Anse
Anse is a commune in the Rhône department in eastern France.
It is situated on the river Saône, approx. 7 km south of Villefranche-sur-Saône (near Lyon).
Councils of Anse
Several medieval councils were held in this French town.
That of 994 decreed, among other disciplinary measures, abstinence from servile labour after three o'clock (None) on Saturday, i.e. the observance of the vigil of Sunday.
The council of 1025 was held for the purpose of settling a conflict between the monks of Cluny Abbey and the Bishop of Mâcon, who complained that, though their monastery was situated in his diocese, the monks had obtained ordination from the Archbishop of Vienne. St. Odilon of Cluny was present and exhibited a papal privilege exempting his monastery from the episcopal jurisdiction of Mâcon. But the fathers of the council caused to be read the ancient canons ordaining that in every country the abbots and monks should be subject to their own bishop, and declared null a privilege contrary to the canons. The Archbishop of Vienne was required to apologize to the Bishop of Mâcon.

We started our trips to explore the island in terms of sightseeing and surfspots from a camp in Le Moule. It is also bit different than those on the western side of the island: it is facing the open water, there is no reef to break the waves. - Bear in mind that the waves can be quite big and the currents are strong. Elle culmine à 3 071 mètres d'altitude au sommet du piton des Neiges et abrite par ailleurs l'un des volcans les plus actifs du monde : le piton de la Fournaise. Ce dernier accroît épisodiquement la superficie de ce territoire d'environ 200 kilomètres de circonférence, lequel jouit sur ses 2 512 kilomètres carrés actuels d'un endémisme exceptionnel.
La Réunion est un département d'outre-mer (code départemental « 974 ») qui est devenu également une région ultrapériphérique de l'Union européenne. Néanmoins, et en dépit de son appartenance à la zone euro, son tissu productif reste structurellement fragile et fortement dépendant de la France métropolitaine. On y relève un taux de chômage particulièrement élevé, de l'ordre de 29 %, dont 60 % chez les jeunes3. Au dernier recensement en vigueur, celui de 2012, la population est de 833 944 habitants4. Slavery was abolished on 20 December 1848 , after which indentured workers were brought from South India, among other places. The island became an overseas department of France in 1946. The local language, spoken by the majority of the population, is Réunion Creole. The official language is French. Administratively, Réunion is one of the overseas departments of France. Like the other four overseas departments, it is also one of the 18 regions of France, with the modified status of overseas regions, and an integral part of the Republic with the same status as those situated on the European mainland. Réunion is an outermost region of the European Union and, as an overseas department of France, a part of the Eurozone.

La Réunion (La Rényon en créole) est une île du sud-ouest de l'océan Indien dans l'hémisphère sud, devenue un département et une région d'outre-mer français (DROM). Elle est située dans l'archipel des Mascareignes à environ 700 kilomètres à l'est de Madagascar et à 170 kilomètres au sud-ouest de l'île Maurice, terre la plus proche. Bénéficiant d'un climat tropical et située sur la route des cyclones, elle présente un relief escarpé travaillé par une érosion très marquée. Elle culmine à 3 071 mètres d'altitude au sommet du piton des Neiges et abrite par ailleurs l'un des volcans les plus actifs du monde : le piton de la Fournaise. Ce dernier accroît épisodiquement la superficie de ce territoire d'environ 200 kilomètres de circonférence, lequel jouit sur ses 2 512 kilomètres carrés actuels d'un endémisme exceptionnel.
La Réunion est un département d'outre-mer (code départemental « 974 ») qui est devenu également une région ultrapériphérique de l'Union européenne. Néanmoins, et en dépit de son appartenance à la zone euro, son tissu productif reste structurellement fragile et fortement dépendant de la France métropolitaine. On y relève un taux de chômage particulièrement élevé, de l'ordre de 29 %, dont 60 % chez les jeunes3. Au dernier recensement en vigueur, celui de 2012, la population est de 833 944 habitants4. TIPS IF YOU VISIT:
- One of the most beautiful beaches of La Digue. It is also bit different than those on the western side of the island: it is facing the open water, there is no reef to break the waves.
- Bear in mind that the waves can be quite big and the currents are strong. It is ok to walk into the water to cool down and have fun with the waves but do not swim out to the open water.
- You can only find some shade in the northern tip of the beach. The waves are also a bit smaller at this side of the bay. The drawback is that you will have to share the beach here with others.
- You can get to the beach with a 20 minutes bike ride from the village. You have to cross the island so expect some hilly parts. It is manageable for anyone with average fitness. The road is in good condition and mostly runs under trees with shade. Still, take plenty of water and be prepared that you will feel very hot regardless of the part of the day.
- There is a bar where you arrive to the beach. They have ice cold drinks and they grill fish in lunchtime.
