goal isn't 'take away jobs' it's let machines do what they're good at and let humans do human things. Need to rethink the concept of jobs.

Except that eventually, you run out of things that machines can't do and people have no way of making money.
-
The concept of "money" will radically change once a significant portion of humans become unemployable. In the interim, UBI is a start.
-
Right. Okay then. And in the meantime? People are just supposed to starve to death so that startups can dream of a moneyless utopia?
-
Unfortunately, yes. You can speed up the process, however, by running for office with this inevitable future in mind, or protest about it.
-
As delightful as your moral compass sounds, I'm guessing you find this sacrifice easy to make since you're not the one who will be hurt
-
Seeing as I'm a factory worker to make ends meet (while doing creative work on the side) I will be the first to suffer from automation. :(

The intention is to automate manual error prone labor and free humans to use their brains for higher functions than picking up boxes
-
issue with this, there's plenty of people who love do simple things. Not everyone should pump gas, and not everyone should be a developer.

Right, automating jobs doesn't mean everyone becomes a developer. This is a pseudo argument.

-
I think you missed the point I was making, it was not rhetorical at all

Bad wordchoice
#eh all the same, what's the point of stating "pseudo argument". Seems pointless like providing anecdotal evidence. Means 0 -
I think you are on the wrong forum if you are looking for a detailed discussion on why technological advances are not bad.
-

Ideally, freeing people from work is a great thing. It's fucked we managed to build a society where it's not, though.

No beef - just highlighting that your graph pertains to US population w/o explicit reference to legal vs exploited labor. Keep on truckin'!pic.twitter.com/vlfMXSZmbn

That's a fair point but your chart starts in 1991, well after tech entrepreneurs had mercifully killed off most agriculture jobs.
