U.S. President Donald Trump’s standing with the American people has deteriorated since the spring, buffeted by perceptions of a decline in U.S. leadership abroad, a stalled presidential agenda at home and an unpopular Republican health-care bill, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The Courage To Continue -- Fort Collins, Colorado
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."
-- Winston Churchill

A brave little spider with only four legs perches on a three-leaf clover. He had obviously tangled with something that he had barely escaped alive from, but nonetheless appeared to be soldiering on. I wish him the best of luck.

The Story behind TensorFlow

Early in 2015, artificial-intelligence researchers at Google created an obscure piece of software called TensorFlow. Two years later the tool, which is used in building machine-learning software, underpins many future ambitions of Google and its parent company, Alphabet (see "50 Smartest Companies 2017.") TensorFlow makes it much easier for the company’s engineers to translate new approaches to artificial intelligence into practical code, improving services such as search and the accuracy of speech recognition. But just months after TensorFlow was released to Google’s army of coders, the company also began offering it to the world for free.

The Self-Funding President

Everyone's still sick of political campaigns -- except Donald Trump. He refiled for 2020 within a week or two of winning in 2016, and his campaign has been busy, busy, busy.

Donald Trump’s campaign operation raised nearly $14 million between the start of April and the end of June of this year, drawing in significant funds from several donors without histories of giving large amounts to federal campaigns, according to Federal Election Commission records.

The $13.9 million total was brought in by the Trump campaign and two joint fundraising committees set up to help raise money for Trump and the Republican National Committee.

Those would be the formal Trump for President Campaign, Trump Victory, and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee.

Gosh, remember back when Donald proudly proclaimed he was drawing from his own billions of dollars so that he could campaign as someone beholding to no swampy interests? Yeah, any semblance of that stopped when the general campaign started, and he's carrying on as usual with his "new" campaign.

That includes forgoing dependence on all those mom-n-pop donors.

The source of the funds raised by Trump’s joint fundraising arms shifted dramatically in recent months. While only $1.51 million of the committees' revenue came from donations of $200 or more between January and April 2017, about $7.48 million of the money raised this quarter was in the form of larger donations.

And for those who think this is Donald striking back against the establishment and proving he's not your run-of-the-mill Republican ...

The joint fundraising committees transferred $980,000 to the RNC. More than a dozen state parties also received transfers from Trump’s committees, including the Republican parties of Minnesota, Missouri and West Virginia.

The three organizations finished the quarter with almost $23M in the bank.

Not that he isn't spending money.

Trump’s campaign reported spending $4.37 million during the quarter. At least $221,363 was at Trump businesses, including rent paid to Trump Tower and lodging at the Trump International Hotel.

Yup! Those contributions are feeding Donald's personal bottom line. Great job if you can get it!

They are also [1] paying for more interesting stuff.

President Donald Trump appears to have used more than half a million dollars in campaign funds to pay legal fees over the last three months, new campaign filings show.

The spending included $50,000 in legal expenses to lawyer Alan Futerfas, who is now representing Donald Trump Jr., on June 27th.

Because why spend your own money on legally protecting yourself and your family from their actions, when you can have all those wealthy donors pay for you? That's definitely an artful deal!

Small and without fragrance

Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum)

Svartskog, Norway

This is the only part of the plant without the foul smelling glandular hairs, and quite rightly so, as no insect would want to come pollinate and get the sticky resin all over them. The resin is not as sticky and prominent as that of the sundew (Drosera sp), but the smaller insects do get overwhelmed with foul smell and resin, and thus keeps it free from gnawing insects. As the sticky glandular hairs grow all the way up to the petals, any insect wanting to take a chew out of the petals and the pollen need to have wings.

As with the other geranium, perhaps even all, it has no discernable scent, so it is only advertising its presence with the foul smell and the sight of these very small flowers. Perhaps a bit contradictory, yet it is undoubtedly working perfectly – otherwise it would not exist.

I think this is a species very few regard as a positive element in their garden, and is quickly removed as the “terrible weed” it is. I find it really fascinating up close, and I think that is why nobody finds it interesting. Who wants a plant in the garden you must go on your knees to enjoy - each petal is in fact just 8-12 mm long

Well – I do!

In autumn all their leaves will be a colorful palette of yellows, oranges and reds. So if not for their flowers, have them for their autumn display.
