Today, we’ll be reviewing the Saris Freedom Bike Rack, which is a 2 bike, universal hitch rack. What is meant by “universal” is that it can carry any bike, save for frankenstein bikes like recumbents and trikes.
Hybrid bikes, full suspension mountain bikes, and even beach cruisers are easy to carry with this setup. My last rack was a Saris Bones, which I would consider one of the best racks you can strap to a vehicle. It could carry none of these bikes.
The Saris Freedom rack is among many other more expensive universal hitch racks, and at price point below $250 it’s definitely one of the most affordable racks in the category.
All vehicles are different, but I had a 1 1/4” receiver installed on my Mazda CX5 for $175 at Uhaul. Since all I’ll be using it for is this rack, it’s perfectly sized and ready for use. If you have a larger receiver, an adapter is included to make it fit.
Compared to other universal hitch racks, I’d say the Saris Freedom rack is pretty much just as easy to use as anything else out there. There are three straps per bike, while some of the more expensive units have one bracket and two traps, or an entirely different restraint system altogether. All in all, we’re talking about a matter of seconds to mount or remove a bike, so to me it’s not very important.
I’d also like to mention that my rear lift-gate actually clears the rack somehow, which I never expected. Even my backup camera is still somewhat usable with two bikes mounted to it.
So when we consider the upsides, the rack is inexpensive, easy to use, stable, and versatile. So what are the downsides?
Well, it may be a matter of opinion but I think the rack looks kinda messy. If you’re leaving it on your car the bulk of the time it has a lot of straps hanging around, so it’s not a pretty sight. If you’re OCD, you could tuck them in and collapse the top part, which makes it look much neater.
The second downside is durability. The two tire trays on the front of the rack broke within the first 4 months of owning it. In all fairness one of them was definitely my fault, while the other one may or may not have been due to someone backing into the car in a parking lot. I didn’t see it break, so I’ll never know.
I called Saris, and without hesitation they took down my mailing address and sent me two replacements free of charge. I think it might have been the best warranty experience I’ve ever had. So, at least they stand by their products.
All in all, I would recommend this rack to anyone looking for an affordable 2 bike universal hitch rack. Considering many of us will need to lay out money for a receiver and a rack, a more expensive unit could quickly become a $600 investment. For me, the Saris Freedom does the job just fine.

Saris
Saris (Arabic: ساريس) was a Palestinian Arab village that was depopulated during the major offensive launched by the Haganah on 6 April 1948. Called Operation Nachshon, and launched before the British had left Palestine, its objective was to capture villages between Jerusalem and the coastal plain.
History
Yaqut al-Hamawi noted about Saris in the 1220s that it was "a village of the district round Jerusalem. It lies half-way between Jerusalem and Ar Ramlah, and 4 hours from either place".
Ottoman era
During Ottoman rule in Palestine, in 1596, Saris was a village in the nahiya (subdistrict) of Jerusalem under the liwa' (district) of Jerusalem and it had a population of 292. The villagers paid taxes on a number of crops, including wheat, barley, olives fruit and carob, as well as on goats, beehives and vineyards.
In 1863, the French explorer Victor Guérin found Saris to have an apparently ancient water well, while the houses looked "dilapidated". An Ottoman village list of about 1870 counted 57 houses and a population of 169, though the population count included only men.

