More than 17,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats in 2021, that’s double the number for all of 2020.
The UK government has threatened to withhold millions of pounds in funding from the French authorities unless they intercept more vessels carrying migrants.
But the French commander in charge of coastal operations in the Pas-de-Calais region has accused the British of ingratitude and said he will withdraw his patrols if UK money is withheld.

People in the United Kingdom should buy petrol as usual, Environment Minister George Eustice said on Monday, adding there was no shortage of fuel but problems were being caused by consumers panic buying fuel they didn't need.
He also said Britain has no plans yet to get the army to drive trucks to deliver fuel to petrol stations after a shortage of drivers strained supply chains.
The minister said conditions needed to be improved for long-distance truck drivers.
Up to 90% of British fuel stations ran dry across major English cities on Monday.
A dire post-Brexit shortage of lorry drivers emerging after the COVID-19 pandemic has sown chaos through British supply chains in everything from food to fuel, raising the spectre of disruptions and price rises in the run up to Christmas.
Meanwhile, cars could be seen queuing outside fuel stations in London on Sunday night.

People in the United Kingdom should buy petrol as usual, Environment Minister George Eustice said on Monday, adding there was no shortage of fuel but problems were being caused by consumers panic buying fuel they didn't need. He also said Britain has no plans yet to get the army to drive trucks to deliver fuel to petrol stations after a shortage of drivers strained supply chains. People in the United Kingdom should buy petrol as usual, Environment Minister George Eustice said on Monday, adding there was no shortage of fuel but problems were being caused by consumers panic buying fuel they didn't need.
He also said Britain has no plans yet to get the army to drive trucks to deliver fuel to petrol stations after a shortage of drivers strained supply chains.
The minister said conditions needed to be improved for long-distance truck drivers.
Up to 90% of British fuel stations ran dry across major English cities on Monday.
A dire post-Brexit shortage of lorry drivers emerging after the COVID-19 pandemic has sown chaos through British supply chains in everything from food to fuel, raising the spectre of disruptions and price rises in the run up to Christmas.
Meanwhile, cars could be seen queuing outside fuel stations in London on Sunday night.

The United Kingdom is experiencing fuel supply issues resulting from a shortage of experienced truck drivers who can deliver fuel to retail stations. CNN's Nina dos Santos reports from London and CNN’s Eleni Giokos speaks with Lorenzo Zaccheo, Managing Director at Alcaline UK.

cloudBuy (formerly @UK plc) is an e-procurement company specialising in spend analysis and company formation, headquartered in Aldermaston, England. It provides integration, purchase-to-pay and spend analysis to a number of British public sector organisations. @UK plc has formed over 200,000 companies, for many of which it provides hosting and generated websites.
@UK plc is the only company in the UK to provide automated spend analysis at item-level detail. This came about through a three-year research collaboration with the University of Reading and Goldsmiths College,London.
In May 2006, @UK plc acquired Coding International, a coding provider that has developed the National Supplier Vocabulary (NSV) for identifying functionally unique purchases.
On 7 October 2010, Richard Benyon, the Minister for the Natural Environment and Fisheries launched its green marketplace. This is a B2B marketplace, whose products have carbon footprints, allowing for purchasers to offset their carbon. It is the largest B2B marketplace in the UK, with over a million users.
