Remington MSR

The Modular Sniper Rifle, or MSR, is a bolt-action sniper rifle recently developed and produced by Remington Arms for the United States Army. It was introduced in 2009, and was designed to meet specific United States Army and USSOCOM Precision Sniper Rifle requirements. The MSR won the PSR competition, and is called the Remington Mk 21 Precision Sniper Rifle in U.S. military service.

History

On 7 March 2013, MSR was declared the winner of the Precision Sniper Rifle competition. Remington announced that the MSR had won on March 8, and it was publicly confirmed on March 9. This was followed by a $79.7 million contract for 5,150 rifles with suppressors, along with 4,696,800 rounds of ammunition to be supplied over the next ten years. The contract was awarded on 12 September 2013. Remington Defense produces the sniper rifles and utilizes two other companies for other system components, with Barnes Bullets for ammunition and Advanced Armament Corporation for muzzle brakes and suppressors; all three companies are subsidiaries of Freedom Group Incorporated.

Sniper rifle

In military and law enforcement terminology, a special application sniper rifle is a crew service, man-portable, high precision, shoulder-fired rifle used to ensure more accurate placement of bullets at longer ranges than other small arms. It is a common misconception that any scoped rifle is a sniper rifle, and while certain long guns are more suited for the application than others, it is the act of using a firearm weapon strategically as a sniper qualified-specialist that designates it as such.

A typical sniper rifle is built for optimal levels of accuracy, fitted with a telescopic sight and chambered for a military centerfire cartridge. The term is often used in the media to describe any type of accurized firearm fitted with a telescopic sight that is employed against human targets, although "sniping rifle" or "sniper's rifle" is the technically correct grammatical term for such a rifle.

The military role of a sniper (a term derived from the snipe, a bird which was difficult to hunt and shoot) dates back to the turn of the 18th century, but the true sniper rifle is a much more recent development. Advances in technology, specifically that of telescopic sights and more accurate manufacturing, allowed armies to equip specially trained soldiers with rifles that enable them to deliver precise shots over greater distances than regular infantry weapons. The sniper rifle itself could be based on a standard rifle: it's hard to define a sniper rifle by the fire modes as some latest designed sniper rifles are semi-automatic fire, for example the M110; however, when fitted with a telescopic sight, it becomes a sniper rifle.

Milk (Boston band)

Milk is an American indie rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, formed in 2010. The band currently consists of Matt Brady (lead vocals, guitar), Luke Savoca (bass), Sam Taber (piano), and Harold Lucas Weatherby (drums). The group formed while they were attending Boston University.

History

Name

The origin of the bands name has been a sort of urban legend in its own right. Even the members admit to "rarely [having] the appropriate answer." As lead singer/guitarist Matt Brady explains:

Formation (2009-2012)

In 2009, Matt and Jesse met when they were living on the same floor of Warren Towers freshman year while at Boston University. During their freshman year they occasionally played together, but nothing substantial. It was not until 2010, their sophomore year, when they seriously started jamming together after hours in empty classrooms in the College of Arts and Sciences building. During the winter of 2011 the two were looking for roommates to move off campus for that fall. A mutual friend introduced them to Sam Taber, a fellow musician. He soon after started jamming with them when their practice space moved outdoors to the BU Beach on Fridays during the spring of 2011. The trio was set to play their first show on April 22, 2011 at BU's East Campus Block Party, but due to "inclimate weather." During the fall of 2011 the trio starting writing music that would eventually be the beginning of Milk. On December 7, the trio took up the name Jame Gumb, after the fictional character Buffalo Bill in the novel The Silence of the Lambs.
