A young woman with a camera follows a man around to make a documentary about him, something he is not very happy with.
With Vincent D'Onofrio, Hope Davis, Lucy Liu, Sandy Martin
A nerdy executive (Dave Foley) goes ballistic over being passed over for a promotion to president. Launching into an attack on the new executive in his office, he storms in only to find the man dead with a knife in his neck. Becoming hysterical, he storms out of the office and assumes everyone will think he committed the crime. So naturally he takes off as a fugitive. Only problem is the office cameras caught the crime and have already revealed the murderer. Fleeing to Mexico, the executive runs into the real killer (Colm Feore) who is being pursued by a detective (David Higgins). Naturally he thinks the detective is after him.

My first fiction short made in Betacam a few years before digital became the norm. References to Carpenter and Argento are almost abusive. Charles Hodges is the one man show here as the main character. With English subtitles.

Rich Lenoce clones himself to help ease the burden of his busy schedule at the college. We parodied the film "Multiplicity". Rich's acting really shines as he portrays four different versions of himself in this video (Real Rich, Tough Guy Rich, Kinder Gentler Rich and Copy of a Copy Rich). This is Rick Eriksen's first appearance in an End of the Year Video. The video has some early digital effect experiments (Lens Flares) which were composited into the shots with After Effects version 3 on a Power PC Macintosh 7500 running at 100MHz. It took hours for each 2 second shot to render. The editing and split screen effects were done with the imMix Videocube.

PSJA Bears Highlight Film (1997)
This was my Senior project for the high school video production class waaaaay back in 1997. This was cut on 3/4" magnetic tape cassettes using the old EDL deck-to-deck process, long before I got my hands on my first NLE. This is from my personal VHS copy. Apparently I've always been a cuts-and-dissolves kind of guy. I conducted the interview, found the footage, picked the music and basically did whatever I wanted on this video. Paraprofessional Cesar Castillo shot the interview, suggested the Dio song and the triple-beat cuts you see two times during the song. Supervisor Ed Cantu created the opening title graphics and provided the play-by-plays. Launching into an attack on the new executive in his office, he storms in only to find the man dead with a knife in his neck. Becoming hysterical, he storms out of the office and assumes everyone will think he committed the crime. So naturally he takes off as a fugitive. Only problem is the office cameras caught the crime and have already revealed the murderer. Fleeing to Mexico, the executive runs into the real killer (Colm Feore) who is being pursued by a detective (David Higgins). Naturally he thinks the detective is after him.

Interactive video panorama using 4 networked computers with touchpads and microphones, 4 laserdisc players, 4 video projectors and four amplified speakers. Synopsis:
Four walls of a space are "painted", with video projectors, into a single photo realistic 360º landscape representing a public garden. The space, set in Montreal's Mont-Royal Park, is being visited by real and virtual characters. If the virtual characters appear free
to come and go in the garden, real visitors will need help to walk in and explore. For this they have to make contact with one of the virtual character by selecting, using voice or touch, questions or comments from imposed sets. Questions on, for example, where they are, what is around, where one can go from here will engage a conversation leading to some form of relationship. The exchange may be cut short with everyone going back to their business or it may reach a point where visitors will convince a character to lead them somewhere. In such case, visitors are being pulled through the landscape after their virtual guide and the whole room appears to be moving in this direction.
The dialogue between the guide and the visitor or group goes on and defines the progression through space. Because real visitors are using virtual characters to steer their way through space, the nature of visitor's relationship to the character will define the space - physical or metaphorical - that can be accessed. There are several possible destinations or outcome. Visitors could simply be abandoned somewhere on the way if the connection to the character is broken, or they could be reaching a destination: a lookout or a forbidden boundary.
This journey through space is also a journey through words, meanings, language, subjectivity. It highlights not only the physical world in which this is happening but also its diverse meanings and functions to different people. The experience is about communication/discommunication between people with movements through space as manifestation of its nature; successful forms of communication will offer visitors more varied inroads into more remote places.

We parodied the film "Multiplicity". Rich's acting really shines as he portrays four different versions of himself in this video (Real Rich, Tough Guy Rich, Kinder Gentler Rich and Copy of a Copy Rich). This is Rick Eriksen's first appearance in an End of the Year Video. The video has some early digital effect experiments (Lens Flares) which were composited into the shots with After Effects version 3 on a Power PC Macintosh 7500 running at 100MHz. It took hours for each 2 second shot to render. The editing and split screen effects were done with the imMix Videocube.

This was my Senior project for the high school video production class waaaaay back in 1997. This was cut on 3/4" magnetic tape cassettes using the old EDL deck-to-deck process, long before I got my hands on my first NLE. This is from my personal VHS copy. Apparently I've always been a cuts-and-dissolves kind of guy.
I conducted the interview, found the footage, picked the music and basically did whatever I wanted on this video. Paraprofessional Cesar Castillo shot the interview, suggested the Dio song and the triple-beat cuts you see two times during the song. Supervisor Ed Cantu created the opening title graphics and provided the play-by-plays. Fellow student Phillip Hernandez took over editing with my notes for a week while I was on vacation with the family. His work can be seen primarily during the middle segment of the song Higher Ground up until the transition to Stand Up and Shout. The slow-motion work was the original 3/4" tapes converted to Betacam SP and played at half-speed while re-recorded back to another BetaSP tape as the 3/4" decks did not have smooth variable speeds without obtrusive scan lines.
This entire video was a trial-by-fire of linear cutting. All the fancy moves you can make in an NLE environment are easily taken for granted if you've never had to edit this way. The EDL and deck controllers made it easier, but "easy" is a subjective term here.
