In theaters Nov. 18

The Menu

Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult star as a young couple who visit an exclusive restaurant on a remote island to indulge in a lavish tasting menu, prepared by a famed chef (Ralph Fiennes). Yet their appetites are satisfied with some unusual ingredients and shocking surprises. While the full plot of the darkly comedic psychological thriller remains under wraps, there are no doubt enough meaty twists and turns to go around.

[–]DrGarrious 167 points168 points  (2 children)

Turns out the steak is only served well done and the fish isnt de-boned.

A true psychological thriller in a restaurant setting.

[–]BlindStark 53 points54 points  (0 children)

WHERE'S THE LAMB SAUCE?!

[–]QLE814 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the twist when they looked at a calendar, and it turns out to be Monday!

[–]neverbuythesun 237 points238 points  (8 children)

Is it me or are there a lot of cannibal films atm

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Movies always seem to come out in waves.. Like remember when they flooded the market with live-action Snow White movies?

[–]Beanchilla 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Eat the rich, man.

[–]PureLock33 7 points8 points  (1 child)

except these movies are the opposite.

[–]Beanchilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that's true, but they appear as villains at least. Maybe they'll get eaten in the end.

[–]Pickle_Rick01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eat the rich! There’s nothing much more that they’re good for. Eat the rich! Have one bite now. Come back for more.

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (2 children)

You had me at Nicholas Hoult

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Huzzah!

[–]highpriestess420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Such a great show, pun intended!

[–]PM_ME_CAKE 17 points18 points  (2 children)

darkly comedic psychological thriller

At the point of four adjectives you may as well just start a word wall.

[–]Darryl_Lict 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Isn't that three adjectives?

[–]Weirdguy149 709 points710 points  (60 children)

The Menu is people, just betting.

[–]nayapapaya 244 points245 points  (23 children)

Well cannibalism is pretty hot right now.

[–]ARandomTopHat 154 points155 points  (8 children)

I didn't know Armie Hammer was cast.

[–]nayapapaya 65 points66 points  (5 children)

I knew someone would make this joke but I was really thinking about the fact that there have been and are later in the year a number of films and tv shows featuring cannibalism in them recently.

[–]Practice_NO_with_me 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Prepping us to be okay with it when the 'eat the rich' switch gets flipped for real real.

[–]nayapapaya 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Seems like the people in charge of green lighting this stuff should be trying to avoid that outcome.

[–]tarpatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man how could I forgotten about that little saga?

[–]Sandzibar 34 points35 points  (6 children)

Cannibalism is tight

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your references are out of control, everyone knows that.

[–]PHC_Tech_Recruiter 20 points21 points  (3 children)

WOWOWOW.. WOW~

[–]Redditforgoit 11 points12 points  (2 children)

So, do you have a restaurant script for me?

[–]PHC_Tech_Recruiter 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Yes sir I do.

We'll get the cast of Broken Lizard together and have them get into shenanigans at a restaurant that's owned by a former boxer, called the "Slammin' Salmon". Casting George Forman or Evander Holyfield would be too much so I think we go for another bulky, fit guy, like Michael Clark Duncan.

[–]BadIdeaShouldFeelBad 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Normal Tuesday night for Shia LaBeouf

[–]badpianist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actual cannibal

[–]CybillGrodin 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Just like Flesh (I think was the title) with Sebastian Stand on Hulu! It is good but felt kind of like it was made as 'What if he took the racial commentary of Get Out and made it but with sex commentary for women' instead of being completely its own thing

[–]billyskurp 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Fresh! close but I get you lol

[–]QLE814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was what I thought this was for a moment.....

[–]ScarletCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's when the cannibalism started...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we are running out of food

[–]CurrentRoster 34 points35 points  (1 child)

The Menu is the friends we made along the way

[–]ThanksForTheF-Shack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always a treat to have friends for dinner

[–]emezeekiel 11 points12 points  (6 children)

[–]KeathKeatherton 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Which begs the question:

If humans are allowed to live a full life and are only served as a dish once they die, what would be the difference from a normal fulfilling life?

Although, I’m sure the short story explains that humans are served as a dish mid way through life as to have ripe and engorged meat. But still I think this question has merit on it’s own.

[–]emezeekiel 14 points15 points  (3 children)

There’s a reason we don’t use people who die of old age as organ donors…

[–]threebillion6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Soylent green is people!?!

