Objectum-Sexuality International defines objectum as “the ability to love objects.” Basically, objectum (or objectum sexuality (OS)) is when a person has the ability to experience attraction towards objects. These objects could be anything: buildings, cars, toys, books - famously there was an objectum woman who married the Eiffel Tower.
There’s also
Conceptum-: Attraction to concepts. Can be attraction to representations of a concept, or to the concept itself, as well as other possible variations. Adjacent to/part of the objectum spectrum.
I know some people are attracted to things like songs, but I’m not sure if songs fall under conceptum or objectum, or both?

When you only feel attraction to stuffed animals that you see as extensions of yourself/that you are an extension of them due to neurodivergence, namely difficulty in expressing empathy, or empathy deficits, such as in NPD/ASPD/Autism and extreme attachment and desire to be engulfed by a depended/favourite toy, such as in BPD/DPD. Anyone neurodivergent person with this symptom can use it, though.

For OS people, loving an object is not a ‘fetish’, it’s a deep, emotional connection just like in any other relationship. There are some people who use objects for sexual reasons such as fetishes but these people are not OS, they simply have a fetish.
2. Objectum-sexual people just can’t find the right human/are only OS because they get rejected by people.
For OS people, loving an object comes as naturally to them as loving a human does to you! In many cases, OS people do get rejected by humans simply because human partners do not understand what it is like to be OS, being rejected is not the ‘cause’ of Objectum-sexuality.
3. Objectum-sexuality only exists because of trauma/neurological diseases.
Again, most find this to be untrue. Although there is a high number of neuroatypical people in the OS community, there are many instances where an OS person is neurotypical and has experienced no trauma.
4. Objectum sexuals are unable to have human relationships!
For many OS people, this is the case! Some OS people don’t experience any sexual or romantic attraction to people at all! However, for a lot of OS people it is equally concieveable and fulfilling to have a human partner. I know people who have been happily married with a human for years and are also in a relationship with an object!
5. All Objectum Sexuals are polyamorous or unfaithful.
Again, this all depends on the person. I’d say the majority of OS people are also polyamorous, but there are some people who like to stay exclusively faithful to one object (such as yours truly!) there is absolutely no shame in having one or more partners, be they object or human!
6. Objectum sexual people are crazy!
No.
7. Objectum sexual people are doing it for the attention!
If it were open, accepted and easy to be OS, then I would consider this valid, but the amount of pain, hiding, abuse and invalidation that OS people get is just so overwhelming that any ‘attention-seekers’ would be rooted out.
8. Objectum sexual people only fall in love with public objects/nice looking objects.
Of course people fall in love with aesthetically pleasing objects, it’s just human nature! However, not all OS people fall in love with public or conventionally beautiful objects. There are people who are in love with toilets, guillotines, fences, just about anything you can think of!
9. OS people are just lonely/should be pitied
No! OS people live full, happy lives with their partners just like everyone else! If someone comes out to you as OS, you should take this as a huge compliment as they trust you enough to tell you! Please support your OS friend but never, ever patronise them!
10. It’s just not natural!
Of course it’s natural! There have been so many OS people throughout history, dating back to Ancient Greece with Pygmalion, who fell in love with a statue that he carved and Quasimodo from the Hunchback of Notre Dame was said to have been in love with the cathedrals’ bells. It’s just like any other sexuality!
