Finland (i/ˈfɪnlənd/; Finnish: Suomi [suomi]; Swedish: Finland [ˈfɪnland]), officially the Republic of Finland, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, a peninsula with Gulf of Finland to the south and Gulf of Bothnia to the west. It has land borders with Sweden and Norway to the north and Russia to the east. Finland is part of the geographic region of Fennoscandia, which also includes Scandinavia and parts of Russia.
Finland's population is 5.5 million (2014), staying roughly on the same level with only about 9% increase in 24 years since the last economic depression in 1990. The majority live in the southern regions. The single largest group of foreigners living in Finland are Russians and Estonians, 36% of all of the foreigners (2014). In terms of area, it is the eighth largest country in Europe and the most sparsely populated country in the European Union. Finland is a parliamentary republic with a central government based in the capital Helsinki, local governments in 317 municipalities, and an autonomous region, the Åland Islands. Over 1.4 million people live in the Greater Helsinki metropolitan area, which produces a third of the country's GDP. Other large cities include Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Jyväskylä, Lahti, and Kuopio.

Finland is rethinking how it teaches in the digital age - and is seeking to place skills, as much as subjects, at the heart of what it does. But some fear it will harm academic standards. A few pointers from my experience on things one should either do or avoid while in Finland. So some Finnish do's and don'ts! :) *On a side note, I know I haven't been posting videos in ages. I'm not abandoning this or my second channel! This semester has been my biggest workload of all time, from any of my years of schooling. Doesn't help that I'm doing extra credit as well xD Over achiever... haha. Video making is super time consuming, just editing this video took me 6 hours including the rendering so if you count in filming it eats up an entire day. I love doing it though so hopefully next semester I'll manage my time better! Now off to study for finals, have a nice day everyone! :) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ♡ Social Media ♡ ● Twitter: https://twitter.com/kat...
One of my favorite things to do in a new country is to explore local markets and grocery stores and in our latest travel video from Finland we're on a quest to buy some local Finnish foods and goods as presents at a Finnish grocery store in the town of Dalsbruk, Finland (Taalintehdas, Finland). We're going to give you a little tour of a Finnish supermarket and we'll see what strange food items we can find. So smoked salmon is very popular food over here. You eat it with Rye bread. That's something we had almost everyday. Revisiting Finland - aside from getting married - was the highlight of our summer. We had a chance to spend time in Helsinki again while spending the majority of our days engaging in outdoors activities including kayaking, biking, cycling, walking, boating and horseback riding to name just a few. On a quest to try as many authentic Finnish foods as we possibly can, we ended up visiting an outdoor terrace which served Reindeer meat and samplers of Finnish beers in Helsinki, Finland. I have to admit, sinking my teeth into Reindeer cold cuts felt terribly wrong. Growing up, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was one of my childhood heroes. How could I possibly eat Santa's Little Helper? As I've traveled around the world, I've decided I'm willing to try anything once. As a culture vulture I want to experience as much authentic local cuisine as possible. And when in Finland you eat Reindeer. Paddington, Jyväskylä, Finland. In spring of 2014 I started climbing again after 4 years brake because of my illness. After a few sessions I decided that Im am going to climb 8A boulder in the fall. I chose Paddington in Jyväskylä as my route. In the fall I felt pretty out of shape since I hadn't been able to climb much due to my poor health. And the little I was able to climb in past year was really easy stuff. In November I felt stronger but the weather was awful. Finally I noticed a few day weather window and I decided to drive to Jyväskylä immediately. For me that was really important challenge. In search for the best winter spots Kristin & I went on a road trip through Lapland in Finland and checked out all the things to do in Lapland and it was magical! More info: http://www.bemytravelmuse.com/things-to-do-in-lapland/ I know it took a while to finish editing this video as I had to struggle with the 4k video data I got from my new toy: the drone. I'm now able to shoot lovely aerial footage to give you an even broader picture of the destination. Our trip to finnish Lapland started in Rovaniemi with the visit of the Santa Claus village where we said hi to Santa himself and had some fun tubing and drinking at the ice bar in Snowman World. Snowmobiling was a great way to start our second day & I would say it's one of the must dos in Lapland for sure! Next stop was the area of Yl...

http://bookinghunter.com Helsinki is the capital and largest city of Finland. Helsinki is spread across a number of bays and peninsulas and over a number of islands. The inner city area occupies a southern peninsula, which is rarely referred to by its actual name Vironniemi. The most important places to visit in Helsinki are: Helsinki Cathedral (one of the most iconic landmarks of Helsinki. A neoclassical styled 19th century church, it is a must see for all visitors), Suomenlinna Island (short ferry ride from Helsinki, it has an imposing 19th century fortress. The site is on the UNESCO world heritage list), Uspenski Cathedral (built in 1868, it is Western Europe's largest Orthodox church. Russia's influence is evident in it is red façade), National Museum of Finland (located in a gorgeou...

Travel video about destination Lapland in Finland. Finnish Lapland is a region of around ninety four thousand square kilometres covered by forests and marshland, similar to Swedish Lapland. The local inhabitants live in harmony with nature and the six thousand five hundred Sami people have managed to preserve their unique landscape right up until the present day. Rovaniemi is a modern and lively main town in northern Finland and the gateway to Lapland. The famous Arktikum Museum provides a comprehensive insight into life in the Artic Circle. Two large rivers, the Ounasjoki and the Kemijoki, meet in Rovaniemi from were lumberjacks and gold prospectors once embarked upon their pioneering adventures. Today the city is a centre of tourism. Pajakyla is the home of Santa Claus and is open throug...

Finnish Lapland is the extraordinary region on the northern edge of the world. It's a land full of extremes. When it's quiet, it's dead silent. When it's light, it's light 24/7. And when it's dark, it's dark for week after week. Lapland and northern Finland are among the world's last wildernesses, which you can experience with the help of modern infrastructure and a wide range of services. No children, no partner, no work. But you still have to call and check in, of course, to confirm proof of life, your partner tells you with a certain sardonic tone. You obviously have to read emails too, just in case your office forecasts the apocalypse and you aren’t there to say ‘I knew it, I saw it coming’. The modern holiday has become a Living TV documentary, where you board a low-cost flight and head somewhere ‘warm’ to try and get business-grade drunk. There are only a few differences between business drunk and normal drunk: business drunk means it’s still acceptable to drive. Of course, even if you aren’t aiming for a tourist hotspot destination, chances are you will have to encounter the proletariat ‘on tour’ at the airport. Cue the whiskey and narcotics to dull the ache. So, ho...

These things moved me when I turned my back.
Now I return with open hands.
I found light that lead me to the shrine where children sang and pilgrims mourned.
I was lost but not alone.
From a distance they come alive.
Sleepwalking across the plains.
No answers were found here.
Seeking shelter in her embrace.
Down on sore knees.
Erase and begin.
