Passionate views are understandable however, discussion of individuals or groups must not be abusive, vitriolic, victim blame or use derogatory nicknames.

Moderators may use discretion in enforcing rules to ensure debate is consistent with the purpose of the subreddit.
Do not add your own heading or make your summary in the heading. Please express your personal opinion in the comments, not the submission title. For simplicity, just use the heading that the news article already has.
News and analysis posts need to be substantial; demonstrate journalistic values, and encourage or facilitate discussion. Links to articles with minimal text will be removed. Links to videos without context or transcripts will be removed unless a substantial public interest can be demonstrated. Opinion posts that are toxic; insulting; fact-free; cheerleading, or soapboxing will be removed. Greater leeway is given to political figures in this regard. This is judged at the mod's discretion.
Post replies need to be substantial and represent good-faith participation in discussion. Comments need to demonstrate genuine effort at high quality communication of ideas.
Participation is more than merely contributing.
Comments that contain little or no effort; are otherwise toxic; exist only to be insulting, cheerleading, or soapboxing will be removed.
This is judged at the full discretion of the mods.
The report function is only for alerting subreddit moderators to spam and inappropriate content which breaks the subreddit rules, and NOT a super-downvote button
Please also give moderators time to asses the report.
Reporting something does not a guarantee that something will be done - moderators may decide no further action is required after reviewing a user submitted report.
As a general guide, political posts must directly involve any of the following:
-Political parties
-Politicians
-New Bills/Policy
-Departments
Posts not based on Australian politics, and comments that are off topic from the subject matter of the original post will also be removed at the full discretion of the mod team
Posts containing satire, memes, comics, and links to social media will be removed.
We do however allow them to be posted into the "Weekly Discussion Threads".
Submissions or comments complaining about the subreddit, user biases, moderation decisions , or individual users of here or other subreddits will be removed and may result in a ban. This is not a meta subreddit. Please use r/MetaAuspol for that.
If you have any issues about moderation or the subreddit, some questions or suggestions then please just message the moderators.
reddit has its own rules and a content policy that every subreddit must abide by.
You should get acquainted with them.
Articles from paywalled sites or sites with "X" number of free articles per month should be linked to directly, and full article text provided in the comments. Full credit to the author and publication should be given.
Newscorp, Fairfax and Swartz Media articles must have their contents posted with proper attribution. ABC, Guardian and Sky News do not require their contents to be posted as they do not have a paywall.
All other publications must have their paywall content provided.
If you want to promote any political material such as podcasts, social media, petitions, questionnaires, or surveys etc then please use the weekly discussion thread found at the top of the front page.
Please contact the mods if you have any issues, or think your link deserves an exemption to this ruling.
When commenting stick to the topic found in the original post. Do not shift the topic onto other subjects.
For example:
Shifting discussion towards character attacks of people
Meta subreddit complaints
Low effort complaining about sources you disagree with, insulting the publication or trying to shame users for posting sources you disagree with is not acceptable. Either address the post in question, or ignore it.
Submissions on topics already being discussed must add new developments to the story. If not you will be asked to post your submission in the stickied “Weekly Discussion Thread” at the top of the front page or if you wish you can post it in an active thread that already covers the topic.
