The Pilbara is a large, dry, thinly populated region in the north of Western Australia. It is known for its Aboriginal peoples, its ancient landscapes, the red earth, its vast mineral deposits, in particular iron ore and as a global biodiversity hotspot for subterranean fauna. It is one of nine regions of the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993, and is also a bioregion under the Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA).
The region has an estimated population of 48,610 as of June 2010. The Pilbara covers an area of 502,000 km2, which includes some of Earth's oldest rock formations. It includes landscapes of coastal plains and mountain ranges with cliffs and gorges. The major settlements of the region are Port Hedland, Karratha and Newman.
The area is known for its petroleum, natural gas and iron ore deposits, which contribute significantly to Western Australia's economy. Other than mining, pastoral activities as well as fishing and tourism are the main industries.
Western Australia (abbreviated as WA) is a state occupying the entire western third of Australia. It is bounded by the Indian Ocean to the north and west, the Great Australian Bight and Southern Ocean to the south, the Northern Territory to the north-east and South Australia to the south-east. Western Australia is Australia's largest state with a total land area of 2,529,875 square kilometres (976,790 sq mi), and the second-largest country subdivision in the world – however, a significant part of it is sparsely populated. The state has about 2.6 million inhabitants, around 11% of the national total. 92% of the population lives in the south-west corner of the state.
The first European visitor to Western Australia was the Dutch explorer Dirk Hartog, who visited the Western Australian coast in 1616. The New South Wales colonial government established a convict-supported military garrison at King George III Sound, at present-day Albany, in 1826, which was followed by the establishment of the Swan River Colony in 1829, including the site of the present-day capital, Perth. York was the first inland settlement in Western Australia. Situated 97 kilometres east of Perth, it was settled on 16 September 1831.
Ruts 4x4 take a look at some of what the Pilbara has to offer. Heading through some towns like Cue, Meekathara, Mount Gould, Mount Augustus, Karajini and many other spots. If your keen to plan your next offroad or touring adventure, why not have a watch.
English adventurer William Dampier sailed along Australia's North West coast in 1688. He called it the most barren spot on the globe but noticed that the compass showed a powerful attraction to a range of mountains to the south. For the next 250 years that powerful attraction was ignored, until in the 1960's it was found there were vast reserves of iron ore, today it is thought there is enough to supply world needs for the next 400 years. Jack Absalom's journey into the Pilbara unearths many of the regions treasures. You also get to travel on some of the giant ore trains that carry the economic treasure to the ports and onto giant cargo ships headed to Japan and China.

Fly the gorges of Karijini like a bird with FPV Lindo. See the spectacular photos taken by Pilbara photographer Gavin Canning of Electric Images Australia. In mid May 2016 Gav and myself set out with our aerial video and photography gear for three nights in the beautiful Karijini National Park in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Gav, a Karratha local and Karijini veteran was my personal tour guide. We explored the gorges, swam the water holes, and drank plenty of beer :) This was the result. All stills and stars were taken by Gavin Canning. You can see his work at https://www.facebook.com/electricimagesaustralia/ Thanks for watching, enjoy, and share :) https://www.facebook.com/fpvlindo
Cue, Western Australia (HD) - Cue, WA Tourism and vacation Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube The small town of Cue in Western Australia's Murchison Region is to me a particularly interesting outback town. Like so many old WA mining towns, Cue has thrived and floundered over the years with times of boom and bust. The town was established in 1893 following the discovery of gold in the area the year before, which sparked a gold rush to the remote Murchison Region desert. In its heyday at the beginning of the twentieth century Cue was home to over 10000 people, a thriving and prosperous town known as "The Queen of the Murchison". These days things couldn't be more different. With a population of less than 300, Cue is very clo...

Good memories of time gone by
Sweet friendships that never die
Will always be there when you grow tired
Don't swim against the currect
Because your arms will grow tired
Just float there and let the water pass the time
Cus' you never know what life throws at you
So don't tell me that you know the secret
Cus' you don't know me and I don't know you
Yeah, I'll tell you when I get there
And if I knew, I'd be lying too
Well preachers preach and liars lie
Burglars steal and smokers get high
They're not better or worse than you or I
Ya don't swim against the current
Because your arms will grow tired
Just float there and let the water pass the time
Cus' you never know what life throws at you
So don't tell me that you know the secret
Cus' you don't know me and I don't know you
Yeah, I'll tell you when I get there
And if I knew, well I'd be lying too
And don't give up on anything
Cus' I need you around here for a while
And don't give in to anything
Just forget about it out and smile
It's been two years since he's gone
I write these words
I sing this song
Some preacher says he knows what's going on
Cus' you never know what life throws at you
Yea don't tell me that you know some secret
Cus' you don't know me and I don't know you
Yeah, I'll tell you when I get there
Well if I knew, I'd be lying too
I'd be lying too
I'd be lying too
