In part two of my video travel guide to India I travel to Bodhgaya, one of the most sacred places in all of the Buddhist religion. It was at this location 2,500 years ago that a young Prince Siddhartha sat under a fig tree, meditated and found enlightenment, thus becoming the Buddha. I start off by visiting the many temples that have been built by various Buddhists from around the world, including temples dedicated to Buddhists living in China, Japan, Tibet and Nepal. I then visit the Tergar Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist complexes in the region, which is a short walk from the main road. Close to Badaling the Great Wall Of China extends majestically across misty mountains. It is the largest Man-made structure in the world and was erected to protect the country from invasion from the North. The gigantic wall represented the division of two very different cultures. On one side the Central Asian Nomads and on the other the highly developed civilisation of the emerging Chinese Empire. Shanghai is a Gigantic City and a meeting point of both east and west. The shoreline is without a doubt the city’s main focal point and is a combination of past, present and future and contains the historic monuments and eye catching buildings of a great city. Famous explorer Marco Polo referred to Suzhou as the ‘Venice of the East’, a city that is particularly famous for its gardens. Many of its extremely elegant buildings are remnants of a glorious past. Yunnan´s most famous site is the unique Stone Forest Of Shi Lin, a forest of rock that extends for 27,000 hectares. Hong Kong is a city of the superlative with glimmering skyscrapers that seem to take root in the sky and one elegant building after another with shining glass and hi-tech facades. China is a world within a world!

In part two of my video travel guide to India I travel to Bodhgaya, one of the most sacred places in all of the Buddhist religion. It was at this location 2,500 years ago that a young Prince Siddhartha sat under a fig tree, meditated and found enlightenment, thus becoming the Buddha. I start off by visiting the many temples that have been built by various Buddhists from around the world, including temples dedicated to Buddhists living in China, Japan, Tibet and Nepal. I then visit the Tergar Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist complexes in the region, which is a short walk from the main road. I then head to the sacred Mahabodhi Temple complex in the center of town. At sunset it is a scenic, peaceful time to explore the grounds, which include a large monument built at the Bodhi Tree itself, as well as a sprawling garden area where people come from around the world to meditate.

En el viejo Tíbet los seguidores del legendario Gurú Milarepa tienen la costumbre de encerrarse en cuevas y someterse a arduas disciplinas de meditación, con ello pueden llegar a obtener grandes logros espirituales y poderes psíquicos, sin embargo el camino espiritual no esta exento de riesgos hasta que uno obtiene la iluminación final y nos referimos a riesgos que nos puedan apartar del propio camino o lo que se denomina una caída en el camino, con dicha caída podemos quedar atrapados de nuevo en la rueda del samsara, esto es la rueda de nacimientos y muertes donde venimos a sufrir nuestro karma, entendiendo como karma el dolor, el sufrimiento, la ignorancia, etc. La intención ultima de la iluminación es darnos cuenta cabal del porque de nuestros sufrimientos y nuestros apegos para poder trascender la rueda del samsara. El budismo tibetano pertenece al nivel vajrayana que corresponde a las enseñanzas tántricas. En el budismo mahayana (gran vehículo) existen tres niveles o escuelas: Sutrayana, Vajrayana y Atiyana. Aunque las tres escuelas buscan el mismo objetivo el modo de obtener la iluminación cambia, en el sutrayana aplican la renuncia, en el vajrayana aplican el tantra y en el atiyana aplican la auto-liberación. Son tres niveles con diferencias importantes dependiendo de la preparación del candidato se podrá aplicar un nivel u otro, siendo el sutrayana el más accesible, seguido del tantra y finalizando con el atiyana. Como veremos en la película el nivel al cual cada cual puede acceder dependerá del control de su energía sexual; en el sutrayana hay que controlar la energía sexual en el estado de vigilia, en el vajrayana hay que controlar la energía en el estado de vigilia y en los sueños, ya en el nivel atiyana el instinto sexual y su energía deben de ser plenamente trascendidos. Lo dicho puede extrañar a todos aquellos que ignoran la ciencia espiritual e ignoran que el fundamento de toda realización espiritual se basa en comprender la fuerza de la vida y de la muerte tal y como le