Sir Thomas Daniel "Tom" Courtenay (/ˈkɔːrtni/; born 25 February 1937) is an English actor who came to prominence in the early 1960s with a succession of films, including The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962), Billy Liar (1963), and Doctor Zhivago (1965). Since the mid-1960s, he has been known primarily for his work in the theatre, although he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for the film adaptation of The Dresser (1983), which he had performed on the West End and on Broadway. He received a knighthood in February 2001 for his service to cinema and theatre.
Courtenay was born in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, the son of Annie Eliza (née Quest) and Thomas Henry Courtenay, a boat painter. He attended Kingston High School and studied drama at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London.
Courtenay made his stage debut in 1960 with the Old Vic theatre company at the Lyceum, Edinburgh, before taking over from Albert Finney in the title role of Billy Liar at the Cambridge Theatre in 1961. In 1963, he played that same title role in the film version, directed by John Schlesinger. He said of Albert Finney, "We both have the same problem, overcoming the flat harsh speech of the North."
A year is the orbital period of the Earth moving in its orbit around the Sun. Due to the Earth's axial tilt, the course of a year sees the passing of the seasons, marked by changes in weather, the hours of daylight, and consequently vegetation and fertility. In temperate and subpolar regions, generally four seasons are recognized: spring, summer, autumn and winter. In seasonal tropical and subtropical regions, the wet (rainy or monsoon) season and the dry season are generally recognized.
A calendar year is an approximation of the Earth's orbital period in a given calendar. The Gregorian, or modern, calendar, presents the calendar year to be either a common year of 365 days or a leap year of 366 days, as does the Julian calendar; see below. The average year length across the complete leap cycle (400 years) of the Gregorian calendar is 365.2425 days. The ISO standard ISO 80000-3, Annex C, supports the symbol "a" (for Latin annus) to represent a year of either 365 or 366 days. In English, the abbreviations "y" and "yr" are used.
Andrew Haigh (/heɪɡ/; born 7 March 1973) is an English film director, screenwriter and producer.
Haigh was born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. His father worked as a salesman for a drinks company, and his mother was a housewife. After his parents separated, he attended a boarding school. He read History at Newcastle University.
Haigh worked as an assistant editor on films such as Gladiator and Black Hawk Down before debuting as a writer/director with the short film Oil. In 2009 he directed his first feature-length film, Greek Pete, which debuted at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. The film is set in London and centers on male prostitution, chronicling a year in the life of rent-boy Pete. Greek Pete won the Artistic Achievement Award at Outfest in 2009.
Haigh's second feature, the highly acclaimed romantic drama Weekend about a 48-hour relationship between two men (played by Tom Cullen and Chris New), premiered on 11 March 2011 at the SXSW Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award for Emerging Visions. The film played in many other festivals around the world, and went on to collect many more awards including the Grand Jury Award for Outstanding International Narrative Feature at L.A. Outfest and London Film Critics' Circle award for Breakthrough British Filmmaker.

This is the 100th video on my YouTube channel. And 2017 is my 45th year in aikido. So, this is a cavalcade of clips through the years. Oh, time sure flies! I was 18 when I started to practice aikido, and I was quite fanatic about it from the beginning. I even dreamed about practicing aikido. Now, I’m 63, still doing aikido and being just as fascinated by it as when I started. I sure have changed through the years, and so has my aikido. But when editing this video compilation, it seems to me that much is the same. You be the judge, but there are recurring ingredients in my practice. And one thing I know: my aim remains the same. The magic of it. For more about aikido, visit my website: http://www.stenudd.com/aikido/ My aikido books: https://www.amazon.com/Aikido-Principles-Concepts-Pea...

Join us for a drivers-eye view as we journey through the beautiful Purbeck countryside in real-time, and experience the best seat in the house on the journey from Swanage to Wareham and back. The last British Rail train ran to Corfe Castle and Swanage in January 1972. Shortly after, the line was closed and the tracks were ripped up, leaving only a three-mile stub from the main line to Furzebrook for clay and later Wytch Farm for oil. Few people thought that passenger trains from Swanage and Corfe Castle would ever return to Wareham, but 45 years later the towns have been reconnected. The first public train from Swanage to Wareham ran again on Tuesday 13th June 2017, departing at 10:23am. The service was top and tailed by Class 33 "Crompton" No. 33012 / D6515 "Lt Jenny Lewis RN" which h...

A powerful record of the Eameses' famed design space at 901 Washington Blvd. in Venice, CA. It was here that the groundbreaking design team developed furniture, made films, created architecture, produced exhibitions and much more - work that continues to shape our world and the way we see it. The film also chronicles the process of closing the workshop of 45 years. As the musical tower developed by Charles and Ray plays its cascade of music, the camera roams, using the office itself as a prism through which viewers can observe their lives and their work. The film offers viewers a last chance to visit the shop and celebrate its joyous texture and aesthetic. 901 is a wonderful complement to the Eames films and a whirlwind introduction to the Eames legacy. Film by Eames Demetrios.

What is Amtrak...? For by now 45 years, officials and railfans have tried to find an answer. True is, Amtrak has been the only remaining very long distance passenger train service in the US. By the end of the 1960s, all major railroads had tried to dispose of their passenger services, which only generated capital losses. Yet, the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) regulated rail services and had to approve proposals by the railroads to abandon their services. Congress decided that this burden was life-threatening to the entire industry and a deal was struck: A national passenger service was initiated in 1971 and any railroad that allowed passenger trains of this newly founded federal company (which later was named Amtrak) to run on their tracks was permitted to give up their own loss-mak...

Where the earth shows its bones of wind-broken stone
And the sea and the sky are one
I'm caught out of time, my blood sings with wine
And I'm running naked in the sun
There's God in the trees, I'm weak in the knees
And the sky is a painful blue
I'd like to look around, but Honey, all I see is you.
The summer city lights will soften the night
Til you'd think that the air is clear
And I'm sitting with friends, where forty-five cents
Will buy another glass of beer
He's got something to say, but I'm so far away
That I don't know who I'm talking to
Cause you just walked in the door, and Honey, all I see is you
And I just want to hold you closer than I've ever held anyone before
You say you've been twice a wife and you're through with life
Ah, but Honey, what the hell's it for?
After twenty-three years you'd think I could find
A way to let you know somehow
That I want to see your smiling face forty-five years from now.
So alone in the lights on stage every night
I've been reaching out to find a friend
Who knows all the words, sings so she's heard
And knows how all the stories end
Maybe after the show she'll ask me to go
Home with her for a drink or two
Now her smile lights her eyes, but Honey, all I see is you
And I just want to hold you closer than I've ever held anyone before
You say you've been twice a wife and you're through with life
Ah, but Honey, what the hell's it for?
After twenty-three years you'd think I could find
A way to let you know somehow
That I want to see your smiling face forty-five years from now.
And I just want to hold you closer than I've ever held anyone before
You say you've been twice a wife and you're through with life
Ah, but Honey, what the hell's it for?
After twenty-three years you'd think I could find
A way to let you know somehow
