Summary
The ergological approach intends to the co-production of knowledge with the aim of transforming work and more generally the social life. As stated by the scientific project of the Workshop, “the ergological approach, in its history and in its issues, is a priori a subject of interest for everyone, each exploring in its own way the intricacies of human life, but also anyone who wants to think about its own activity and that of others, to reconsider the ways of doing and taking action, of opening new perspectives in ways of working, acting and living”. Yet this approach, which is particularly needed nowadays, is insufficiently known and sometimes considered complex. This is the state of play at the origin of this international workshop for which this call for papers is published.

The ergological approach intends to the co-production of knowledge with the aim of transforming work and more generally the social life.
As stated by the scientific project of the Workshop,
“The ergological approach, in its history and in its issues, is a priori a subject of interest for everyone, each exploring in its own way the intricacies of human life, but also anyone who wants to think about its own activity and that of others, to reconsider the ways of doing and taking action, of opening new perspectives in ways of working, acting and living”.
Yet this approach, which is particularly needed nowadays, is insufficiently known and sometimes considered complex. This is the state of play at the origin of this international workshop for which this call for papers is published.
There is no such thing as “those who know” on the one side and “those who do” on the other. Nothing can be understood about human life (work activity, everyday life activity, research activity, art activity, intervention activity, union activity, political activity, learning activity...) without
questioning the comfortable separation between “Experience” and “Knowledge” of work and of society*. Each brings both knowledge and experience that we need to encourage the encounter.
From the moment the preparation starts, organizers wish to strongly encourage attendees to seize the opportunity to meet and discuss beyond what will be shown during the event. New forms of communication can be thought up in order to meet the challenge of broadcasting, or appropriating as well as debating about the ergological approach. We would like to see the ongoing preparation of the workshop push forward to make this intention well understood and well shared with the aim of opening our ideas up and inspiring our imagination.
Topic proposals
The subjects of the contributions could be:
- To promote the ergological approach, its achievements, particularly in the scope of work, its original field of interest
- To speak about its history, about its conditions of apparition, about its development
- To mention some of the difficulties encountered, some of the encouraging progress
- To draw comparisons between the ergological approach and other perspectives with which the discussion should consequently be developed further
- To state some essential questions, some trajectory changes if existing, some unexpected extensions
We do welcome all of the topic areas and there is no doubt that the scope of work will be largely represented. The proposals to this call for papers will partly come from the network of those who know the ergological approach and make it work in their professional ties, according to their particular activities and their mode of appropriating those concepts and practices. In the same time, some reports and experience of other approaches having the same concerns for the coproduction of knowledge are also expected.
Submission guidelines
The selected contributions would have any of the following non-exclusive outcomes, with the agreement of the authors:
- An oral communication during the workshop
- A publication on the workshop blog, whether these include video and audio documents, papers or other forms of expression
- A distribution in the form of a printed article during the workshop, separately or in a special record
The speeches delivered at the workshop should be as far as possible in a form that shows in itself an exercise of coproduction, namely:
- An intervention in tandem (or more) involving points of view of different actors (from professional standpoint, field of interest or experience with the ergological approach, etc.)
- A dialogical-like intervention
- An intervention drawing up a summary of the main discussions brought during the preparation of the workshop (for example: what produces the deployment of the ergological approach within the adult training program? Which link between ergology and social philosophy?)
The oral contributions won’t exceed 20 minutes, but could be accompanied by supports completing the statement. Those supports may be released at any other moment of the workshop.
A preliminary program will be established in June based on the received proposals, mixing up topics, forms, and speakers.