Today, we’ll be reviewing the Saris Freedom Bike Rack, which is a 2 bike, universal hitch rack. What is meant by “universal” is that it can carry any bike, save for frankenstein bikes like recumbents and trikes.
Hybrid bikes, full suspension mountain bikes, and even beach cruisers are easy to carry with this setup. My last rack was a Saris Bones, which I would consider one of the best racks you can strap to a vehicle. It could carry none of these bikes.
The Saris Freedom rack is among many other more expensive universal hitch racks, and at price point below $250 it’s definitely one of the most affordable racks in the category.
All vehicles are different, but I had a 1 1/4” receiver installed on my Mazda CX5 for $175 at Uhaul. Since all I’ll be using it for is this rack, it’s perfectly sized and ready for use. If you have a larger receiver, an adapter is included to make it fit.
Compared to other universal hitch racks, I’d say the Saris Freedom rack is pretty much just as easy to use as anything else out there. There are three straps per bike, while some of the more expensive units have one bracket and two traps, or an entirely different restraint system altogether. All in all, we’re talking about a matter of seconds to mount or remove a bike, so to me it’s not very important.
I’d also like to mention that my rear lift-gate actually clears the rack somehow, which I never expected. Even my backup camera is still somewhat usable with two bikes mounted to it.
So when we consider the upsides, the rack is inexpensive, easy to use, stable, and versatile. So what are the downsides?
Well, it may be a matter of opinion but I think the rack looks kinda messy. If you’re leaving it on your car the bulk of the time it has a lot of straps hanging around, so it’s not a pretty sight. If you’re OCD, you could tuck them in and collapse the top part, which makes it look much neater.
The second downside is durability. The two tire trays on the front of the rack broke within the first 4 months of owning it. In all fairness one of them was definitely my fault, while the other one may or may not have been due to someone backing into the car in a parking lot. I didn’t see it break, so I’ll never know.
I called Saris, and without hesitation they took down my mailing address and sent me two replacements free of charge. I think it might have been the best warranty experience I’ve ever had. So, at least they stand by their products.
All in all, I would recommend this rack to anyone looking for an affordable 2 bike universal hitch rack. Considering many of us will need to lay out money for a receiver and a rack, a more expensive unit could quickly become a $600 investment. For me, the Saris Freedom does the job just fine.

Packing Tips
1. Make a checklist. You can make the physical checklist on paper or digital checklist on your phone, tablet or laptop which can be updated as per your type of vacation. To make digital checklists you can you can download free apps like Google Keep and Evernote or just use preinstalled apps like Notes on your phone.
2. Before you start packing bring everything at one place so that you don’t miss anything
3. Choose your outfits smartly. Use wrinkle free and light tops which can be paired with 2-3 pants, Shorts or Capris.
4. Keep different items like lingerie, toiletries, makeup, jewellery etc. in separate pouches so that they don’t get mixed with other clothes and can be easily found when needed.
5. Use miniature travelling bottles to carry toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc.
6. To save space roll all your clothes instead of folding them.
7. To carry traditional clothes, use a big saree bag to keep them segregated from other clothes.
8. Use special jewellery bag to keep your expensive heavy traditional jewellery and a shoe bag to keep fancy sandals.
Hope these tips will help you pack your luggage light and organised.

1. Make a checklist. You can make the physical checklist on paper or digital checklist on your phone, tablet or laptop which can be updated as per your type of vacation. To make digital checklists you can you can download free apps like Google Keep and Evernote or just use preinstalled apps like Notes on your phone.
2. Before you start packing bring everything at one place so that you don’t miss anything
3. Choose your outfits smartly. Use wrinkle free and light tops which can be paired with 2-3 pants, Shorts or Capris.
4. Keep different items like lingerie, toiletries, makeup, jewellery etc. in separate pouches so that they don’t get mixed with other clothes and can be easily found when needed.
5. Use miniature travelling bottles to carry toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc.
6. To save space roll all your clothes instead of folding them.
7. To carry traditional clothes, use a big saree bag to keep them segregated from other clothes.
8. Use special jewellery bag to keep your expensive heavy traditional jewellery and a shoe bag to keep fancy sandals.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number SA-984. This is the eight-foot cable lock and anti-rattle hitch lock for your Saris hitch-mounted bike racks. The anti-rattle hitch pin and lock is going to secure your Saris bike rack to your vehicles hitch. This will work with racks that have inch and a quarter and two inch threaded shanks. Also, it's going to help eliminate noise and movement of the rack in your hitch. It really secures the bike rack to one side of the hitch, takes out a lot of that rattle and play from within the hitch during travel. That's going to consist of a lock body, a bolt and a lock washer.

