Innsbruck, capital of Tirol alongside the surrounding villages is undeniably a great area located in the heart of the North Tyrolean Alps in Austria. The capital of alps is really an unique blend of alpine urban experiences – in a place where the mountains meet the valley and the city is one with nature.
Innsbruck was certainly one of the most picturesque and scenic place i have ever been to. This dream of a short getaway was 5 days long in early June 2016 alongside 3 of my best mates and I hope to visit Austria again in Future.

This trip was iconic because the day before our day in Austria, we had no idea this is what was going to happen. We were on a roadtrip to the mountains of northern Italy, but then saw that Innsbruck, Austria was only 2 hours further north, so we decided that it was worth the drive. The drive in was stunning, there were incredible vistas of the alps, with huge valleys flanked by stunning mountain peaks. It was truly a phenomenal drive. Also living in a period of my life where I was very infrequently driving, it was very refreshing to be back on the road after my epic adventure in the summer. It was truly iconic.

La Europabrücke (letteralmente: ponte Europa) è un viadotto austriaco che sormonta la valle Wipptal e il fiume Sill, nei pressi di Innsbruck in Austria.
Il ponte fa parte dell'autostrada del Brennero (lato austriaco: Brennerautobahn A13) e con la sua altezza dal fondo valle di 190 metri è uno dei ponti più alti d'Europa. Il ponte è lungo 657 metri, con una travata metallica a cassone larga 10 m e uno spessore variabile tra i 4,70 e i 7,70 metri.
La Europabrücke negli anni ottanta
La costruzione del ponte iniziò nel 1960 e il 17 novembre 1963 fu aperto al traffico, inizialmente con due corsie per carreggiata. Nel 1984 si decise di ampliare le carreggiate, allargando il ponte di 1,20 m per lato, rendendolo così una struttura a tre corsie per carreggiata.
Il ponte è transitabile a pagamento, con cifre diversificate a seconda del mezzo di locomozione. Si calcola che ogni giorno vi transitino 30.000 automezzi.
Curiosità:
Dal ponte vengono effettuati a richiesta dei lanci di bungee jumping.
Durante la costruzione del ponte, 22 persone sono decedute; alcune sono cadute accidentalmente all'interno dei piloni di sostegno, morendo. Secondo una leggenda metropolitana, i corpi non sono mai stati recuperati a causa della mancanza di mezzi tecnici che riuscissero a calarsi per prelevare le salme, o perché altrimenti la staticità del ponte non poteva essere garantita. Di conseguenza si dice che all'interno dei piloni di sostegno si trovino dei corpi umani cementati. In realtà esiste una precisa documentazione dove queste persone sono morte.

Innsbruck
Innsbruck (German: [ˈʔɪnsbʁʊk], local pronunciation: [ˈʔɪnʃprʊk]) is the capital city of the federal state of Tyrol (Tirol) in western Austria. It is located in the Inn Valley at the junction with the Wipptal (Sill River), which provides access to the Brenner Pass, some 30 km (18.6 mi) to the south.
Innsbruck lies about half way between Munich (Germany) and Verona (Italy). Located in the broad valley between high mountains, the so-called North Chain in the Karwendel Alps (Hafelekarspitze, 2,334 metres or 7,657 feet) to the north, and the Patscherkofel (2,246 m or 7,369 ft) and Serles (2,718 m or 8,917 ft) to the south.
Innsbruck is an internationally renowned winter sports centre, and hosted the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics as well as the 1984 and 1988 Winter Paralympics. Innsbruck also hosted the first Winter Youth Olympics in 2012. The word bruck comes from the same root as the modern German word "Brücke" meaning "bridge" which leads to "the bridge over the Inn".
History
Earliest traces suggest initial inhabitation in the early Stone Age. Surviving pre-Roman place names show that the area has been populated continuously. In the 4th century the Romans established the army station Veldidena (the name survives in today's urban district Wilten) at Oenipons (Innsbruck), to protect the economically important commercial road from Verona-Brenner-Augsburg.

Innsbruck, capital of Tirol alongside the surrounding villages is undeniably a great area located in the heart of the North Tyrolean Alps in Austria. The capital of alps is really an unique blend of alpine urban experiences – in a place where the mountains meet the valley and the city is one with nature. Innsbruck was certainly one of the most picturesque and scenic place i have ever been to. This dream of a short getaway was 5 days long in early June 2016 alongside 3 of my best mates and I hope to visit Austria again in Future. La Europabrücke (letteralmente: ponte Europa) è un viadotto austriaco che sormonta la valle Wipptal e il fiume Sill, nei pressi di Innsbruck in Austria. Il ponte fa parte dell'autostrada del Brennero (lato austriaco: Brennerautobahn A13) e con la sua altezza dal fondo valle di 190 metri è uno dei ponti più alti d'Europa. Il ponte è lungo 657 metri, con una travata metallica a cassone larga 10 m e uno spessore variabile tra i 4,70 e i 7,70 metri. This trip was iconic because the day before our day in Austria, we had no idea this is what was going to happen. We were on a roadtrip to the mountains of northern Italy, but then saw that Innsbruck, Austria was only 2 hours further north, so we decided that it was worth the drive. The drive in was stunning, there were incredible vistas of the alps, with huge valleys flanked by stunning mountain peaks. It was truly a phenomenal drive. Also living in a period of my life where I was very infrequently driving, it was very refreshing to be back on the road after my epic adventure in the summer. It was truly iconic.

