VICSES has a primary role in managing emergencies caused by floods, storms and earthquakes. It has a critical role in the provision of road accident rescue. It also provides support services to other agencies under Victoria's emergency management arrangements.
As part of that role, VICSES delivers training and public awareness programs on the principles and practices of emergency management.
As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), VICSES strives to provide high quality training that meets industry needs.
Introduction to Emergency Management course
Introduction to Emergency Management (PUAEMR018A - Working in an emergency management context) is a competency based training course conducted by VICSES.
This hands-on course is delivered over two days with a mixture of theory and practical scenario activities. Participants who complete this course will be issued with nationally recognised unit of competency from the Public Safety Training Package.
Aim
The aim of the program is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills of the emergency management roles and responsibilities of relevant Government and community agencies in Victoria. The program also assists in familiarisation with the general concepts and structure of emergency management.
On completion of this program the participant should be able to apply these broad principles of emergency management to their workplace.

- Emergency response
- Emergency relief and recovery
Who can attend?
Anyone with emergency management responsibilities in private organisations, government, statutory authorities, volunteer and community organisations, and emergency service organisations.
Course fee
IEM course fees have increased, effective as of 01 January 2016, resulting from an internal review conducted in 2015.
A subsidised rate of $256.00 (inc GST) per person is charged for representatives from designated emergency management agencies listed in Part 7 of the Emergency Management Manual Victoria (EMMV). VICSES staff can confirm if your organisation is listed by contacting emp@ses.vic.gov.au or a staff member in your region.
A commercial rate of $586.00 (inc GST) per person is charged to participants from all other organisations or agencies.
Refund policy
Organisation-initiated refund: If VICSES cancel a course, a full refund of the fees will be given or transfer to another course will be provided.
Participant-initiated refund: A full refund will be given if notification of withdraw is given no less than 24 hours before the course starts.
Refunds will not be granted automatically. VICSES reserves the right to charge agencies/organisations for participants that cancel within 24 hours or do not attend without giving notice.