Traveling India: Varanasi. Known as India's Holy City, Varanasi is situated on the banks of the sacred Ganges river and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
During our stay here, we certainly experienced ups and downs. There were serene mornings spent sipping masala chai and gazing into beautiful sunrises over the ganges... combined with intermittent moments of me on the edge of freaking out from the intense noise, traffic and overcrowding. As anywhere in India, beware of getting caught in crowded narrow pathways with men, young boys or bulls, where groping and goring can occur.
We found the best masala chai at the rooftop restaurant of Puja guest house, they also have the best 360 degree view of the ganges and city. However we found the rooms at Ganpati Guest House to be in better condition, though we still returned to Puja for masala chai and the views.
Niyati Cafe is an excellent pure vegetarian restaurant, Ravi Prakash is the chef and owner. He makes each dish fresh to order, the food is bursting with flavorful authentic Indian spices and at the best prices in town, Niyati Cafe is a winner.
Varanasi has some of the best street bazaar shopping. If visiting here, allow for plenty of time to enjoy browsing the unique items in the many local shops. Shopkeepers are eager to show you loads of scarves, saris, bangles, and more!

1) Few architectural wonders can compete with the Petronas Towers. Equally as impressive by day as they are at night, it is an absolute must landmark to visit in Kuala Lumpur.
2) Night markets in Malaysia are well worth a visit. My personal favorite is the Jonker Street Night Market located in Melaka. On the weekends Jonker street shuts down to traffic and turns into a sea of people and stalls selling everything from trinkets to street food. While we were there we made sure to cool down with Cendol, which is our favorite Malaysian street food snack.
3) The Batu Caves are of my favorite attractions that is absolutely free! Taking the commuter train from KL Sentral we arrived early in the morning before all of the package tourists. The caves themselves, an important Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan, are worth the 272 step climb to the top. You'll notice many of cheeky monkeys.
4) The KL Bird Park is a quirky attraction worth checking out. Its claim to fame is being the largest walk in aviary. Home to thousands of birds you'll be able to spot peacocks, flamingos and many other exotic ones.
5) While you're in Georgetown, Penang consider visiting a recently opened cat cafe! The Purrfect Cat Cafe in George Town is home to some adorable cats.
6) Whenever I head back to Malaysia I can't help but break out in a smile because I know I'm going to get a chance to eat dim sum.
7) When I mentioned Malaysia was a diverse country, I was referring to the people and cuisine. Indian food is one of my favorite cuisines and having the opportunity to eat a delicious banana leaf thali set is something I wouldn't miss for the world. Loaded up with rice, dal, vegetables, roti, papad, chutney and pickles. Coming in at only 22 Ringgit (for the two of us) it's an inexpensive but delicious meal.
8) Want to visit the biggest Buddhist temple in all of Southeast Asia? Would you be surprised to learn that it is in Malaysia? Kek Lok Si temple, also known as the Temple of Supreme Bliss, is located in Air Itam. The temple combines Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese rituals. To visit take bus 201, 203 or 204 from Komplex Komptar in the heart of George Town, Penang.
9) The Petronas Towers are brilliant by day but 'wow' do they ever shine bright at night. They have really cool light shows.
10) You can't visit Malaysia without having Roti Canai for breakfast, lunch, dinner and/or a snack. An Indian flat bread, similar to a pancake, it comes in all different sizes, shapes and flavors. Our two favorites being cheese and banana.
11) While in Malacca it's a great idea to take a Melaka River Cruise at night as the city really lights up at night. You'll notice wonderful old colonial architecture and street art along with traditional homes alongside the Kampong.
12) The Clan Jetties are an important part of George Town's heritage and the last bastions of old Chinese settlements.
13) Georgetown is one of the most hot and humid cities I've ever visited. If you're looking to escape that for a while head over to the Botanical Gardens just outside of the city. In shady conditions you'll have the opportunity to walk around this massive park where you'll surely spot monkeys and other wildlife.
14) When visiting Malacca be sure to check out a Baba-Nyonya restaurant. A mixture of Chinese and Malaysian cuisine at its finest. Some of our favorite dishes included Nyonya Laksa, Rojak and Popiah.
15) Bling. Bling. That's not the sound of a horn but instead the decorations on a rickshaw in George Town. For around 30 to 40 Ringgit you can take a full one hour city tour. It certainly beats walking around in the heat. Highlights for us included going through Little India.