[–]foxontherox 7 points8 points  (2 children)

IT’S A COOKBOOK!

[–]capturedguy 8 points9 points  (1 child)

"How to cook for humans"

"How to cook four humans"

[–]Pickle_Rick01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Wait there’s still more space dust.”

“How to cook for four humans.”

[–]TurboCadaver 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Specially, it’s deez nuts.

[–]chronoboy1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might be going out on a limb here, but hear me out…….aliens.

[–]sylpher250 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just athlete foot skin shavings

[–]Snot_Milk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You guys are right, guessing the ‘twist’ will be the current guests will be killed after they eat for the next set of guests meal.

[–]ZombieFonzie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did get immediate Hannibal vibes from this pic.

[–]goldtubb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't, actually.

[–]Blue_Eyes_Nerd_Bitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yupp, either that or some species that was either specially created by this dude or thought to be extinct.

But definitely ppl, since it's easier to do that one and explain it.

[–]KeathKeatherton 6 points7 points  (6 children)

I’m betting dead babies, animal genitalia, and literal feces. Maybe even some insect delicacies. Followed by the patrons actually being on the Menu instead.

The rich eating the rich.

[–]CaptainPick1e 4 points5 points  (5 children)

"Babies taste best."

[–]KeathKeatherton 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Chris Evans, you sick fuck.

Edit: sick not suck

[–]-ORIGINAL- 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Tell me, how exactly do you suck a fuck?

[–]KeathKeatherton 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Fixed it

[–]-ORIGINAL- 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh man, I was making a reference to Donnie Darko which I thought you were doing as well.

[–]KeathKeatherton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lolololololol

[–]Zedab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's gotta be, but that also feels so unrewarding. I'm curious to see the execution.

[–]TheBigIdiotSalami 86 points87 points  (6 children)

It would be a twist if they were eating aliens.

[–]Juan_Kagawa 343 points344 points  (21 children)

Its people, they're eating people.

[–]jramos037 224 points225 points  (6 children)

Wrong. Rats are cooking the dishes. Rats that have been steamed in a dishwasher.

[–]SEND_ME_SPOON_PICS 64 points65 points  (3 children)

Hear me out, Rats are cooking people.

[–]uncultured_swine2099[🍰] 24 points25 points  (2 children)

The Ratatouille sequel got rather dark.

[–]TheBigMcTasty 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Ratatouille 2: Rat Strike Back

[–]PureLock33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emile: But, Remy, the humans didn't eat our father!

Remy: No, I ate our father!

Emile: No, no, that's not true! That's impossible!

Remy: Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

Emile: Non! Non! Non!

Remy: Emile, you can destroy the Michellin guide publishing company. It has foreseen this. It is your destiny.

[–]fallenKlNG 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Maybe raccoons instead of rats. Racacoonie anyone?

[–]Snapingbolts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rats? But that's a peasant dish!

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (1 child)

These green soy-lentil dishes are to die for!

[–]Singingmute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To Serve Man... It's a cookbook!

[–]aquaband 25 points26 points  (7 children)

I’ve read the screenplay. It’s not ppl.

[–]swankpoppy 12 points13 points  (2 children)

He just used the wrong punctuation. Should be: It’s people! They’re eating, people!

[–]LaverniusTucker 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Six foot tall man eating chicken

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just knowledge. They are eating the menu itself and learning how to cook.

[–]ReservoirDog316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good. Cooking people into food is so common nowadays and the only ones I could watch were Silence of the Lambs (if that counts since they don’t really cook them into food) and weirdly, Sweeney Todd. Basically everything else in that genre grosses me out too much to watch.

[–]GamingTatertotSteven Spielberg Enthusiast 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How and where?

[–]condormcninja 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Lot of big brain people here predicting that the movie with a plot synopsis that is very blatantly implying cannibalism, is about cannibalism.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Anya Taylor-Joy has the most interesting career right now.

[–]cumulonimubus 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Red Dragon II: The Cheffening

[–]uncultured_swine2099[🍰] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anya Taylor Joy, changing.

[–]flpndrds 209 points210 points  (65 children)

I like ATJ’s acting and she’s cute but why do I feel she’s on every fucking movie right now?

