Otago (/əˈtɑːɡoʊ, oʊ-, ɒ-/;New Zealand [əˈtɐːɡɐʉ̯]) is a region of New Zealand in the south of the South Island administered by the Otago Regional Council. It has an area of approximately 32,000 square kilometres (12,000 sq mi), making it the country's third largest local government region. Its population was 215,100 in the June 2015 estimate.
The name "Otago" is an old southern Maori word whose North Island dialect equivalent is "Otakou", introduced to the south by Europeans in the 1840s. The exact meaning of the term is disputed, with common translations being "isolated village" and "place of red earth", the latter referring to the reddish-ochre clay which is common in the area around Dunedin. "Otago" is also the old name of the European settlement on the Otago Harbour, established by the Weller Brothers in 1831, which lies close to the modern harbourside community of Otakou. The place later became the focus of the Otago Association, an offshoot of the Free Church of Scotland, notable for its high-minded adoption of the principle that ordinary people, not the landowner, should choose the ministers.
Central Otago is an informal name for the inland part of the Otago region in the South Island of New Zealand. The area commonly known as Central Otago includes both the Central Otago District and the Queenstown-Lakes District to its west. The motto for the area is "A World of Difference".
The area is dominated by mountain ranges and the upper reaches of the Clutha River and tributaries. The wide flat plateau of the Maniototo which lies between the upper reaches of the Taieri River and the Clutha's northern tributary the Manuherikia is also usually considered part of Central Otago.
Characterised by cold winters and hot, dry summers, the area is only lightly populated, although there has recently been considerable development around the tourist towns of Queenstown and Wanaka. First significant European occupation came with the discovery of gold at Gabriel's Gully near Lawrence in 1861, which led to the Central Otago goldrush. Other towns and villages include Albert Town, Alexandra, Arrowtown, Bannockburn, Clyde, Cromwell, Hawea, Millers Flat, Naseby, Omakau, Ranfurly, Roxburgh, St. Bathans, and Wedderburn.
New Zealand (/njuːˈziːlənd/ new-ZEE-lənd, Māori: Aotearoa [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses – that of the North Island, or Te Ika-a-Māui, and the South Island, or Te Waipounamu – and numerous smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long isolation, New Zealand developed a distinctive biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.
Somewhere between 1250 and 1300 CE, Polynesians settled in the islands that were to become New Zealand, and developed a distinctive Māori culture. In 1642, Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer, became the first European to sight New Zealand. In 1840, representatives of the British Crown and Māori Chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, making New Zealand a British colony. Today, the majority of New Zealand's population of 4.5 million is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and Pacific Islanders. Reflecting this, New Zealand's culture is mainly derived from Māori and early British settlers, with recent broadening arising from increased immigration. The official languages are English, Māori and New Zealand Sign Language, with English predominant.

Dominique Ané (born 6 October 1968), better known as "Dominique A," is a French songwriter and singer.
Born on the 6 October 1968 in Provins, France, Dominique Ané is the only child of a teacher and a homemaker. He was passionate about literature and music from a young age. He was interested in the punk music of the time, but at the age of 14, at the beginning of the 1980s, he started to appreciate the dark romanticism of the new wave movement. After his baccalaureate, he studied humanities for a year, and, at the same time, did a range of odd jobs, including his spell as a utility man for an FM radio station in Nantes, where his family lived. At around the age of 16, he started up a band, John Merrick, named after the hero of the film The Elephant Man, a movie by David Lynch.
The University of Otago (Māori: 'Te Whare Wānanga o Otāgo') as a public university located in Dunedin, New Zealand. It is New Zealand's oldest university, with almost 21,000 students enrolled during the 2014 year.
The university has New Zealand's highest average research quality, and in 2006 was second only to the University of Auckland in the number of A rated academic researchers it employs. It topped the New Zealand Performance Based Research Fund evaluation in 2006.
Founded in 1869 by a committee including Thomas Burns, the university opened in July 1871. Its motto is "Sapere aude" ("Dare to be wise"). (The University of New Zealand subsequently adopted the same motto.) The Otago University Students' Association answers this with its own motto, "Audeamus" ("let us dare"). The university's graduation song Gaudeamus igitur, iuvenes dum sumus... ("Let us rejoice, while we are young") acknowledges students will continue to live up to the challenge if not always in the way intended. Between 1874 and 1961 the University of Otago was a part of the University of New Zealand, and issued degrees in its name.

Kayaking? Yes, you can. Cycling? Yes, you can. Tramping? Yes, you can. Sightseeing? Yes, you can. Central Otago has a lot to offer to it's visitors but unfortunately it's missed by most who come to New Zealand. This magnificent place is for the winter lovers, summer sport junkies or just for who wish a cold beer at a nice and historic pub. So much to do, so much to see. So much I love this place.

New Zealand's most inland region is a landscape of vast, open terrain and alpine scenery. The ambience of the area is defined by many things: the exciting change in seasons; the tranquillity that comes with having only 11,000 inhabitants; a rich, gold mining heritage; and contemporary, award-winning wines. To unwind and relax in Central Otago is not hard. You could cycle a section of the Otago Central Rail Trail; tour a vineyard; play a round of golf; or visit an historic, gold mining town and learn about Otago's equally-prosperous past. Plan, pack and prepare for life in New Zealand. A guide for International Students arriving to study at Otago Polytechnic.
I've officially headed south in my travels of New Zealand! I spent 2 days exploring Dunedin. It's a bit of a college town but that doesn't mean that there isn't anything for travellers to see and do. I managed to learn a lot about the history of the Dunedin at the Toitū Otago Settlers Museum. I spent some time wandering the railway station. I tested the local brew at Speight's Brewery. I hiked to the top of Balwin Street which is know as the steepest street in the world. I strolled through (a lacklustre thanks to winter) botanic garden. Finally, I got my sugar fix at the Cadbury World factory tour. Not bad for only 2 days of exploring. Nuestro día va a llegar, tendremos nuestra vez
