This interview was filmed in April 1984. Rock Hudson passed away on October 2, 1985. Ironically, during this interview, he told me, "I will not be sick". A charming and giving man with enormous talent. We lost him too soon.

2/27/1989. Following Hudson's death, Marc Christian, Hudson's former lover, sued his estate on grounds of "intentional infliction of emotional distress". Christian claimed Hudson continued having sex with him until February 1985, more than eight months after Hudson knew he had HIV. Although he repeatedly tested negative for HIV, Christian claimed that he suffered from "severe emotional distress" after learning from a newscast that Hudson had died of AIDS. Christian also sued Hudson's personal secretary, Mark Miller, for $10 million because Miller allegedly lied to him about Hudson's illness. In 1989, a jury awarded Christian $21.75 million in damages, later reduced to $5.5 million. Christian died of "pulmonary problems" caused by years of heavy smoking in June 2009.

She received $250 a week for 10 years and sold jewelry he had given her to help get by through the years.

Rock Hudson’s AIDS diagnosis raised awareness about the disease, to be the major turning point of the disease ,1991.
While today it is common knowledge that '50s screen heartthrob Rock Hudson was gay, in his Hollywood heyday his studio, Universal, went to great lengths to project his image of what was then considered an all-American man. The actor's agent, Henry Willson, even went so far as to arrange for Hudson to marry Willson's secretary, Phyllis Gates. While Hollywood insiders knew the true nature of the union, apparently -- according to newly released transcripts from the archives of a private detective hired by Gates -- Mrs. Rock Hudson also suspected as much and confronted her husband about it. As revealed in the Hollywood Reporter magazine's June 14 issue, Hudson was secretly taped by private eye Fred Otash on Jan. 21, 1958, three years into the ill-fated marriage. Confronting her husband a...

Director: Douglas Sirk One of Sirk's women's picture, this film has been praised both as a critique of American bourgeois values and as a poignant working through of the contradictions faced by women in patriarchal society. The film presents events through the point of view of its central female protagonist Cary (Jane Wyman), using the visual codes of mise en scène to indicate her state of mind. This ironic use of mise en scène can be read either as an attempt by the director to comment on the conservative values supposedly adhered to in the melodrama's subject matter, or as part of melodramatic convention in which stylised mise en scène is used to offer the audience privileged information over characters. In the family melodrama, it has been argued, dramatic conflict is engendered by work...

Showdown is a 1973 American Western film produced and directed by George Seaton. It stars Rock Hudson, Dean Martin and Susan Clark. Looks at the challenges facing gay artists in Hollywood past and present. Hollywood in the 1920s was the most homosexual friendly place to be as most of the behind-the-camera staff were gay. However, for those in front of the camera there was no tolerance from the movie-going public. Any homosexual who wanted to maintain a career had to remain in a well-locked closet. During the 1950s, the studios provided their own "police" who would be the first to arrive at any scene of an "indiscretion" or other scandalous act. Their task was to collect and remove any evidence and then call the real police if necessary. The studios, wanting to safeguard their investments, even forced male gay actors, like Rock Hudson and Cary Grant, into sham marriages.
