Fire Emblem

Fire Emblem (ファイアーエムブレム, Faiā Emuburemu) is a tactical role-playing video game franchise developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. First produced and published for the Famicom, the series currently consists of fifteen games, including remakes, across multiple game systems. Described by its creators as an "RPG simulation", the gameplay revolves around tactical movement of characters across grid-based environments, while incorporating a story and characters similar to those in a more traditional role-playing video game. A noted aspect of gameplay is the permanent death of characters in battle, removing them from the rest of the game should they be defeated. The series title refers to a recurring object, often portrayed as a weapon or shield, representing the power of war and dragons, a recurring element in the series.

Development of the first game began as a dōjin project by Shouzou Kaga and three other developers. Its success prompted the development of further titles in the series. Kaga headed each one until the release of Thracia 776, when he left the company and founded his own game studio.

Path of Exile

Path of Exile is an online action role-playing game developed and published by Grinding Gear Games. It is a free-to-play title supported by microtransactions. An open beta was released in 23 January 2013, and the game was officially released on 23 October 2013.

Gameplay

The player controls a single character from an overhead perspective and explores large outdoor areas and underground caves or dungeons, battling monsters and fulfilling quests from NPCs to gain experience points and equipment. The game borrows heavily from the Diablo series, particularly Diablo II. All areas aside from the central encampments are randomly generated for increased re-playability. While all players on a single server can freely mingle in encampments, gameplay outside of encampments is highly instanced, providing every player or party with an isolated map to freely explore.

Players can initially choose from six available classes to play as (Duelist, Marauder, Ranger, Shadow, Templar, and Witch). Each of these classes are aligned with one or two of the three core attributes, Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence. The final class, the Scion, can be unlocked by freeing her near the end of Act 3 on Normal difficulty, and is aligned with all three attributes. The different classes are not restricted from investing into skills not aligned with their core attributes, but will have easier access to skills that are aligned with their core attributes. Items are randomly generated from a wide variety of basic types and endowed with special properties and gem sockets. They come in different rarities with increasingly powerful properties. This makes a large part of gameplay dedicated to finding well-balanced and synergistic equipment. Skill gems can be placed in gem sockets of armor and weapons, giving them an active skill. As the character advances and levels up, the equipped skill gems also gain experience, allowing the skills themselves to be levelled up and increase in potency.

Andrew Hussie is the creator of MS Paint Adventures, a collection of webcomics that includes Homestuck, as well as of several other webcomics, books, and videos.

Career

The most popular of Hussie's works is Homestuck, a webcomic which tells the story of a group of four kids who play a computer game called Sburb and inadvertently cause the end of the world.

Homestuck was on the reading list of Nick Mathewson, creator of Tor, and one of Foreign Policy magazine's top 100 global thinkers of 2012.Homestuck was also cited as evidence that the "recent rejuvenation of adventure games has legs."

Homestuck has been compared to Ulysses because of the complex and densely worded storytelling the series often utilizes.

Personal life

Despite his popularity, Hussie has managed to maintain quite a bit of secrecy regarding his personal life. His exact age is not generally known. References to dates made in his Blogspot blog and Formspring account suggest that he was born in 1979. He currently lives in western Massachusetts.
