    I had a chance to check out Maui Kuʻia Estate Chocolate, Lāhainā’s “farm-to-bar” chocolate makers, which sits on the Kuʻia ahupuaʻa. We discussed their commitment to our local community and their promise to give back 100% net profits to Maui non-profits.

    In 1976, Daniel Kahikina Akaka became the first Native Hawaiian to represent Hawaiʻi in Congress since statehood. Eight years later at the age of 10, I stood on the steps of our nation’s Capitol for the first time with him as my Member of Congress. (1/3)
