regrets though, they deserve their spots.

[–]McIgglyTuffMuffin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stealing frog's idea;

  1. Taylor Swift - folklore [2]

  2. Halsey - Manic [14]

  3. Machine Gun Kelly - Tickets to My Downfall [47]

  4. Taylor Swift - evermore [5]

  5. Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher [6]

  6. Bruce Springsteen - Letter To You [110]

  7. Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts [13]

  8. All Time Low - Wake Up, Sunshine [114]

  9. Kelsea Ballerini - kelsea [119]

  10. Best Coast - Always Tomorrow [349]

Surprised Bruce got more points than Kelsea. Damn.

[–]txrxwxwx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Women saving the world, as per usual 🤝

[–]BlueMetalWave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really glad to see Sawayama's #1. I expected another result but I'm so glad this was it! Seeing Lianne's album score so high when it isn't talked much about here was another pleasant surprise and Yelle also scored slightly higher than I expected.

Here are my submitions and results

  1. Yelle - L'Ère du Verseau [138]
  2. Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure? [04]
  3. Kali Uchis - Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) [30]
  4. Chloe x Halle - Ungodly Hour [09]
  5. Empress Of - I'm Your Empress Of [71]
  6. Rina Sawayama - Sawayama [01]
  7. Lianna La Havas - Lianne La Havas [24]
  8. Róisin Murphy - Róisin Machine [27]
  9. Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia [03]
  10. Bree Runway - 2000AND4EVA [54]

[–]saltystir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree about Sawayama. I loved it when I first listened to it but the sonic elements aged v fast because it was made to sound so 2000’s. I think Rina could definitely have a #1 coming up but this wasnt above future nostalgia, evermore, folklore, or punisher for me.

[–]chiyosayuri:sawayama: 1 point2 points  (1 child)

happy that poppy cracked top 20 🥲🤌🏽

[–]agarret83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love CRJ but dedicated side B being above Poppy is wrong

[–]King_Tyson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Taylor Swift - folklore (#2)
  2. Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher (#6)
  3. Hayley Williams - Petals For Armor (#21)
  4. Niall Horan - Heartbreak Weather (tied for #25)
  5. Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia (#3)
  6. Declan McKenna - Zeros (#66)
  7. Lady Gaga - Chromatica (#8)
  8. Selena Gomez - Rare (#22)
  9. Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B (#15)
  10. Halsey - Manic (#14)

Honorable Mentions:

  • Charli XCX - how i'm feeling now (#7)
  • Taylor Swift - evermore (#5)
  • HAIM - Women In Music Pt. III (#12)
  • Conan Gray - Kid Krow (#67)
  • Allie X - Cape God (#18)

Declan McKenna and Conan Gray are the only ones I had on my list that didn't make the top 25.

[–]mionestyles:taylor-lover: 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had folklore at #1 and Future Nostalgia at #2. I didn't even put Sawayama on my list.

[–]CherrySodaBoy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re far enough away for me to ask this question now: I don’t understand the hype on Fiona Apple’s album. What is it that you guys liked?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OMG RINA!!!

I thought f*lklore would win but popheads showed taste for once, stream Who's Gonna Save U Now!

[–]percyinthestyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad Rina made it to #1, she really does deserve it. Also nice to see Lianne La Havas crack the top 25! I still haven’t listened to her album, but the couple songs I’ve heard from her are really good and she doesn’t seem to be an overall popheads favorite, so I’m sure she earned the spot. Anyway, here’s my list + their spots on the overall list:

  1. Hayley Williams - Petals for Armor [#21]

  2. Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA [#1]

  3. Penelope Scott - Public Void [#175]

  4. Raleigh Ritchie - Andy [#119]

  5. Poppy - I Disagree [#19]

  6. Halsey - Manic [#14]

  7. Taylor Swift - evermore [#5]

  8. Penelope Scott - The Junkyard 2 [#283]

  9. Taylor Swift - folklore [#2]

  10. Kesha - High Road [#43]

[–]bespectacIed -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I forgot to submit mine which has Rina on top but she still came through and defeated the white devil, yay

Future Nostalgia's case is interesting. It was the early favorite, and we recognize that it's still one of the best albums of the year, but we were all kinda exhausted with it

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't see how people are exhausted with it when it is ranked 3rd best and was on more lists than any other album.

The difference between 3rd place and 1st place is 29 points. The difference between 3rd place and 4th place is 650 points.

The top 3 are unanimously regarded as the best three releases of the year by this subreddit.

[–]izeasklapauciusLet's get slizzard sippin' sizzurp on Early 2010s Pop Rap Rate! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, had I not forget to post my list Ungodly Hour could've beaten Chromatica 😔. Happy for SAWAYAMA's placement though.

[–]Belle-ET-La-Bete -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Not JoJo barely making the top 50 😑😑😑 you people really have no taste.

[–]kielaurie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally the album was kinda average, but the deluxe had three great tracks, and Kiss was one of my top RnB songs if the year

[–]joexg:sawayama: 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally, justice for SAWAYAMA.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Happy about Future Nostalgia and Folklore but come on Kylie...

Oh well

[–]BudgetConscious8326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kylie is my absolute favorite artist but honestly Disco was a pretty big let down to me. I get it not ranking so high especially with some of the heavyweights this past year.

[–]jman457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I didn't realize this happened already. Was it never pinned? Anyways at least there is taste in this ranking with Sawayama being at number one (as she should). Only dissapointed Fleet Foxes-Shore ranked so low
