Barbad

Barbad (Persian: بربد‎‎) or Barbad the Jahromi (Persian: باربد جهرمی‎‎ / باربد / باربذ) was a Persian musician of the Sassanid era, who lived during the rule of Khosrau II, 590 to 628.

Etymology

The name is the Arabicized pronunciation of the Persian name Pahlbod, which is most probably how he was called in his own day.

Life

In most sources, Jahrom a small city south of Shiraz in the Pars province is mentioned as his birthplace, but in some sources he is mentioned as "Marvi" (meaning from Marv). Barbad was the most famous and skilled court musician of the Sassanid Empire of Persia. Barbad is remembered in much documents and has been named as a remarkably high skilled musician of his time. He has been credited to have given an organisation of musical system consisting of seven "Royal modes" named Xosrovani (Persian: سرود خسروانى‎‎), thirty derivative modes named lahn, and 360 melodies named dastan. These numbers are in accordance with Sassanid's calendar of number of days in a week, month, and year. His musical theories based on which these modal system was based are not known, however the writers of later period have left a list of these modes and melodies. These names include some of epic forms such as kin-e Iraj (lit. the Vengeance of Iraj), kin-e siavash (lit. the Vengeance of Siavash), and Taxt-e Ardashir (lit. the Throne of Ardashir) and some connected with the glories of Sassanid royal court such as Bagh-e shirin (lit the garden of Shirin), Bagh-e Shahryar (lit. the Sovereign's Garden), and haft Ganj (lit. the seven treasures). There are also some of a descriptive nature like roshan cheragh (lit. bright lights).

Raj Chakraborty

Raj Chakraborty (Bengali: রাজ চক্রবর্তী born 1975) is an Indian film director and actor based in Tollywood. A person from middle-class family background, he was born in Halisahar, West Bengal. He graduated from Rishi Bankim Chandra Colleges, Naihati. He is one of the most successful filmmakers in Tollywood. He is also currently the most profitable director in Tollywood. Before directing his debut film, he was busy in Bengali TV, Zee Bangla's famous laughter show Mirakkel and the dance program Dance Bangla Dance judged by Mithun Chakraborty and hosted by Tathoi and Aritra. Mirakkel was hosted by Mir. Now he is busy in directing Star Jalsha's laughter program I Laugh You, assisting mega serial-maker Arindam Dey. He went solo with the telefilm Noder Chaand after assisting Dey for a couple of years. He has made 18 telefilms since. Raj's biggest small screen venture was with the hit comedy show Mirakkel that airs on Zee Bangla.

Biography

Raj Chakraborty was born 21 February 1975 in Halisahar, a small town in West Bengal. He belonged to a lower-middle-class family of five members. He has two sisters who are married and settled. His father, Shree Krishnashankar Chakraborty, worked at Rishi Bankim Chandra Colleges. His mother Smt. Leela Chakraborty has been a homemaker and according to Raj, she is the one who has been his inspiration, his critic, his fear, his pride and the heart of the family.

Mohammed Rafi

Mohammed Rafi (24 December 1924 – 31 July 1980) was an Indian playback singer and one of the most popular singers of the Hindi film industry. Rafi was notable for his versatility, his songs ranged from classical numbers to patriotic songs, sad lamentations to highly romantic numbers, qawwalis to ghazals and bhajans. He was known for his ability to mould his voice to the persona of the actor lip-synching the song on screen in the movie. Between 1950 and 1970, Rafi was the most sought after singer in the Hindi film industry. He received six Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. In 1967, he was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India.

Rafi is primarily noted for his songs in Hindi, over which he had a strong command. He sang in other Indian languages including Assamese, Konkani, Bhojpuri, Odia, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, Magahi, Maithili and Urdu. Apart from Indian languages, he also sang songs in English, Farsi, Arabic, Creole, and Dutch.

Anju Panta

Anju Panta (Nepali: अन्जु पन्त) is a Nepali ghazals and playback singer. Having lent her voice to popular numbers like the title song of Ma Timi Bina Marihaalchhu, Bhun bhun bolyo bhamara of Saput, Dil yo mero dil in Kismat, and Sustari sustari mannma for Darr, Anju has sung for 18 films and more than 100 Nepali melodious songs both in duets and solos. Her ghazal Na birse timilai na paye timilai (Nepali: न बिर्सें तिमीलाई न पाएँ तिमीलाई) is considered one of the best song of her career.

Personal life

In the year 2002 she got married to Manoj Raj Siwakoti. Manoj is also very popular modern and classical singer of Nepal. They have a daughter too. Currently they are separated. After divorce Anju Panta has changed her religion from Hindu to Christianity.

Hindu Song controversy

She was widely criticized on Nepali social media after the news published on online newspapers on Sep 5, 2014 saying that she refused to sing a festival greeting song because there was mention of Hindu deities in the lyrics. Later she refused the allegation saying she did that because she was sick. She has recently converted to Christianity from Hinduism.

Film

The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.
