This is specifically why we disallow press releases unless they are directly from the partner, and even so, we have additional requirements developed in response to years of shilling

Can you blame em? Major news outlets were pumping the story without any DD. These media sources really are fake news. CNBC has the journalistic integrity of a facebook post.

[–]herooftheday77Tin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true unfortunately… major news outlets did copy this message way to fast. For example, my TeleTrader Webstation… the problem is, people / traders, are also paying for news sources, and they want to be fast… there is almost no time left for any bigger / deeper fact checking.

And the end it’s your own knowledge and experience which might let you double check any “breaking news” in the crypto space…hopefully.

The key with this one was to follow links to the "Source" in your news articles. Eventually, it ended at a press release that was not from Walmart. That was the red flag.

Geez though, that handle should post a correction bc that seems like some shit that could get you in trouble for pumping.

This is awful for crypto. We don't need pump and dump schemes becoming more clever!

What makes this even worse is that it fooled so many news outlets which in turn leads to many more people getting fucked over.

fuck those news outlets. They saw one tweet then instantly regurgitated all that shit without a single question

[–]forthemotherrussiaPlatinum | QC: CC 1002 30 points31 points  (10 children)

Or they do this intentionally because they have big bags of Litecoin and want to pump-dump it. It worked too. Litecoin's price went from $170 to $230 in minutes. Now it's at $170 again.

[–]TOMNOOKISACRIMINAL 94 points95 points  (28 children)

Whoever operates the Twitter would probably not get that type of information ahead of time. They likely saw the Reuters and MSNBC article and believed the information based on that.

I'm no republican but I always think about how the media would be reporting on the Afghanistan situation right now if Trump were president. I remember when he pulled out of Syria, they wrote articles for weeks about how we 'abandoned the Kurds.' But you barely hear anything about leaving Afghanistan anymore and that situation is way worse.

[–]suninabox 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I remember when he pulled out of Syria, they wrote articles for weeks about how we 'abandoned the Kurds.'

Trump pulled US support for the Kurds within 1 day of a phone call with Turkish President Recep Erdogan, without consulting any of the US military beforehand, and against the recommendation of the DoD.

you barely hear anything about leaving Afghanistan anymore and that situation is way worse.

Trump wanted to pull out of Afghanistan even earlier, May 2021.

Trump’s statement from April 18, 2021 "Getting out of Afghanistan is a wonderful and positive thing to do. I planned to withdraw on May 1.”

Trump was bragging how he forced Biden's hand to leave Afghanistan as recently as a month before withdrawal. It's only after its turned out to be a disaster that suddenly its all Bidens fault.

[–]SirCloudTin | ADA 9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue that regulations just make the playing field more uneven. Market manipulation is happening in the stock market as well, it's just that the small retail investor doesn't benefit as much from that. Whales gonna whale anyways.

What sucks is this could influence Walmart to not get involved with crypto. We need to find out who did this and send them to prison.

our media is trash through and through

[–]J17ster 2 points3 points  (1 child)

but it was fun whilst it lasted

[–]latte_yenHODL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun if you sold at $230.

[–]forthemotherrussiaPlatinum | QC: CC 1002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think news outlets did is on purpose. They had a lot of Litecoin and they just wanted to pump and dump it. It worked too. Litecoin's price went from $170 to $230 in minutes.. Now it's $170 again.

[–]jorgehn12Tin 3 points4 points  (1 child)

So the extra large bag I just bought was from fake news? God damn it. I’ll never get a lambo.

[–]itsfinallystormingPlatinum | QC: CC 87 | r/WSB 206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're buying when news comes out you're already too late. You'll never get that lambo.

You have to get in before the news.

Not to FOMO is always good

[–]Old_Afternoon3853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This manipulation is bad especially for those who have open leverage(d) positions. Many get liquidated in those flash seconds!

[–]SmegmaWarrior0815Bronze | 5 months old 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Everybody should have known. Nobody uses Litecoin for anything and never will.

[–]JohnMcafee4coffee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just wait

[–]Sopongebob123Crypto Detective 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I feel sad for the guy who bought at the top. Will take some time to come back to that price but it's LTC so it will anyway

[–]John_Sknow 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Better litecoin, than Shiba on Coinbase the other day...

Pump and dump groups are getting creative.

[–]JoyradProcyferTin 1 point2 points  (2 children)

So this article by Reuters, is bullshit? https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/walmart-accept-litecoin-payments-2021-09-13/

I'm gonna need some hardcore explanation here.

[–]Ashamed-Poetry-8991Tin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They fucked up. It’s fake

[–]NvidiaRTXPlatinum | QC: CC 483 | r/WSB 70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man this is why I stop trusting the news. Every single one of them, not just specific ones, and definitely not Facebook. But sometimes it's so tiring having to cross-validate everything since you can't rely on good journalism anymore.

Like if you know topic A well, and see a shitty article in the newspaper, it makes you question the content of every other topic X that you don't know.

[–]rottiegal86Tin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pump and dump at its finest...smh. Whoever controls the money, controls the media, don't listen to the news and get played by their FUD/FOMO. Pay attention to the charts instead.