This trip was iconic because the day before our day in Austria, we had no idea this is what was going to happen. We were on a roadtrip to the mountains of northern Italy, but then saw that Innsbruck, Austria was only 2 hours further north, so we decided that it was worth the drive. The drive in was stunning, there were incredible vistas of the alps, with huge valleys flanked by stunning mountain peaks. It was truly a phenomenal drive. Also living in a period of my life where I was very infrequently driving, it was very refreshing to be back on the road after my epic adventure in the summer. It was truly iconic.

La Europabrücke (letteralmente: ponte Europa) è un viadotto austriaco che sormonta la valle Wipptal e il fiume Sill, nei pressi di Innsbruck in Austria.
Il ponte fa parte dell'autostrada del Brennero (lato austriaco: Brennerautobahn A13) e con la sua altezza dal fondo valle di 190 metri è uno dei ponti più alti d'Europa. Il ponte è lungo 657 metri, con una travata metallica a cassone larga 10 m e uno spessore variabile tra i 4,70 e i 7,70 metri.
La Europabrücke negli anni ottanta
La costruzione del ponte iniziò nel 1960 e il 17 novembre 1963 fu aperto al traffico, inizialmente con due corsie per carreggiata. Nel 1984 si decise di ampliare le carreggiate, allargando il ponte di 1,20 m per lato, rendendolo così una struttura a tre corsie per carreggiata.
Il ponte è transitabile a pagamento, con cifre diversificate a seconda del mezzo di locomozione. Si calcola che ogni giorno vi transitino 30.000 automezzi.
Curiosità:
Dal ponte vengono effettuati a richiesta dei lanci di bungee jumping.
Durante la costruzione del ponte, 22 persone sono decedute; alcune sono cadute accidentalmente all'interno dei piloni di sostegno, morendo. Secondo una leggenda metropolitana, i corpi non sono mai stati recuperati a causa della mancanza di mezzi tecnici che riuscissero a calarsi per prelevare le salme, o perché altrimenti la staticità del ponte non poteva essere garantita. Di conseguenza si dice che all'interno dei piloni di sostegno si trovino dei corpi umani cementati. In realtà esiste una precisa documentazione dove queste persone sono morte.

The Alpenzoo, Golden Roof, Historic buildings, friendly people and quaint old town make Innsbruck a must for any traveler passing through central Europe.

My favorite places in Innsbruck were the Golden Roof, Maria-Theresien-Strasse, Imperial Palace, Imperial Chruch of Kenotaph Maximilian I, Ambras Castle, Cathedral of St. James and the Basilika Wilten. These places are all highly worth visiting.
Innsbruck became the capital of all Tyrol in 1429 and in the fifteenth century the city became a centre of European politics and culture as emperor Maximilian I also resided in Innsbruck in the 1490s.
The city benefited from the emperor's presence as can be seen for example in the so called Hofkirche. Here a funeral monument for Maximilian was planned and erected partly by his successors.
The ensemble with a cenotaph and the bronze statues of real and mythical ancestors of the Habsburgian emperor are one of the main artistic monuments of Innsbruck.
In 1938 Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany in the Anschluss. Between 1943 and April 1945, Innsbruck experienced twenty-two bomb attacks and suffered heavy damage. The KZ Innsbruck-Reichenau concentration camp was located here.

It boasts many ancient towns, monasteries and fortresses that highlight the region’s history.Kitzbühel was once a prosperous mining town but today it is a world famous ski resort that is also popular in the summer months. The old town, with its pretty middle class buildings that date back to the fifteenth century, is a fine example of Austria’s rural architecture. Westendorf was judged to be the most beautiful village in Europe and not without reason as it nestles picturesquely within a fertile high valley on the northern slopes of the Kitzbüheler Alps, an oasis of relaxation in contrast to the busy tourist centres of the surrounding area. The Fohlenhof Ebbs Stud at the foot of the Kaiser Mountains is the official location of the Tyrol Horse Breeding Union and is where the famous Haflinger horses are bred. Further west of the Inntal the Alpbach Tal leads into an untouched natural landscape. At an altitude of nine hundred and seventy five metres above sea level is the remote mountain village of Alpbach, the most beautiful village in the Tyrol which has maintained its traditional character with typical timber built farmhouses and balconies decorated with flowers. At the junction of Unter-Inntal and Ober-Inntal is the Tyrol’s metropolis of Innsbruck, the Florence Of The North. The nearby mountains form a magnificent backdrop for the Late Gothic city centre whose main street leads from the Triumph Pforte to as far as the Annasäule and then on to the Golden Dachl. Today this popular Alpine holiday region welcomes international visitors throughout the year and is most deservedly referred to as a natural treasure in the very heart of Europe!

This trip was iconic because the day before our day in Austria, we had no idea this is what was going to happen. We were on a roadtrip to the mountains of northern Italy, but then saw that Innsbruck, Austria was only 2 hours further north, so we decided that it was worth the drive. The drive in was stunning, there were incredible vistas of the alps, with huge valleys flanked by stunning mountain peaks. It was truly a phenomenal drive. Also living in a period of my life where I was very infrequently driving, it was very refreshing to be back on the road after my epic adventure in the summer. It was truly iconic.
