    Holy cats, friends! Someone just donated the last $500 we needed to cover all the costs for this letter-writing campaign. Thank you, anonymous friend! Shouting thanks into the ether to you💜🏹That's a lot of stamps!

    hi!! tonight i'm writing holiday letters for and i just learned that the stamp cost for this campaign is only half covered! one set of stamps costs $9; i'm gonna cover me + one other person for $18. it's hanukkah, 18 is a holy number, do a mitzvah:

    We are seriously impressed that more than half of you chose the correct answer: DICTIONARIES! Surveys show that up to 25% of our letters contain a request for a dictionary, making it consistently our #1 request and also a book that we rarely manage to keep in stock. Can you help?

    "Incarcerated people deserve the same level of protection and concern as every other person in our community. ... When we fail to protect people in DOC custody, we are working against our own collective self-interest." I can't believe we need to keep saying this, but we do.

    this note really has me feeling some type of way... this person got out of prison and one of the first things they did is try to right this (v minor) wrong. very sweet and thoughtful aside - I want more librarians to read about prison abolition:

    Absolutely this. One of our volunteers recently joined an awesome jail librarian and other prison book program volunteers to write about the need for librarians to broaden their fights into (and against) carceral facilities:

    A person was removed from their community for 14 years and one of their first acts was to square up with their local library. As an organization whose mission is to keep access inside prisons for people who love and need books, this is a very bittersweet note to consider.

    This is an issue that we, as Allegheny County residents, need to actively engage with. Public outcry helped somewhat with the book issue that came up recently, but conditions at the jail are still far from humane. We can make an impact.

    "There are currently 77 county medical employees at the county jail. As of Dec. 1, there were 43 medical vacancies at the facility, including top management positions like health services administrator and director of nursing."

    Reminiscent of when a Washington prison handed people in solitary confinement a list of oh-so-helpful tips including "plant a tree" and "go on a picnic":

    JPay lets you attach cards like these, saying "every day is the right time to become amazing," which is also a fun thing to send to someone who is locked in prison as COVID runs rampant

    One more reason why tablets aren't an appropriate substitute for access to physical books.

    A couple calls from 2D tonight. One friend broke his tablet & ACJ is charging him $300 for it, so any $ put on his books go to that. Disgusting. If you are up to paying that debt can walk you through the process on connectnetwork/help us do so @ c*sh*pp: $jailbreakpgh.

    Hi Marjorie! We partnered with to send voter registration documents and info to people in GA jails ahead of the runoff election. Almost everyone in jail — like those waiting to go on trial or convicted of a misdemeanor — can vote!

    Hey Brad ! Explain to me why applications for absentee ballots are being sent to jails??? Those absentee ballot applications have your name on it, so I thought I’d ask you first. we have a problem.
