A+'s are so stupid. by Slight_Ad_6633 in lawschooladmissions

My alma mater is pretty obvious from my post history.

If you want proof, go check out vagrades.com and see what the grades distributions were for 2020 fall contracts.

Vastly different distributions, but all curved to about a 3.4

That’s not quite how it works. Professors (at least at my school) had rules/criteria about what the curve had to be around, but some professors gave tons of B+ and a couple A/B-, whereas as others gave a bunch of A/A- and B/B- along with B+.

Both methods end up with a curve centered at B+ as per school policy, but vastly different potential outcomes.

I’m sure some schools have curve distributions more rigorously prescribed, but I can tell you that isn’t the case for at least 1 T14

Yeah it’s the joy of having assigned classes with professors that have large discretion in grading policy.

Basically if you get a bunch of profs who have a realllly wide curve in 1L you’re almost doomed to be basically at median. If you get profs with much tighter curves that give out a bunch above and below median grades at least you have a shot at doing pretty well

I’m freaking out a little about exams. How do I study for law school exams? I thought I did well but got my first grade back & it was below average. Are law school exams memorization of my outline, watching lessons online, & doing online practice hypos? by Classy_Lady97 in LawSchool

[–]FrozenPhilosopher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Learning is really quite individual to the person, but I found the best way was to get my hands on past outlines, become familiar with those, and drill practice questions/exams and study model answers to learn what the prof asks generally and what they think is a good answer. Caveat here is to make sure the outlines and practice questions are from your professors class - it’s not worth your time to study a general commercial outline or generic questions. You want past exams and past outlines. The professor themselves, and older students/student org test banks are the way to get these

I wouldn’t waste time on rote memorization (save that for the bar) - law school exams are overwhelmingly about your ability to apply concepts from class to new facts, not ability to regurgitate what the law is.

FWIW I absolutely bombed my first mid-term/evaluation in 1L and graduated Order of the Coif at a T14

Just wait until 1L where your section doesn’t get any of the professors that give out A+‘s, while other sections get multiple who do, so you have no shot at being top of the class

Aaaaand arguably short bench leagues are more competitive because you have to actually make strategic personnel decisions instead of hoovering up every random ‘sleeper’ possibility

Clearly she was just ‘top of mind’…you know like how everyone always forgets that people are dead at funerals and wakes memorializing said dead people because the deceased are ‘top of mind’

Serious question OP: what exactly would have made you happy Re: the Dean of DEI? You say he didn’t do enough because he saw that black students were upset and didn’t ‘gather you all up’ to talk….talk about what exactly? What exactly is he going to say that you haven’t already heard? Do you just want someone to listen to you be upset? What could he have done that would have been ‘enough’?

By that logic any school in America has a deep history of racism since the country was basically built on the backs of slaves.

Yo is this the guy that makes a new account every couple of weeks and makes unsubstantiated hate claims about UVA?

Last account he was super anti-Semitic and racist towards Asians.

It seems like you probably should have retaken and recycled if you wanted a better scholly

Odd question but How competitive are grade curves at T30 schools? by FemmeDe-LaFemme in LawSchool

[–]FrozenPhilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally dependent on the school and professor. There is not cookie cutter answer.

I would tend to expect that grade curves are less competitive to get median at top schools though. They’re mostly ungraded or curve to a 3.3, and most people end up graduating with slightly higher than that as the curve floats up after 1L

It’s gonna be Zeus robe. Gives you 3 turns of invulnerability.

So you stack that with the ‘block killing blow’ power up, then have butterfly on cooldown, then use artifacts to double use octopus. Can easily do 18-19 rounds without Zeus, but Zeus is automatic free extra 3 rounds
