                    Parking fines

So that people can have equal access to the limited supply of on-street parking, the City of Melbourne encourages a regular turnover of parking bays using a combination of different parking signage.

To ensure compliance, we also enforce parking restrictions and issue parking fines to non-compliant vehicles. City of Melbourne parking officers encourage voluntary compliance by drivers – this means that when a driver is with their vehicle, they are typically given an opportunity to move before a parking fine is issued.

If you do not comply with a request made by a parking officer within a reasonable time, you may receive a parking fine. You will need to pay the fine, apply for an internal review, or elect to have the matter heard at the Magistrates’ Court by the due date. Otherwise, you will incur further costs.

                    Penalty amounts

For the 2019-20 financial year, fines range from $83 to $165 depending on the offence.

Fine values are set by the State Government and increase annually. The City of Melbourne can’t vary or reduce these penalty amounts.
