Love
In philosophical context, love is a virtue representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affection.
Plato's Symposium is an ancient discussion of the nature of love, and Kierkegaard's 'Either/Or' is largely about erotic desire, while Augustine's Confessions expounds love in Christianity. Love is discussed in a more general religious context in James - Varieties of Religious Experience.
Philosophical discussions of the mental aspect of love occur in Hobbes - Leviathan and in Plato - The Republic, and in the more general meaning of 'virtue' in Aristotle - Ethics.