[–][deleted] 406 points407 points  (19 children)

Her and Florence Pugh are the Timothee Chalamet and Tom Holland of women

[–]lkodl 101 points102 points  (2 children)

I thought Anya Taylor Joy was the female Aaron Taylor Johnson

[–]itayfeder 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Probably the best comment i read all week

[–]Dickinmymouth1 107 points108 points  (0 children)

That is delightful news to me.

[–]SirGoldfish 21 points22 points  (2 children)

All that's left is those 4 to do a movie together

[–]QLE814 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About the game of contract bridge!

[–]JesusWasADemocrat 33 points34 points  (6 children)

No replace Holland with Adam driver. He was in three notable movies last year. And thomasin McKenzie is up there too.

[–]MikeMania 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I thought I recognized her in Power of the Dog, but her role was so insignificant that I was convinced it was only a lookalike.

[–]eunhadior 11 points12 points  (1 child)

florence has only been in little women, midsommar, and black widow since 2019 though? how is that a lot?

[–]TheeBarkKnight 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You missed six: Fighting with Your Family and In the Time it Takes to Get There were 2019, she did 3 things in 2020, and she was in Hawkeye this year

Edit: she also did four movies, one short, and one series in 2018

[–]MechTitan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is she? I had to look Pugh up. The only movie I know her from is black widow.

[–]theodo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Florence Pugh really isnt in very much stuff, its just basically always good. Same with Chalamet

[–][deleted] 175 points176 points  (9 children)

good actress, perfect age range, distinctive features, great agent, willingness to work non stop and to accept lead and supporting roles at varying budget levels.

[–]sean0883 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Also, I feel like COVID put a lot of projects on hold and are only just now coming out due to that. I don't think she's doing these movies all at once as much as they're coming out all at once. I could be wrong though, and probably am.

[–]routaHHH 37 points38 points  (8 children)

I've recently watched the Queen's gambit, The Northman and Peaky Blinders so yeah xD

Skipped New Mutants for obvious reason's :P

[–]Addictive_System 8 points9 points  (4 children)

How was the Northman? I’m going this Friday!

[–]routaHHH 19 points20 points  (3 children)

So the trailer I saw made It look like a non stop action viking movie... but its actually quite slow in parts. Great cinematography and the fight scenes do slap. If you like the directors past work you should be OK 😁

[–]sean0883 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Sound a lot like The Batman in regards to trailer v actual movie. Luckily, I was read up on it and expected it, but I can imagine others being disappointed.

[–]I_CAN_SMELL_U 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a Robert Eggers movie, not a comic book movie. A lot of people probably have the wrong idea.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

The New Mutants is a really bad movie but if you're on an Anya kick maybe give it a shot. She is - not surprisingly - the best part about it.

[–]PM_ME_CAKE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel The New Mutants is mediocre but hardly really bad. It's a shame that it got delayed a billion times into obsolecense given that, with the right marketing, it would have been basically the first major superhero movie that has a properly done gay/lesbian romance plot for its main character that doesn't take time away from the main plot at all. Like the movie isn't much to write home about but it could have been so much more.

[–]mattysmwift 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Poor girls has been in few movies in the past few years and we’re already on the “tear her down” phase of her career.

[–]rey1294 15 points16 points  (8 children)

Perhaps just a result of seeing The Northman promos? Because she hasn't really been in that many popular movies over the past couple of years.

[–]greenjacket23 12 points13 points  (7 children)

She has been in New Mutants, Queens Gambit, Last Night in Soho, Peaky Blinders, and The Northman since 2020. That seems like a pretty full plate for 2 years

[–]nayapapaya 27 points28 points  (5 children)

New Mutants and Last Night in Soho did pretty poorly at the box office (and The Northman isn't starting out too hot either) and I never hear anyone talk about her as part of Peaky Blinders. It may seem like she's everywhere if you are clued into film and television but I'm sure the average person only knows her as the girl from the Queen's Gambit if they know her at all. Don't blame an actress for trying to strike while the iron is hot, especially when good parts start drying up once you hit 35.

[–]rey1294 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yeah I like her so I was wondering what all content I was missing. The Queen's Gambit is probably really the only major thing she has been a part of recently. I thought I heard she doesn't have a major part in Peaky Blinders, but I may be wrong.

