'David Bowie is' has opened at the V&A; to an extraordinary public and critical reception. To get an understanding of how David Bowie has become among the most influential pop stars of his generation, we sought insights from musician Thurston Moore, artist Jeremy Deller, music journalist Simon Price, dedicated Bowie fan Ziggy Jacobs and artist Daphne Guinness. Between them they trace Bowie's career from the 1960s, and take a close look at his approaches to the creation of music, image and performance.
A tribute to the late David Bowie, remaking the 1985 music video 'Dancing in the Street', accompanied by Mick Jagger.
David Bowie - "Heroes" - French TV “Remaster” - 1977 “Heroes” was originally released as a single in September 1977 and was then subsequently a track on David Bowie’s “Heroes” album, released in October 1977. The “Heroes” material was remarkably quickly recorded (usually in one take) and mixed in August 1977. Then the album and the single were released equally swiftly, in September and October respectively. During those two months, Bowie undertook a short promotional tour, recording TV shows, where he performed “Heroes”. During the same period, Bowie also shot the Stanley Dorfman directed, “Heroes” video. The recordings were: UK - The Marc Show – September 7th UK - Bing Crosby's Merrie Olde Christmas TV Special – September 11th UK “Heroes” video shoot - September 25th Italy – Odeon...
I was asked to come up with visuals for a Bowie cover band. There were many possibilities, but none more fascinating than going to the city where he wrote and recorded some of his best work. I shot 1600 photos in two days. The ones represented here are not necessarily the best one. They were chosen because they tell a story of the great city. This film was inspired by David Bowie, Christiane F. and the unbelievable history that can be sensed on every street corner in Berlin. The Berlin Wall features here. It is now a tourist attraction. Let's hope that will be the destiny of all tool of suppression. Shot in Berlin, Germany in July 2013. Music: Sense of Doubt From the David Bowie album "Heroes" Video by Villi Asgeirsson
No video existed, so I cut one from the movie. This was a tough one since the version in the film is radically different from the .mp3 I possessed. David Bowie – Arena Rock – BBC TV – 1978 This is an enjoyable and intelligently made David Bowie BBC TV feature from 1978. The show was recorded and broadcast during the 1978 Isolar II World Tour, and produced by Bowie’s old mate Alan Yentob. It features an interview that covers Bowie’s changing musical perspective, his feelings about the tour and the Just A Gigolo movie. Also featured are live tracks and Bowie and Brian Eno’s instrumental from the “Heroes” album, Neuköln, set to a visual collage of contemporary Germany. Excerpts from the interview have been used in the BBC documentaries, Five Years and The Last Five Years, and in the Bowie Is exhibition. I have also used excerpts in some of my videos, including my last ’78 offering, What In The World – Live 1978: https://www.youtube...

B-MOVIE - LUST & SOUND IN WEST BERLIN is a documentary about music, art and chaos in the Wild West Berlin of the 1980s: The walled-in city which became the creative melting pot for a special kind of sub and pop culture, attracting ingenious dilettantes and world famous celebrities alike. However, before the iron curtain would fall, artists and communards, squatters and hedonists of all kinds would enjoy Berlins unconventional lifestyle. It was not about long-term commercial success, but about living for the moment - the kick - the here and now. With mostly unreleased TV and film footage, photos and original interviews, B-MOVIE tells the story of life in the divided city, a cultural interzone in which everything and anything seemed possible in a place unlike anywhere else in Europe.

Recorded on 23 April 1979 in London for ITV's 'Kenny Everett VIdeo Show'. Bowie performs to a newly recorded version of the song. Check out his white nail polish. This was shown on a TV tribute to Bowie earlier this year. I've cropped out the channel logos but otherwise left it untouched. For the sake of completion, I've also added the skit Bowie and Everett perform after the song finishes. This is from a different source and the video quality isn't as good - but still very watchable. Enjoy.

"I'm very drunk in this" David Bowie told Russell Harty in 1975 referring to his Soul Train TV appearance. "I was very nervous so I had a couple of drinks, which I never do and I really shouldn't have. It's lovely. It's very funny." Harty: "Does it show?" Bowie: "Oh yes!" This clip was shown as part of a TV tribute night to Bowie earlier this year. Although the show was shot on videotape, this looks to be a film transfer of the clip. The source videotape would be better quality and have more accurate colour, but this version still has lots of detail. I've slowed the clip down to the correct speed, fixed the aspect ratio and added a higher quality version of the audio. I hope you like it.

“It was a very smooth collaboration. His fantasy took place inside my work.” Artist Tony Oursler talks about his David Bowie music video 'Where Are We Now' which was published on Bowie's 66th birthday. 'Where Are We Now' quickly went to number one in the iTunes charts in 17 countries and has been viewed more than 3,5 million times on YouTube alone. The video was shot at Oursler's studio in Manhatten, and is full of references to Bowie's past. “Moving forwards over decades, certain things are lost, but certain things are retained.” This is the basic idea of the video, as Oursler explains it. He adds how their “anti-rock video” was based on David Bowies ideas, and was shot within a strict deadline. At the core of the video is a conjoined rag doll with two faces projected onto it: a “myste...

I reworked the audio and uploaded again. This is purely the product of my imagination - what it would be like to have these two giant talents performing together. I've used a range of videos taken of Adam Lambert performing live, provided by fans, along with some pieces of early visuals of Bowie and mashed them up to depict Adam singing a duet of 'Fame' with David Bowie. I've remixed a studio recording of Bowie's Fame with several audio's of Adam singing Fame to create the impression of them performing together. Bowie's original track mostly runs behind the live band and Adam's vocals from his live performances. I do not claim any rights over these audio and visual materials and am not intending to breach any copyrights. My aim is to provide a "fantasy" only and to combine the powerful...

More Queen on DVD: http://adf.ly/aGNvM "This remix is very close to the final album version. The bass lines seem to be a bit more prominent in the mix and the overall sound is a little less muddy. Freddie singing "that's okay!" has been removed right before Bowie sings, "it's the terror of knowing..." It is unknown who did this remix. It is rumored that this is actually an old mix from around the Hot Space time period". Info taken from www.QueenVault.com This video is a new mix between the Wembley version (12/7/86), the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert version at the same stadium in 1992, and the now old video made by DoRo for Under Pressure (Rah Mix) in 1999. http://adf.ly/YhsMw