We especially recommend Jhankar restaurant where we had the best Rajasthani Thali (थाली) and regular Thali during our entire India travels. Jodhpur (जोधपुर) is also worth exploring on foot or tuk-tuk where you can just get lost down the myriad of colorful alleys. For dinner we suggest rooftop views at a restaurant where you can clearly see Mehrangarh Fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) lit up at night. It is just as spectacular by night as it is by day.

Jodhpur City Guide | India Travel Series in Rajasthan Video Transcript:
Our first stop in Jodhpur was Mehrangarh Fort, which is one of the biggest forts in India. The fort sits on a rocky hill overlooking the city and it pretty much dominates the skyline with its imposing walls. Admission to the fort itself is free, but if you’ve come all the way here, you’ll want to pay the admission to visit the palaces which now act as a museum.
Within the fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) you can also visit the ramparts, see the old cannons, and get some overhead views of the city which will quickly help you realize why Jodhpur (जोधपुर) is nicknamed the Blue City.
Then, after all that food and drink, it was finally time to get lost in the blue maze that is Jodhpur.
So right now we have ended up at the Sardar Market (सरदार बाजार) just around the clock tower (Ghanta Ghar). And I would say this is both a local market and a tourist market. You can get produce and like everyday things. Yeah, you see a lot of everyday like market stalls but you also see some more ones that are geared for tourists such as the ones where you can souvenirs, carpets and saris.

And it is all about Thali (थाली) tonight. We are going to get an original Thali (थाली) and a Rajasthani Thali (राजस्थानी खाना). Because we are in Rajasthan (राजस्थान ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ) and they have a special Thali so we can't wait to try that out. Now it is off to find a little tuk-tuk. Alright, lead the way. Lead the way.
And that’s it for Jodhpur! Our two-day visit was short and sweet, but it was enough to get a taste of what the city is all about.
So that is a wrap from Jodhpur (जोधपुर). So we had a really good time in the Blue City. Um, it was only two days but I felt like we did quite a bit. Did you enjoy it? Yeah, the fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) was magnificent and the blue city was all it was supposed to be. Yes, so now we're moving on to Jaipur. We're just waiting at the train station. So we're going to catch our train. It is about a 6 hour journey. So relatively not too long but uh yeah can't wait to update you when we get there. Ciao for now.

For dinner we suggest rooftop views at a restaurant where you can clearly see Mehrangarh Fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) lit up at night. It is just as spectacular by night as it is by day.

Jodhpur City Guide | India Travel Series in Rajasthan Video Transcript:
Our first stop in Jodhpur was Mehrangarh Fort, which is one of the biggest forts in India. The fort sits on a rocky hill overlooking the city and it pretty much dominates the skyline with its imposing walls. Admission to the fort itself is free, but if you’ve come all the way here, you’ll want to pay the admission to visit the palaces which now act as a museum.
Within the fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) you can also visit the ramparts, see the old cannons, and get some overhead views of the city which will quickly help you realize why Jodhpur (जोधपुर) is nicknamed the Blue City.
Then, after all that food and drink, it was finally time to get lost in the blue maze that is Jodhpur.
So right now we have ended up at the Sardar Market (सरदार बाजार) just around the clock tower (Ghanta Ghar). And I would say this is both a local market and a tourist market. You can get produce and like everyday things. Yeah, you see a lot of everyday like market stalls but you also see some more ones that are geared for tourists such as the ones where you can souvenirs, carpets and saris.