[–]ifollowsacula 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I am pretty sure people are also taking into consideration that she got cast as Princess Peach in the Mario movie and also young Furiosa in the "sequel" to Mad Max: Fury Road. Two lead roles in huge movies. I don't think you get those parts been just a girl from a popular show, I think she is definitely a "hot commodity" in Hollywood right now.

[–]rey1294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. Forgot about Furiosa and didn't know about Princess Peach. So it's more about movie announcements than seeing her in anything. She is definitely on the rise and like you said it isn't just based on Queen's Gambit. She has made a mark in films like The Witch, Thoroughbreds, Split and Emma, but I would say only two of those are really popular and it is over the course of 5 years.

[–]Ani_mrumru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You forgot to mention her in Eggers’ The Witch -- prob out of the two yr time period, but still -- building lots of momentum.

[–]thewomaninthemoon 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I like her but I wish Hollywood would realize that there are more than 5 young actresses in existence at any given time.

[–]geek_of_nature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They always do it though, a young actor has a big hit, and then every director wants to work with them. And of course a young actor isn't going to turn down all that work, especially with acclaimed directors coming their way.

But that just results in them being in too many films. It happened with Timothee Chalamet and Florence Pugh, and now it's happening with Anya Taylor Joy. Let's just hope they don't get burned out by it.

[–]DanWallace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because look at her

[–]Money-Librarian3330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because she deserves to be

[–]PureLock33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She mentioned in interviews that she is basically taking any good script sent her way. If she experiences exhaustion or burnout then she'd give herself a break.

She's been wanting to act since childhood and now she's an actress, so she's acting. a lot. No real mystery to it really.

[–]AWakefieldTwin 77 points78 points  (19 children)

I swear to Jeebus if she is playing the love interest to Ralph Fiennes....

[–]nayapapaya 99 points100 points  (14 children)

She is not. He's the chef. Her husband is played by Nicholas Hoult.

[–]EnterPlayerTwo 100 points101 points  (11 children)

I swear to Jeebus if Hoult is playing the love interest to Ralph Fiennes....

[–]phoenixphaerie 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Which doesn't necessarily rule out a romantic plot line between her character and Fiennes's.

Honestly, I will be shocked if there isn't a romantic plot between them. Hollywood loves nothing more than pairing fresh-faced youthful actresses with craggy, latter-middle aged men.

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I just watched some spy thriller movie where Michael Keaton was the love interest of Maggie Q. It came out like a year or two ago and he is 28 years older than her. So fucking obnoxious. Even moreso because he played a super physically capable action spy character.

I get we love our old action stars, but it's just getting super sad across the board.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched some spy thriller movie where Michael Keaton was the love interest of Maggie Q. It came out like a year or two ago and he is 28 years older than her. So fucking obnoxious. Even moreso because he played a super physically capable action spy character.

Are you saying a 70-year old couldn't go full Bourne?

[–]chronoboy1985 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s what we call “old school” film-making. You know. When Lolita was all the rage.

[–]WakeUpOutaYourSleep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair though, Ralph can still get it

[–]mickeyflinn 37 points38 points  (5 children)

hmm..

Mark Mylod, Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy. I will be checking this out.

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (2 children)

And written by writers from Last Week Tonight, Succession, and Comedy Bang Bang

[–]Dcottop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, sold.

[–]mickeyflinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow!! HELL YES!

[–]tomservo88 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Aimee Carrero

hey Adora…

[–]ValkriM8B 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Delicate and gorgeous, as always.

And Anya, too!

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (3 children)

This was actually a very good script. Looking forward to it.

[–]funkhero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's your thoughts on the change in celebrity guest? Looks like they landed John Leguizamo instead of Daniel Radcliffe.

[–]Craphole-Island 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow I thought ATJ was Emily VanCamp (EVC?) at first.

[–]Rohanaulouvre[🍰] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

she finally back to the red hair? suits her so well

[–]Bearded_Singer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a pea brained primitive male, my first (and primary) response to this photo was:

Sweet suffering Jesus Anya Taylor-Joy is hot 🔥🥵

[–]ChooseCorrectAnswer 5 points6 points  (1 child)

There are many comments here assuming the plot is about cannibalism. People asking for confirmation are getting joke responses. So, here is a serious answer: the chef in the movie serves a 7-course meal. The first couple courses are weird. The second is bread without bread: diners get butter, oil spread, and nothing where the bread should be. Yet the courses get weirder and weirder until the experience turns into horror and it eventually becomes clear the diners might not survive the night.

