A portrait of the United Kingdom's proud ocean liners RMS Queen Mary and RMS Queen Elizabeth, QUEENS OF THE SEAS traces the story of their construction, their vital service during WWII, and the early post-war resumption of passenger service. Majestic in their lines, enormous in size, beautifully equipped and swift, the sister ships were not only the pride of the British maritime fleet, but the envy of the world. During the war their luxury suites were converted for carrying troops, a role which they performed beautifully. As the film demonstrates, tens of thousands of servicemen were moved during the war on the decks of these hulking sister ships, and in some cases their presence proved vital to victory. How they were converted, and how they served, is part of the story of this magnificent film.

Nice L/S of the Queen Mary liner coming into dock at Southampton for her twice yearly overhaul; three men in coats and flat caps stand on the deck of a boat moving out in the foreground; M/Ss of tugs going out to meet QM, then of tugs alongside the QM, drawing her closer to the dock. M/Ss of QM being guided into the King George dry dock with hawsers extended to dock.
C/Us of the side of the ship as we see a flag flying and an officer giving instructions; M/Ss of several men hooking a hawser over a bollard on the dock; some men are seen getting into smaller boats with cleaning equipment and baling out water. M/Ss of the flying bridge of QM and the Captain there giving instructions; the QM in the dock; the side and front funnel of the ship with men cleaning on the rigging.
Low angle M/S showing bow of QM, tilt down to show she is in dry dock, with two tiny (in comparison) men walking along the bottom of the dock. Commentator says "Only now does one get an impression of her immenseness, while (in contrast) the insignificance of man is emphasised by the fact that the concrete floor on which they're standing is 25 ft thick!" RMS Queen Mary
RMS Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (known as Cunard-White Star Line when the vessel entered service). Built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland, Queen Mary along with her running mate, the RMS Queen Elizabeth, were built as part of Cunard's planned two-ship weekly express service between Southampton, Cherbourg, and New York City. The two ships were a British response to the superliners built by German and French companies in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Queen Mary was the flagship of the Cunard Line from May 1936 until October 1946 when she was replaced in that role by Queen Elizabeth.
Queen Mary sailed on her maiden voyage on 27 May 1936 and captured the Blue Riband in August of that year; she lost the title to SS Normandie in 1937 and recaptured it in 1938, holding it until 1952 when she was beaten by the new SS United States. With the outbreak of World War II, she was converted into a troopship and ferried Allied soldiers for the duration of the war.

Queen Mary At Long Beach
This is a short video I made after installing Aerosoft's new U.S. Cities Los Angeles for FSX. It features the retired ocean liner R.M.S. Queen Mary in her new role as a hotel and tourist attraction at Long Beach, California. The scenery is from SimWare, who also developed Antarctica-X, an excellent package. As you will see, this L.A. scenery is quite spectacular, although framerates can be impacted by the high density of model objects in certain areas of the city. I hope you enjoy this short excursion around the Long Beach dock area in the FSX Bell 206B helicopter and I trust that the accompanying sound-track from the seventies brings back good memories, as it does for me. This is a short video I made after installing Aerosoft's new U.S. Cities Los Angeles for FSX. It features the retired ocean liner R.M.S. Queen Mary in her new role as a hotel and tourist attraction at Long Beach, California.
The scenery is from SimWare, who also developed Antarctica-X, an excellent package. As you
will see, this L.A. scenery is quite spectacular, although framerates can be impacted by the
high density of model objects in certain areas of the city.
I hope you enjoy this short excursion around the Long Beach dock area in the FSX Bell 206B
helicopter and I trust that the accompanying sound-track from the seventies brings back good
memories, as it does for me. Thanks for watching.

M/Ss of QM being guided into the King George dry dock with hawsers extended to dock.
C/Us of the side of the ship as we see a flag flying and an officer giving instructions; M/Ss of several men hooking a hawser over a bollard on the dock; some men are seen getting into smaller boats with cleaning equipment and baling out water. M/Ss of the flying bridge of QM and the Captain there giving instructions; the QM in the dock; the side and front funnel of the ship with men cleaning on the rigging.
Low angle M/S showing bow of QM, tilt down to show she is in dry dock, with two tiny (in comparison) men walking along the bottom of the dock. Commentator says "Only now does one get an impression of her immenseness, while (in contrast) the insignificance of man is emphasised by the fact that the concrete floor on which they're standing is 25 ft thick!" This is a short video I made after installing Aerosoft's new U.S. Cities Los Angeles for FSX. It features the retired ocean liner R.M.S. Queen Mary in her new role as a hotel and tourist attraction at Long Beach, California.
The scenery is from SimWare, who also developed Antarctica-X, an excellent package. As you
will see, this L.A. scenery is quite spectacular, although framerates can be impacted by the
high density of model objects in certain areas of the city.
I hope you enjoy this short excursion around the Long Beach dock area in the FSX Bell 206B
helicopter and I trust that the accompanying sound-track from the seventies brings back good
memories, as it does for me. Thanks for watching.
