In today's video I re-review an old favourite. The Christmas before last I sold my 104 to give the final push in funds needed to purchase another grail aviation watch. Despite my rave review of the Sinn, at the time it seemed right to let something go in order to get the Breitling Navitimer I had always dreamed about. A week ago I was offered a trade I could not refuse and fate has returned the 104 into my possession. This German made pilots automatic watch embodies everything Sinn is renowned for. At an affordable price tag, practical features, robust and made to a luxury standard, it punches way above it weight. For this and many more reasons I deemed it the "perfect everyday watch". But the question remains, do I still believe in that statement I made over a year and many watches later?

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Hans-Werner Sinn sprach auf Einladung von Prof. Dr. Gunther Schnabl am 20. Juni 2017 an der Universität in Leipzig im Rahmen der "Leipziger Wirtschaftspolitischen Gespräche". Das Thema: "Europa in der Krise".
In seinem Vortrag setzt sich Hans-Werner Sinn kritisch mit einer zentralisierten Europäischen Union auseinander. Er erklärt, warum die Europäische Union - in ihrer jetzigen Form - keine Zukunft haben wird. Die EU Verträge müssten neu verhandelt werden, weil sich nach dem Austritt des Vereinigten Königsreichs die Mehrheiten im Europäischen Rat zugunsten der Südländer verschieben werden. „Und sie werden es auch ", so Sinn.
Hans-Werner Sinn kritisiert auch die Geldpolitik der Europäischen Zentralbank. Die EZB kauft seit Beginn 2015 in riesigem Umfang Wertpapiere. Bis Ende dieses Jahres werden es Wertpapiere für 2300 Milliarden Euro sein, davon für 1800 Milliarden Euro Staatsanleihen und für 500 Milliarden private Wertpapiere wie Unternehmensanleihen. Das sei viel Geld. Sein Vergleich: 1800 Milliarden hätten 600 Transrapid-Strecken vom Münchner Flughafen zum Münchner Hauptbahnhof gekostet. Das Wertpapierankaufprogramm (Quantitative Easing) der Europäischen Zentralbank sei eine gewaltige Umschuldungsaktion zugunsten überschuldeter Euro-Länder und gehe zu Lasten der deutschen Bürger.
Hans-Werner Sinn ist emeritierter Professor der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Er war von 1999 – 2016 Präsident des ifo Instituts für Wirtschaftsforschung. Er gründete und leitete das internationale Forschernetzwerk CESifo. In den letzten Jahren beschäftigte er sich vor allem mit dem Euro, Griechenland, der europäischen Geldpolitik (TARGET-Salden), grüner Energie, der Demographie und der Migration. Zuvor hatte er sich der deutschen Wiedervereinigung, dem Steuerwesen, der Bankenregulierung und dem Versicherungswesen gewidmet. Hans-Werner Sinn ist einer der einflussreichsten Ökonomen in Deutschland und Europa.

Sense and reference
Sinn and Bedeutung are usually translated, respectively, as sense and reference. Two different aspects of some terms' meanings, a term's reference is the object to which the term refers, while the term's sense is the way that the term refers to that object.
Sinn and Bedeutung were introduced by German philosopher and mathematician Gottlob Frege in his 1892 paper "Über Sinn und Bedeutung" ("On sense and reference"). Frege applied Bedeutung mainly to proper names and, in lesser extent, to sentences.
Though the distinction resides in philosophy of language, it enters philosophy's other areas, including philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and metaethics.
Motivation for and development of the distinction
Frege's distinction rejects a view put forth by John Stuart Mill, according to which a proper name has no meaning above and beyond the object to which it refers (its referent or reference). That is, the word "Aristotle" just means Aristotle, that person, and no more. It does not mean "The writer of De Anima." Hence, the sentence Aristotle was Greek says only that that person was Greek. It does not say that the writer of De Anima was Greek. That is, it permits that Aristotle might not have written De Anima. More generally, for any given proposition about Aristotle, one can use the name without believing that proposition to be true of Aristotle.

Hans-Werner Sinn
Hans-Werner Sinn (born March 7, 1948) is a German economist and President of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research and serves on the German economy ministry’s advisory council. He is Professor of Economics and Public Finance at the University of Munich.
Education and career
After studying economics at the University of Münster from 1967 to 1972 and receiving his doctorate from the University of Mannheim in 1978, Sinn was awarded the venia legendi in 1983, also from the University of Mannheim.