The script had Daniel Radcliffe playing himself as a celebrity who wants to experience this exclusive restaurant. However, it seems John Leguizamo is now filling that role.

Alexander Payne (Sideways, About Schmidt, Election) was originally set to direct The Menu, which is interesting because he usually writes his own screenplays. Payne must have been really taken with the script.

Lastly, I hope you all have a good day.

[–]spreedom 54 points55 points  (5 children)

Brunette ATJ 🥵

[–]movieman94 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Brunette ATJ 🥵

[–]PrimoDima 11 points12 points  (2 children)

She is a redhead in movie.

[–]mikemil50 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anyone else feeling super thirsty suddenly? Just me?

[–]PureLock33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lawda merci

[–]LucasDeTe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ATY is a godess

[–]narf_hots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The twist is it's not people.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I swear, every time I see a new picture of Anya, I wonder how any woman could possibly be that beautiful. Absolute fox.

[–]E8282 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where the hell does she find the time for all of this?! She’s in absolutely everything!

[–]bootsmade4Walken 17 points18 points  (9 children)

I feel like Anya Taylor-Joy is going to be the next Jennifer Lawrence to be shoved down cinema's throat...

[–]ToasterGER 47 points48 points  (1 child)

ain't got a problem with that

[–]Kallistrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People didn't mind it with Jennifer Lawrence until it became too much, too.

[–]thatminimumwagelife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

ATJ doesn't do as much press so she's not as exhausting. Her not doing franchises allows her to pick more interesting acting roles which gives her a nice variety rather than JL's repetitiveness.

[–]Higgus 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I don't know, I feel like Anya Taylor-Joy's somewhat more unique appearance allows her to take more 'out of the box' roles and her acting ability manages to really pull it off. Jennifer Lawrence plays Jennifer Lawrence with different makeup in most of her movies, which don't get me wrong, a lot of actors do (Clooney, Nicholson, Marky Mark, etc), but it's partly why people burned out on her. So unless Anya gets type cast and starts phoning it in, I don't see the same thing happening to her, for reasons mentioned earlier.

[–]TheGeekVault 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Also ATJ feels more reserved than Lawrence. I think part of Lawrence's downfall was that her PR team overdid it with the goofy relatable stuff and people grew suspicious. ATJ is pretty quiet in terms of publicity outside of her films.

[–]kerakk19 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Well, IMO ofc, Anya is a different league of skill. I like Jennifer, but I never thought she's a great actress, just a good one.

[–]uncultured_swine2099[🍰] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ATJ seems like shes better at disappearing into characters.

[–]shizzy1427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anya is a much better actress and so far has chosen far better projects to be a part of

[–]FrickinLazerBeams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God I hope so

[–]-Diegue- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought she was wearing a dress with a slice of pizza on it

[–]jaimonee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling it now: This is a remake of Eating Raoul

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0083869/

[–]JesusWasADemocrat 2 points3 points  (3 children)

How is she in every movie? Does she sleep

[–]thegoodstoday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She's incredibly popular right now, they'll accommodate her schedule if they want her in the film, which clearly everyone does.

[–]mikemil50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to investigate this question!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's talked about how she hadnt had a day off in like two years. Not sure if it's true anymore. I think she filmed three movies/projects literally back to back

[–]Significant_Sign 2 points3 points  (2 children)

When is this set? I had no idea negligees (?) were being worn as regular clothes again, is it set in the 00s?

[–]nayapapaya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're back. A friend of mine just did a photoshoot while traveling in a black one with a cute blazer over it.

[–]PantherEverSoPink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they've made a comeback.

Personally, I'd layer it somehow, but that's just me.

She must be absolutely freezing in that outfit though.

[–]strider85 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Literally the most beautiful woman in the world

[–]damndaniels2 3 points4 points  (1 child)

anaya taylor joy is a full course meal

[–]Antrikshy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch this be a spoiler for the movie.

[–]reissykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does she have the time to star in every movie currently releasing?

[–]suuubok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it looks like the menus back on the menu

[–]CleverName4269 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Why is she wearing lingerie while the men are normally dressed? (Well, for chefs anyways)
