Finance is a field that deals with the study of investments. It includes the dynamics of assets and liabilities over time under conditions of different degrees of uncertainty and risk. Finance can also be defined as the science of money management. A key point in finance is the time value of money, which states that purchasing power of one unit of currency can vary over time. Finance aims to price assets based on their risk level and their expected rate of return. Finance can be broken into three different sub-categories: public finance, corporate finance and personal finance.
Wall Street, the center of American finance.

London Stock Exchange, global center of finance.

Questions in personal finance revolve around:
Venture capital (VC) is money provided to seed early-stage, emerging and emerging growth companies. Venture capital funds invest in companies in exchange for equity in the companies they invest in, which usually have a novel technology or business model in high technology industries, such as biotechnology and IT. The typical venture capital investment occurs after a seed funding round as the first round of institutional capital to fund growth (also referred to as Series A round) in the interest of generating a return through an eventual exit event, such as an IPO or trade sale of the company. Venture capital is a type of private equity.
In addition to angel investing, equity crowdfunding and other seed funding options, venture capital is attractive for new companies with limited operating history that are too small to raise capital in the public markets and have not reached the point where they are able to secure a bank loan or complete a debt offering. In exchange for the high risk that venture capitalists assume by investing in smaller and less mature companies, venture capitalists usually get significant control over company decisions, in addition to a significant portion of the companies' ownership (and consequently value).
Asset-based lending is any kind of lending secured by an asset. This means, if the loan is not repaid, the asset is taken. In this sense, a mortgage is an example of an asset-based loan. More commonly however, the phrase is used to describe lending to business and large corporations using assets not normally used in other loans. Typically, these loans are tied to inventory, accounts receivable, machinery and equipment. Asset-based lending in this more specific sense is possible only in certain countries whose legal systems allow borrowers to pledge such assets to lenders as collateral for loans (through the creation of enforceable security interests).
Asset-based lending is usually done when the normal routes of raising funds is not possible, such as the capital markets (selling bonds to investors) and normal unsecured or mortgage secured bank. This is often because the company has exhausted other capital raising options or needs more immediate capital for project financing needs (such as inventory purchases, mergers, acquisitions and debt purchasing). Asset based loans are also usually accompanied by lower interest rates, as in the event of a default the lender can recoup their investment by seizing and liquidating the assets tied to the loan.
Financial accounting (or financial accountancy) is the field of accounting concerned with the summary, analysis and reporting of financial transactions pertaining to a business. This involves the preparation of financial statements available for public consumption. Stockholders, suppliers, banks, employees, government agencies, business owners, and other stakeholders are examples of people interested in receiving such information for decision making purposes.
Financial accountancy is governed by both local and international accounting standards. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is the standard framework of guidelines for financial accounting used in any given jurisdiction. It includes the standards, conventions and rules that accountants follow in recording and summarising and in the preparation of financial statements. On the other hand, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is a set of international accounting standards stating how particular types of transactions and other events should be reported in financial statements. IFRS are issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). With IFRS becoming more widespread on the international scene, consistency in financial reporting has become more prevalent between global organisations.
An angel investor or angel (also known as a business angel, informal investor, angel funder, private investor, or seed investor) is an affluent individual who provides capital for a business start-up, usually in exchange for convertible debt or ownership equity. A small but increasing number of angel investors invest online through equity crowdfunding or organize themselves into angel groups or angel networks to share research and pool their investment capital, as well as to provide advice to their portfolio companies.
The term "angel" originally comes from Broadway theater, where it was used to describe wealthy individuals who provided money for theatrical productions that would otherwise have had to shut down. In 1978, William Wetzel, then a professor at the University of New Hampshire and founder of its Center for Venture Research, completed a pioneering study on how entrepreneurs raised seed capital in the USA, and he began using the term "angel" to describe the investors that supported them. A similar term is patron, commonly used in arts.