Watch
A watch is a small timepiece intended to be carried or worn by a person. It is designed to keep working despite the motions caused by the person's activities. A wristwatch is designed to be worn on a wrist, attached by a watch strap or other type of bracelet. A pocket watch is designed for a person to carry in a pocket.
Watches evolved in the 17th century from spring-powered clocks, which appeared as early as the 14th century. The first watches were strictly mechanical, driven by clockwork. As technology progressed, mechanical devices, used to control the speed of the watch, were largely superseded by vibrating quartz crystals that produce accurately timed electronic pulses. Some watches use radio clock technology to regularly correct the time. The first digital electronic watch was developed in 1970.
Most inexpensive and medium-priced watches, used mainly for timekeeping, are electronic watches with quartz movements. Expensive collectible watches, valued more for their elaborate craftsmanship, aesthetic appeal and glamorous design than for simple timekeeping, often have purely mechanical movements and are powered by springs, even though these movements are generally less accurate and more expensive than electronic ones. Various extra features, called "complications", such as moon-phase displays and the different types of tourbillon, are sometimes included. Modern watches often display the day, date, month and year, and electronic watches may have many other functions. Time-related features such as timers, chronographs and alarm functions are common. Some modern designs incorporate calculators, GPS and Bluetooth technology or have heart-rate monitoring capabilities. Watches incorporating GPS receivers use them not only to determine their position. They also receive and use time signals from the satellites, which make them essentially perfectly accurate timekeepers, even over long periods of time.

The Sinn 104 St Sa I is a great little mechanical timepiece, reviewed here on the H-Link Sinn Bracelet. It's got Day and Date complications, and a deeply legible face. It's also a beautiful object, with a great case and bracelet, and with fit-and-finish in line with watches twice the price. So, it's clearly a gem. Unfortunately, it's also pretty pricy, and you get the reduced accuracy and increased fragility of a mechanical movement. So, although it's a gem of a mechanical watch, unless you're in love with spinning wheels and rotors and gears, this may not be the best functional timepiece for you. In today's video I re-review an old favourite. The Christmas before last I sold my 104 to give the final push in funds needed to purchase another grail aviation watch. Despite my rave review of the Sinn, at the time it seemed right to let something go in order to get the Breitling Navitimer I had always dreamed about. A week ago I was offered a trade I could not refuse and fate has returned the 104 into my possession. This German made pilots automatic watch embodies everything Sinn is renowned for. At an affordable price tag, practical features, robust and made to a luxury standard, it punches way above it weight. For this and many more reasons I deemed it the "perfect everyday watch". But the question remains, do I still believe in that statement I made over a year and many watches later?...

In today's video I re-review an old favourite. The Christmas before last I sold my 104 to give the final push in funds needed to purchase another grail aviation watch. Despite my rave review of the Sinn, at the time it seemed right to let something go in order to get the Breitling Navitimer I had always dreamed about. A week ago I was offered a trade I could not refuse and fate has returned the 104 into my possession. This German made pilots automatic watch embodies everything Sinn is renowned for. At an affordable price tag, practical features, robust and made to a luxury standard, it punches way above it weight. For this and many more reasons I deemed it the "perfect everyday watch". But the question remains, do I still believe in that statement I made over a year and many watches later?

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Hans-Werner Sinn sprach auf Einladung von Prof. Dr. Gunther Schnabl am 20. Juni 2017 an der Universität in Leipzig im Rahmen der "Leipziger Wirtschaftspolitischen Gespräche". Das Thema: "Europa in der Krise".
In seinem Vortrag setzt sich Hans-Werner Sinn kritisch mit einer zentralisierten Europäischen Union auseinander. Er erklärt, warum die Europäische Union - in ihrer jetzigen Form - keine Zukunft haben wird. Die EU Verträge müssten neu verhandelt werden, weil sich nach dem Austritt des Vereinigten Königsreichs die Mehrheiten im Europäischen Rat zugunsten der Südländer verschieben werden. „Und sie werden es auch ", so Sinn.
Hans-Werner Sinn kritisiert auch die Geldpolitik der Europäischen Zentralbank. Die EZB kauft seit Beginn 2015 in riesigem Umfang Wertpapiere. Bis Ende dieses Jahres werden es Wertpapiere für 2300 Milliarden Euro sein, davon für 1800 Milliarden Euro Staatsanleihen und für 500 Milliarden private Wertpapiere wie Unternehmensanleihen. Das sei viel Geld. Sein Vergleich: 1800 Milliarden hätten 600 Transrapid-Strecken vom Münchner Flughafen zum Münchner Hauptbahnhof gekostet. Das Wertpapierankaufprogramm (Quantitative Easing) der Europäischen Zentralbank sei eine gewaltige Umschuldungsaktion zugunsten überschuldeter Euro-Länder und gehe zu Lasten der deutschen Bürger.
Hans-Werner Sinn ist emeritierter Professor der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Er war von 1999 – 2016 Präsident des ifo Instituts für Wirtschaftsforschung. Er gründete und leitete das internationale Forschernetzwerk CESifo. In den letzten Jahren beschäftigte er sich vor allem mit dem Euro, Griechenland, der europäischen Geldpolitik (TARGET-Salden), grüner Energie, der Demographie und der Migration. Zuvor hatte er sich der deutschen Wiedervereinigung, dem Steuerwesen, der Bankenregulierung und dem Versicherungswesen gewidmet. Hans-Werner Sinn ist einer der einflussreichsten Ökonomen in Deutschland und Europa.

It's also a beautiful object, with a great case and bracelet, and with fit-and-finish in line with watches twice the price. So, it's clearly a gem.
Unfortunately, it's also pretty pricy, and you get the reduced accuracy and increased fragility of a mechanical movement. So, although it's a gem of a mechanical watch, unless you're in love with spinning wheels and rotors and gears, this may not be the best functional timepiece for you.