We did a lot of shopping during my travel in Sri Lanka, and here I'm showing you some of the things as well as giving you an idea of the prices. Most of it was saris of different colours and textures, some sarongs and shalwar kameez along with more touristy stuff ;)

I'm Mark Wiens and thank you very much for watching this video about a few of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur, a city that just happens to be one of my favorite cities to visit in Southeast Asia. It's the largest and probably the most important and influential city in Malaysia and truly has some amazing sites to offer. Along with modern skyrise towers like the Petronas Towers, there are still lots of traditional historic buildings as well. The awesome mixture of cultures, the mix of traditional and modern, and very importantly, the outstanding cuisine is what makes Kuala Lumpur such a great city to explore!
1. On this list of top things to do in Kuala Lumpur I first stop by the most famous landmark of the the city: the Petronas Towers. These twin giant sky scrapers are huge, and they literally reach towards the heavens and touch the clouds. On the bottom of the Petronas Towers is a pretty fancy shopping mall while the tops of the towers are filled with offices. On the 41st and 42nd floor, there is a sky bridge which connects the two towers together and which is open for visitors. Years ago, it used to be free entrance but unfortunately now they have started to charge a rather steep 80 Malaysian Ringgits per person.
2. After the visiting the Petronas towers, number two on the list is the historical district of old Kuala Lumpur. Visiting and walking around the area is one of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur and you shouldn't miss the opportunity. From Merdeka Square to the old railroad station, you'll see some amazing architecture and buildings. Another must visit is the National Mosque, which is known as Masjid Negara. With a capacity of 15,000, this is the central and most visited mosque in the city.
3. The Menara KL Tower, along with the Petronas Towers, is one of the dominating features of Kuala Lumpur's skyline. At 421 meters in height, it's one of the world's tallest communications towers. I was lucky enough to be invited to the annual BASE jumping event which was held at the KL Tower so I had a pass to go to the top for the incredible view and to see the event (http://migrationology.com/2012/10/jordan-kilgore-base-jump-kuala-lumpur/). The KL Tower also offer look out viewpoints and a number of restaurants where you can dine with an incredible view.
4. Number 4 is Little India which is better known as Brickfields. Kuala Lumpur is home to many Indian's many from the south of the country. Brickfields is a popular place to browse, shop for all sorts of Indian products and most importantly to eat at some seriously delicious Indian restaurants. If you're looking for good Indian food in Kuala Lumpur, check out this restaurant: http://migrationology.com/2012/11/south-indian-food-kuala-lumpur-vishalatchi/
5. Chinatown, located on Petaling Street, is one of the biggest Kuala Lumpur attractions. It's mostly known for it street shopping and restaurants. You can find all sorts of fake brand names and nearly everything imaginable.
6. Thean Hou Temple is one of the most impressive Daoist temples in Kuala Lumpur. It's free to visit and offers insights into the Hainanese community in the city and there are also great views of the city.
7. Central Market, is a top tourist shopping attraction in Kuala Lumpur. Though many of the products are rather touristy, there are some good things waiting to be found.
8. Within central Kuala Lumpur are the KL Lake Gardens and Bird Park. It makes a great tropical escape to the bustling city life.
9. The Batu Caves, located just outside the central part of the city is one of the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur. The caves and shrines are one of the most sacred Hindu sites outside of India.
10. Chow Kit Market is the central fresh wet market in the city. Everyday thousands of shoppers get their Malaysian food ingredients at this interesting market.
11. Malaysian food is the ultimate attraction to visiting Kuala Lumpur. With a great mixture of local Malay, Chinese, and Indian, there's no shortage of incredible dining that will leave you satisfied and hungry for more! For myself, eating is one of the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur!