enseña el sabio maestro en la cueva cuando le entrega la iniciación tántrica. La meditación sin aplicar una sabia transmutación de la energía sexual, queda a disposición de que cualquier impresión mundana pueda afectar toda nuestra psiquis, pues si alguien se retira o aparta del mundo ordinario en una cueva como sucede en la película, puede suceder que luego las impresiones del mundo exterior le perjudiquen provocándole una caída espiritual. En cambio en el vajrayan o tantra uno trabaja con el mayor potencial físico, material y energético que poseemos trabajando en la alquimia o supra-sexualidad, lo cual nos procura poder trascender cualquier impresión que pueda afectar nuestra psiquis. No entanto, ainda hoje, ninguém possui dados concretos. Estamos falando da Grande Muralha da China, uma das construções mais famosas do mundo, mas ao mesmo tempo uma das menos compreendidas. Para o escritor e historiador britânico William Lindesay, que vive na China há 20 anos, a exploração da Grande Muralha se tornou sua obsessão. Em 1987, ele percorreu a muralha pela primeira vez e descobriu que não existe apenas uma, mais sim várias muralhas no norte da China, construídas há mais de dois mil anos por dinastias distintas. Agora, 23 anos depois, ele volta às áreas mais remotas do monumento nacional da China e, em sua viagem, conhece camponeses, pastores, especialistas e acadêmicos que tentam responder sua pergunta: qual é a verdadeira extensão da Grande Muralha? DETALHES Durante muito tempo pensou-se que a Grande Muralha fora construída para proteger o Império Chinês contra a ameaça de invasão por tribos vizinhas. Na verdade, porém, o Império Qin não corria qualquer perigo em relação às tribos do norte quando a muralha começou a ser construída. Apenas os Hsiung-nu se haviam fixado significativamente no território chinês, e mesmo estes pouco resistiram quando o exército de Meng T’ien os expulsou da região de Ordos. A muralha seria uma defesa contra ataques futuros, mas o custo em vidas humanas parece excessivo para uma estrutura que não era uma necessidade imediata. A ideia da muralha pode ter nascido da obsessão de Shi Huang Di pela segurança e da sua paixão por grandes projetos. Porém, pode ter havido razões mais pragmáticas: a muralha seria um local conveniente para onde enviar os desordeiros e fazê-los trabalhar. A construção da muralha também dava emprego aos milhares de soldados sem trabalho, depois que a formação do império pôs fim à guerra entre os estados. Além disso, logo que a muralha ficasse terminada, teriam de ser colocados soldados em toda a sua extensão, assegurando-se assim que grande parte do exército seria mantida bem longe do capital. As primeiras construções surgiram antes da unificação do império, em 221 a.C. Ao unir sete reinos em um país, o imperador Qin Shihuang (259-210 a.C. - Dinastia Chin) começou a unificar a muralha, aproveitando as inúmeras fortificações construídas por reinos atuais. Com aproximadamente três mil quilômetros de extensão à época, foi ampliada nas dinastias seguintes. Com a morte do imperador Qin Shihuang, iniciou-se na China um período de agitações políticas e de revoltas, durante o qual os trabalhos na Grande Muralha ficaram paralisados. Com a ascensão da Dinastia Han ao poder, por volta de 206 a.C., reiniciou-se o crescimento chinês e os trabalhos na muralha foram retomados ao longo dos séculos até o seu esplendor na Dinastia Ming, por volta do século XV, quando adquiriu os atuais aspectos e uma extensão de cerca de sete mil quilômetros. Acredita-se que os trabalhos na muralha ocuparam a mão de obra de cerca de um milhão de operários (até 80% teriam perecido durante a sua construção, por causa da má alimentação e do frio), entre soldados, camponeses e prisioneiros. A magnitude da obra, entretanto, não impediu as incursões de mongóis, xiambeis e outros povos, que ameaçaram o império chinês ao longo de sua história. Por volta do século XVI perdeu a sua função estratégica, vindo a ser abandonada a partir de 1664, com a expansão chinesa na direção norte na Dinastia Qing. No século XX, na década de 1980, Deng Xiaoping deu prioridade à Grande Muralha como símbolo da China, estimulando uma grande campanha de restauração de diversos trechos. Porém, a requalificação do monumento como atração turística sem normas para a sua utilização adequada, aliada à falta de critérios técnicos para a restauração de alguns trechos (como o próximo a Jiayuguan, no Oeste do país, onde foi empregado cimento moderno sobre uma estrutura de pedra argamassada, que levou ao desabamento de uma torre de seiscentos e trinta anos), geraram várias críticas por parte dos preservacionistas, que estimam que cerca de dois terços do total do monumento estejam em ruínas
