Police seek witnesses to robberies and carjackings in Canberra's south

Updated

Police are calling for witnesses to a carjacking and series of attempted robberies in Canberra's southern suburbs on Monday night.

Investigators want to speak with anyone who has information or security camera footage from the July 17 incidents in Mawson, Wanniassa, Calwell and Gordon.

Canberra police said a man entered the Liquor Land store in Mawson about 5.10pm on Monday night, threatening staff with a knife and making demands for cash. A staff member refused to hand over money from the cash register before a short struggle took place.

The man left the store and drove away with another man in a silver Subaru Liberty.

Shortly after, two men approached a staff member outside the Domino's Pizza at Erindale shops in Wanniassa about 5.30pm, threatening the employee and demanding his wallet and keys. They followed the staff member to the back of the shop and demanded cash.

A second staff member chased the men from the store and the two offenders left the area in the same silver car.

In a third incident at about 5.50pm, a man left a silver sedan and approached a member of the public getting into a Toyota Rav 4 at the Calwell shops. The driver was threatened with a knife before he was assaulted, receiving minor injuries.

A silver sedan was involved in another incident at 6pm at the Gordon shops, when a man approached a woman and grabbed hold of her. He demanded her keys and wallet, which she handed over.

The man took the woman's blue Mazda 2 and drove away from the car park, following behind the silver sedan.

About 6.40pm, police received a report of a silver Subaru Liberty on fire near the intersection of Ashley Drive and Barraclough Street in Monash.
