The talk will be given by Mrs. Bernardine Ruddy, President of the Old Dublin Society - the premier history society for Dublin and Dubliners established in 1934. Booking is strongly recommended: dublinstudies@dublincity.ie or telephone: 01 6744999 Till its closure in 1967, Watson’s Nursery had a high profile in the world of horticulture. It was synonymous with quality and reliability with shops in Nassau Street and enjoyed an extensive mail order business at home and abroad. The move from Clontarf was due to being landlocked by the railway line and open sea. And so the move to Killiney was accomplished by 1920 and enabled them to enlarge their business. Now the Watson family name is perpetuated in the naming of the roads and avenues in Killiney, Co. Dublin forever more. The Old Dublin Society holds Spring and Autumn public talks on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays in Pearse Street Library & Archive at 6pm. Stop turning a blind eye to unacceptable practices that have been exposed. Many Irish people are horrified by how dogs are treated. Many Ex- Racing dogs have been shipped from Ireland to China, a country where dogs are routinely being boiled alive. The Irish Government have stood idly by as the IGB condone the export of ex- racing dogs. Many of the Irish dogs are ultimately at risk of being boiled alive in China for the meat trade. The Chinese don't care, the Irish Government don't care, The IGB couldnt care less either or they would not be allowing this. We urge a boycott of all travel to China and ask the Irish people to shun all Chinese goods and services until this injustice is stopped. read full story / add a comment international / elections / politics / news report Wednesday July 05, 2017 22:22 by Abby Wilhelm Ahead of President Trump's first G20 meeting in Germany this weekend, Mozambique released an audit exposing violations of the country's laws to secure now-defaulted loans. read full story / add a comment national / rights, freedoms and repression / event notice Wednesday July 05, 2017 13:22 by Free Tony Taylor Campaign 1 image Free Tony Taylor Protest British Embassy, Merrion Road Dublin 4 8/7/2017 2pm read full story / add a comment national / environment / news report Wednesday July 05, 2017 00:22 by sg 1 video file Ireland has become the fourth European country to ban hydraulic fracturing (after France, Bulgaria and Germany). Ryanair, which originally opposed the third runway, now supports it and came to court claiming it had a financial interest in the runway going ahead. FIE Director Tony Lowes commented: "We are deeply concerned that Ryanair, a company which denies the existence of climate change has now been accepted as a party to these proceedings. We are concerned that the court’s decision will skew the proceedings away from the environmental impacts of aviation towards commercial considerations. read full story / add a comment international / economics and finance / press release Wednesday June 28, 2017 16:55 by Abby Wilhelm Representatives Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Peter King (R-NY) heralded the House introduction of the Corporate Transparency Act at a press conference at the House Triangle. The fire spread with horrifying speed and witnesses describe heart-breaking scenes as people desperately tried to escape. It is a huge tragedy for the immediate community. Children have died; three generations of the same family have died. But rather than being torn apart, the community has come together in a remarkable display of human solidarity, supporting each other, collecting donations of goods and money, organising emergency accommodation, coordinating relief. The heroism, the courage, the self-sacrifice of the emergency services and of local residents is incredible. Who can fail to be moved by the scenes of the firefighters being applauded as they drove away from the scene? And there has naturally been a much wider outpouring of sympathy with the residents and families affected, with overwhelming donations of money, clothes, bedding, toys, nappies, etc. The true face of humanity has been shown in this solidarity. read full story / add a comment national / anti-war / imperialism / press release Sunday June 25, 2017 23:02 by ShannonWatch 1 attached file In reply to a parliamentary question from Clare Daly TD, the Minister for Transport Shane Ross TD provided details of permits granted to take munitions fo war through Irish airports and airspace over the period 1 Jan 2017 to 31 May 2017. read full story / add a comment international / economics and finance / photo-essay Sunday June 25, 2017 16:22 by Ba. 4 images FINANCE = FATALLY FLAWED read full story / add a comment international / eu / press release Friday June 23, 2017 17:28 by pn 1 image 1 attached file This issue of People’s News This issue of People’s News has an unusual number of articles on military matters, and regular readers will have noticed that over the past few months these types of articles have steadily increased in number. This reflects the alarmingly rapid development of an EU army and its support mechanisms. It is a development about which there is very little awareness in Ireland, and one that may have serious implications for us all. read full story / add a comment | UK Indymedia FeaturesTue May 02, 2017 01:55 UK Indymedia Features UK Indymedia : 1999 - 2016 Fri Apr 28, 2017 19:19 | IMC UK | en Build gardens not prisons Tue Sep 08, 2015 17:53 | anon | en Maximus: Same Circus, Different Clowns Thu Mar 05, 2015 21:42 | solidarity collective | en Police serve Bytemark with production order for Bristol Indymedia information Mon Sep 01, 2014 19:58 | UK Indymedia | en Police action against Bristol Indymedia Thu Aug 28, 2014 17:27 | UK Indymedia | en |
