    As vacation draws to an end I am blessed to love & be loved by a family I adore & grateful for the work I do as a journalist & sharply aware what happens on Twitter rarely reflects anything I find in daily life as mother/daughter/grandmother or as a reporter covering our country

    I found a note in the snow from my son in my front yard after he & Barry the Bassador drove off just now for their drive back to Colorado; I am both wrecked yet proud that he has found his place in the world & is happy & confident pursuing his place.

    I love this story so much

    Can I do a sappy New Year’s Eve post about where I was ten years ago? Yes? Good. It may take a while to finish because I’m juggling a lot of kids, including one with scarlet fever (!). But here goes. This is me the day after New Year’s Day, ten years ago.

    We should be grateful -- while we celebrate the New Year in peace at home -- that Marines were instantly on call and are even now landing in Baghdad to protect American lives at risk. Their New Year's Day will be starkly different than ours. God bless them.

    The 2010s were pretty good to me. Moved to and away from D.C. (both good moves). Got a job in Oct 2010 that turned into a career I like. Built a house with the love of my life. Oh, right, the love of my life:
