I was invited by Naturally Langkawi (Tourism Malaysia) to visit the island of Langkawi to explore and to eat. My wife and I are based in Bangkok, so we woke up early to catch our flight from Bangkok to Langkawi, and we arrived just in time for lunch.
After grabbing our bag from Langkawi airport we jumped in the car and took a drive to Seashells Restaurant, located in laman padi, a rice field. The setting of the restaurant was really nice, with wooden cabanas built over the top of a rice field. We ordered a few different nasi campur dishes, including daging kurma, a beef and coconut milk curry and ayam masak merah, a red chicken curry as well, and we also got some other chicken curry, omelet, and finally both fried fish and Malaysian grilled fish known as ikan bakar. I thought the food was over quite good, and the setting inside the rice field was also very nice.
Lunch accomplished we headed to The Andaman hotel, located on the very northwestern side of Langkawi island. But on the way driving there, we stopped at a local food stall where we enjoyed a few local deep fried snacks and fritters and a donut. I’ll admit, even though I’m not a big sweets fan, that everything was quite tasty - I especially liked the little deep fried banana bread balls.
The Andaman is a very nice hotel, with a private stretch of beach, and so the first thing, after walking around the hotel was to take a swim. After the swim, we ate dinner at Jala Restaurant, a restaurant that’s located at The Andaman hotel.
It was a great day traveling from Bangkok to Langkawi, and thank you to Naturally Langkawi for organizing this trip.

Langkawi has long been called the Permata Kedah, or the Jewel of Kedah. You can take a guided tour, or ride the Langkawi Cable Car up to the top of this peak to take in the stunning natural beauty of the island.
Once you’ve gotten your fill of the outdoors, head to Kuah, the largest town on Pulau Langkawi. This is the home of duty-free shopping, so stock up on exotic local goods. Once you’ve decked yourself out in your new purchases, head to one of the many nightclubs dotting the downtown area, where you can dance with fellow partygoers.

Langkawi, also known as the Jewel of Kedah, is home to 104 islands in the Andaman Sea. Langkawi is part of the state in Kedah, Malaysia. This island is located at very close distance to the Thailand border. The capital city of Langkawi is known as Kuah city. This island is also a duty free island where you can purchase alcohol and cigarette at a up to 40-50% discounted rate. It's a heavenly place for the alcoholics and the smokers. Besides, Langkawi also has a variety of different imported chocolates and snacks. If you are chocolate lover, Langkawi is definitely a place you want to visit.
Besides from its breathtaking mountainous scenery and beautiful white sandy beaches, it has many delicious local street foods that you don't want to miss trying when you visit to this island.
Here's the list of Top 10 Street food you must eat when you visit to Langkawi.
1. Chicken Kebab - Juicy minced Chicken with tomatoes, onions, chilis, potatoes, cucumber, and a thick and flavourful black pepper gravy, wrapped in a grilled tortillas wrap.
2. Apam Malik - Crispy, sweet and lightly salted pancake with ground peanuts and sweet corn paste fillings. It's cheap and delightful snacks to eat while you still have few stretches of stalls to visit at the night market. Price - 1 MYR for 2pcs (USD 0.25).
3. Milo ice - A favorite drink for the Malaysians. It's a cold chocolate malt drink. It's a must have when you visit the night market in Malaysia.
4. Ayam Percik - Malaysian Roasted Spiced Chicken. It's juicy, tender and packed with different flavours and spices. You definitely don't wanna miss trying one of the ayam percik before you leave Langkawi.
5. Tokiyoo - Also known as Kuih Tokyo in Malay. It's a Malaysian version of famous Tokyo pancake dessert. It's a small pancake filled with custard cream or coconut cream. It's simply delicious.
6. Laksa Utara - Northern Laksa. Its different from the Penang's Red Laksa. It's not spicy at all. It's broth is made from ground fish meat. And the noodle is made from rice, hence its white color. The noodle is soft with slight chewiness, it just soaked up all the flavors from the rich fish broth. Its one of the signature food in northern region of Malaysia.
7. Fresh Coconut juice - Malaysia has one of the best coconut juice in the world, its cheap and tasty. You definitely don'y wanna miss this too.
8. Fruit Rojak - One of the most popular dish among the Malaysians, The fruit rojak. It's made out of chopped mangos, cucumber, pineapple, white beet root and bathed with a thick, sweet, salty, spicy, gluelike black gravy and then sprinkle with fine ground peanut on top. It's healthy and delicious.
9. Beef Burger Special - The most popular midnight snack for the Malaysians. You can find it in every corner of Malaysia. It's also called Ramli Burger. Its beef patty is wrapped by a layer of egg on the outside. Its special in Malaysia so you must try it.
10. Mee Kelabu - It's basically chicken and vegetables noodles salad. It has different type of sauce in it. It simple and delicious. It took me 30 minutes queue to get it.

Langkawi
Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah (Malay: Langkawi Permata Kedah) is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah, which is adjacent to the Thai border. On 15 July 2008, Sultan Abdul Halim of Kedah had consented to the change of name to Langkawi Permata Kedah in conjunction with his Golden Jubilee Celebration. By far the largest of the islands is the eponymous Langkawi Island with a population of some 64,792, the only other inhabited island being nearby Tuba Island. Langkawi is also an administrative district with the town of Kuah as largest town. Langkawi is a duty-free island.
Etymology
The name Langkawi is thought to have existed by the early 15th century, although in the 16th century the island of Langkawi was also marked on maps variously as Langa, Langka, Lansura, and Langapura.
There are many suggestions for the origin of the name of Langkawi. According to one interpretation, Langkawi means island of the reddish-brown eagle in colloquial Malay. The Malay word for eagle is helang - which is shortened to "lang", while kawi is the name of a red stone used as a chalk to mark goods. This interpretation was used to create the landmark sculpture of an eagle as the symbol of Langkawi at Dataran Helang (Eagle Square) in Kuah.

I was invited by Naturally Langkawi (Tourism Malaysia) to visit the island of Langkawi to explore and to eat. My wife and I are based in Bangkok, so we woke up early to catch our flight from Bangkok to Langkawi, and we arrived just in time for lunch.
After grabbing our bag from Langkawi airport we jumped in the car and took a drive to Seashells Restaurant, located in laman padi, a rice field. The setting of the restaurant was really nice, with wooden cabanas built over the top of a rice field. We ordered a few different nasi campur dishes, including daging kurma, a beef and coconut milk curry and ayam masak merah, a red chicken curry as well, and we also got some other chicken curry, omelet, and finally both fried fish and Malaysian grilled fish known as ikan bakar. I thought the food was over quite good, and the setting inside the rice field was also very nice.
Lunch accomplished we headed to The Andaman hotel, located on the very northwestern side of Langkawi island. But on the way driving there, we stopped at a local food stall where we enjoyed a few local deep fried snacks and fritters and a donut. I’ll admit, even though I’m not a big sweets fan, that everything was quite tasty - I especially liked the little deep fried banana bread balls.
The Andaman is a very nice hotel, with a private stretch of beach, and so the first thing, after walking around the hotel was to take a swim. After the swim, we ate dinner at Jala Restaurant, a restaurant that’s located at The Andaman hotel.
It was a great day traveling from Bangkok to Langkawi, and thank you to Naturally Langkawi for organizing this trip.

This island is also a duty free island where you can purchase alcohol and cigarette at a up to 40-50% discounted rate. It's a heavenly place for the alcoholics and the smokers. Besides, Langkawi also has a variety of different imported chocolates and snacks. If you are chocolate lover, Langkawi is definitely a place you want to visit.

1. Chicken Kebab - Juicy minced Chicken with tomatoes, onions, chilis, potatoes, cucumber, and a thick and flavourful black pepper gravy, wrapped in a grilled tortillas wrap.
2. Apam Malik - Crispy, sweet and lightly salted pancake with ground peanuts and sweet corn paste fillings. It's cheap and delightful snacks to eat while you still have few stretches of stalls to visit at the night market. Price - 1 MYR for 2pcs (USD 0.25).
3. Milo ice - A favorite drink for the Malaysians. It's a cold chocolate malt drink. It's a must have when you visit the night market in Malaysia.
4. Ayam Percik - Malaysian Roasted Spiced Chicken. It's juicy, tender and packed with different flavours and spices. You definitely don't wanna miss trying one of the ayam percik before you leave Langkawi.
5. Tokiyoo - Also known as Kuih Tokyo in Malay. It's a Malaysian version of famous Tokyo pancake dessert. It's a small pancake filled with custard cream or coconut cream. It's simply delicious.
6. Laksa Utara - Northern Laksa. Its different from the Penang's Red Laksa. It's not spicy at all. It's broth is made from ground fish meat. And the noodle is made from rice, hence its white color. The noodle is soft with slight chewiness, it just soaked up all the flavors from the rich fish broth. Its one of the signature food in northern region of Malaysia.
7. Fresh Coconut juice - Malaysia has one of the best coconut juice in the world, its cheap and tasty. You definitely don'y wanna miss this too.
8. Fruit Rojak - One of the most popular dish among the Malaysians, The fruit rojak. It's made out of chopped mangos, cucumber, pineapple, white beet root and bathed with a thick, sweet, salty, spicy, gluelike black gravy and then sprinkle with fine ground peanut on top. It's healthy and delicious.
9. Beef Burger Special - The most popular midnight snack for the Malaysians. You can find it in every corner of Malaysia. It's also called Ramli Burger. Its beef patty is wrapped by a layer of egg on the outside. Its special in Malaysia so you must try it.
10. Mee Kelabu - It's basically chicken and vegetables noodles salad. It has different type of sauce in it. It simple and delicious. It took me 30 minutes queue to get it.

Top Things to do in Langkawi Malaysia with Wagoners Abroad
So far I have traveled to 50+ countries in my lifetime and I have to say, I fell in love with the nature in Langkawi. I am almost hesitant to tell you about it, as I don't want tourism to spoil what we have experienced. At the same time I wish you could all see this place. I know I have more of the world to see, but Langkawi Malaysia ranks very high for us. Come with us as we show you our guide to Langkawi, so you can see what it has to offer with kids. The best things to do in langkawi island at night: 1. Riding a bike and wander around town is my favorite thing to do in Langkawi island 2. Eat Nasi Goreng ( Fried Rice ) in one of the street food stalls in Kuah Town Area. The food stall that i was eating at is called Hidayah Cafe. Just across the road in front of Bayview Hotel Kuah Langkawi. They have full menu of seafood dishes and many other stir fried dishes to choose from. 3. After dinner, just strolled around kuah town and the night market just besides the food stalls. If its your last night here then you might want to do a little shopping for chocolates and wines in one of the Duty free shops in kuah town such the coco valley, haji ismail group, teoh soon huat, zeno duty free and many more. 4. Langkawi has long been called the Permata Kedah, or the Jewel of Kedah. The best things to do in langkawi island at night:
1. Riding a bike and wander around town is my favorite thing to do in Langkawi island
2. Eat Nasi Goreng ( Fried Rice ) in one of the street food stalls in Kuah Town Area. The food stall that i was eating at is called Hidayah Cafe. Just across the road in front of Bayview Hotel Kuah Langkawi. They have full menu of seafood dishes and many other stir fried dishes to choose from.
3. After dinner, just strolled around kuah town and the night market just besides the food stalls. If its your last night here then you might want to do a little shopping for chocolates and wines in one of the Duty free shops in kuah town such the coco valley, haji ismail group, teoh soon huat, zeno duty free and many more.
4. Visit Eagle Square (Dataran Lang) located near to the Kuah Jetty Ferry Terminal. It is one of the top main attractions in Langkawi island. The giant eagle statue is really instagood! so take tonnes of pictures here and send it to all your social media.

Legends and Stories about Langkawi Island:
Langkawi's most prominent mountains, Gunung Macinchang and Gunung Raya, and a whole series of towns and villages are said to named after a local legend. The story tells the tale of a wedding between two families of giants, with Mat Raya's son wanting to marry Mat Cincang's daughter. During the wedding feast, a fight broke out between the two wedding parties, reputedly because the son was caught flirting with another woman.
During the fight, pots and pans were thrown, and a large pot of gravy (kuah) was broken and the contents flowed onto the ground. The place where the gravy was spilled became known as Kuah (the largest town on Langkawi island) and where the crockery (belanga) was broken (pecah) was location of the village Kampung Belanga Pecah. The gravy seeped into (kisap) the earth at the village named Kisap.