So, we've been putting off a kind of basic question here. What is money? What is currency? How are the two different. Well, not to give away too much, but money has a few basic functions. It acts as a store of value, a medium of exchange, and as a unit of account. Money isn't just bills and coins. It can be anything that meets these three criteria. In US prisons, apparently, pouches of Mackerel are currency. Yes, mackerel the fish. Paper and coins work as money because they're backed by the government, which is an advantage over mackerel. So, once you've got money, you need finance. We'll talk about borrowing, lending, interest, and stocks and bonds. Also, this episode features a giant zucchini, which Adriene grew in her garden. Financial Theory (ECON 251) This lecture gives a brief history of the young field of financial theory, which began in business schools quite separate from economics, and of my growing interest in the field and in Wall Street. A cornerstone of standard financial theory is the efficient markets hypothesis, but that has been discredited by the financial crisis of 2007-09. This lecture describes the kinds of questions standard financial theory nevertheless answers well. It also introduces the leverage cycle as a critique of standard financial theory and as an explanation of the crisis. The lecture ends with a class experiment illustrating a situation in which the efficient markets hypothesis works surprisingly well. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Course Introduction 10:16 - Chapter 2. "Financial literacy is one of the biggest issues that plague our society. 90% of crimes committed are money related, yet only 1% of the programs that cater to people in prison and out deal with finance. I am here to be a solution for that, at least from my perspective." Known as the "Oracle of San Quentin", Curtis Caroll was convicted of murder/robbery 20 years ago and was sentenced to 54 years to life behind bars at an age when most of us were busy going on awkward dates as we attempted to navigate high school. Curtis grew up in what can be considered ground zero of the crack epidemic; Oakland, California. Carroll's desire to change his circumstance forced him to educate himself and at the same time awakened a conscious he long ago buried under multiple rap sheets as a youth. Carroll n...

If you want to learn about overdraft accounts check out our video on how overdrafts work. An arranged overdraft is when your bank lets you spend more money than you have in your account - up to an agreed overdraft limit. A bank overdraft can be helpful if you've got small expenses to cover or if you're a bit short of cash until you next get paid. You can apply for an overdraft on your existing bank account, and you have control over your overdraft limit based on the amount you choose to apply for and how much you're approved for. When you apply for an overdraft there are usually overdraft fees that you need to be aware of, such as a set-up fee or monthly fee. You'll need to pay back your overdraft and you'll need to pay interest as well, so paying it off quickly is a good idea. With an ...

http://youngmomsclub.com So let me tell you about how my ex-husband completely screwed me over and how I learned the fastest way to pay off debt. When I was 15 I bought my first car (cash). I had worked under the table since I was 14 to save up for it. I was so proud. Fast forward a couple years to when I found myself pregnant at 17. I realized I needed an even better car than I had, one that was safer and would last but I had no savings, so my dad co-signed for me for a $4,000 personal loan. I sold my old car and used that money to buy an older, but reliable, Honda Accord. Around this same time, I took out a $13,000 school loan. Then I had my first pregnancy and baby. There were major complications with her and even though I had great insurance, I was left with $5,000 in medical bills...

http://www.nchinc.com/ Asset-Based Financing Asset-Based Financing or ABF is becoming more widely available to smaller companies. It used to be reserved for major business ventures, but as financing companies have perfected their practices, they have expanded into the small business market. One popular form of ABF is invoice financing, where a financing company advances funds based on existing orders ensuring that borrowing is limited to funds that are in the pipeline. This can be an efficient way for a business to raise fast money. Asset-based financial institutions offer business funding approaches to companies that don't qualify for conventional loans or lines of credit from banks because they don't meet a banks finance requirements. These alternatives usually consist of asset-based l...

The term “business angel” is thought to have its origins in New York’s Broadway musical scene. Producers who wanted to launch a new show would receive investment funding from wealthy “up- town” patrons of the theatre who would come “down-town” like angels to invest in these risky ventures. Today business angels are a major source of venture capital financing that helps to fill a gap that lies between the start-up and seed capital stage (i.e. typically less than $25,000), and the point at which formal venture capital funds will take an interest (i.e. typically above $3 million to $5 million). The definition of “business angel” remains unclear, with the terms “business angel”, “informal investor” and “informal venture capital” all used interchangeably. In an interesting paper on business a...

Carroll's desire to change his circumstance forced him to educate himself and at the same time awakened a conscious he long ago buried under multiple rap sheets as a youth. Carroll n...

Here we are, we're perfect strangers
After all this time there's no more you and I
But don't look for blame
We've come so far to different places
And now try to live a lie would be a crime
It's better this way
And we may not have tomorrow
But there's always yesterday
After the love has gone
Only fools carry on
We've been hurting for so long
And we both know that it's wrong
After the love has gone
Then we just don't belong
We both know that it's wrong
After the love has gone
It's clear this far, nothing to say now
We sang alone and tried so hard to play the game
It all ends the same
Just words no more to fill these spaces
When love is gone it's only wrong to try again
I know it's a shame
That we may not have tomorrow
But there's always yesterday
After the love has gone
Only fools carry on
We've been hurting for so long
And we both know that it's wrong
After the love has gone
Then we just don't belong
We both know that it's wrong
After the love has gone
