Disadvantaged Australians more vulnerable to legal problems
New analysis of the LAW Survey shows that there is a clear association between people's level of disadvantage and their ability to resolve their legal problems. Legal assistance services policy must continue to focus on disadvantaged people in our community. See Resolving legal problems: the role of disadvantage

New planning tool for Aboriginal Legal Service
The Foundation has developed a new database for the Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Ltd to assist with planning their Criminal Law Practice services. Criminal Court statistics on finalised matters with Aboriginal defendants were sourced from BOCSAR to develop a proxy to indicate potential demand for ALS services in NSW. read more

Landmark report on Land and Environment Court
A new study of NSW Land and Environment Court cases showing who uses the court and for what purpose has been released by the Foundation. Data insights in civil justice: NSW Land and Environment Court is the eighth report in the series, which also includes reports on the Local Court, District Court and NCAT, commissioned by the Department of Justice NSW in 2016.

Indigenous people and legal problem resolution
Using LAW Survey data, our new paper Indigenous people and legal problem resolution finds that Indigenous Australians, particularly those who are multiply disadvantaged, are significantly more likely to have unresolved crime problems than non-Indigenous Australians.

DVU study to inform roll out
Launched on 28 February, a process evaluation conducted by the Law and Justice Foundation examines the early implementation of the Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) set up by Legal Aid NSW in January 2016. See media release

2018 Collaborative Planning Resource release
The 2018 Collaborative Planning Resource (CPR) is now available. The latest CPR uses 2016 ABS Census data and includes data on the Need for Legal Assistance Service (NLAS) indicators which provide a count of the distribution of potential need for not-for-profit legal assistance services.
